It was the 50th anniversary of Doune hillclimb at the weekend and i really wanted to take part in the event but my 106 hillclimb car has no engine/gearbox fitted so the only other option was my E320 daily driver. The event was live streamed on You Tube and the car provided much entertainment to the commentators and fellow competitors alike. Not alot of room! A few vid clips from the weekend... T1. T2. And some of live streaming action of my 2 timed runs with great commentary. Skip to 2h2m39s for my car, its not doing it automatically. Skip to 6h6m for my car...

Fantastic fantastic stuff. I'm going to move this to general so more people can see. Didn't know Doune did live streams, it is the way forward for hillclimbing I think, show more people what it is about

Awesome! I try to get along to Doune every year but have been floored with a chest infection for the past week unfortunately.
I also hadn't realised they're doing live streams now, will check them out when I have a chance.

How the hell did you thread that through there at speed? Very impressive.

Love Doune.
My dads place is about 5 miles away and we used to go all the time.
The tunnel section is just insane.
Lots of trees to help people concentrate too.

So how did the Merc times compared to your 106? I can imagine that the traction control/ ESP could be a little bit intruding.

A good question... My PB in the Merc was 58.62, my PB in the 106 is 47.44. I switched off the ESP stuff but i don't think it fully switches off, i had the yellow triangle flashing away at some corners on the hill. A little bit of oversteer at the top of east brae on my 2nd timed run... (courtesy of J B Buchan Photography)

10 seconds, that is a big difference. It shows that lightweight benefits in more than 1 way.
Mercedes do have a dyno mode which disables ESP and traction, but also ABS. And even then I think you still loose waiting for the kickdowns.

An old auto box is never ideal on a hillclimb...

I see you trying to maximize driving time for the entrance cost.

I was marshalling on the sat, very impressive through the trees. Should hopefully be this sat too. I think a Smart car is probably one of the only things you could spin right round through there!

I see you trying to maximize driving time for the entrance cost. You may be correct there, i really have no idea what sort of time it'll put in. I was marshalling on the sat, very impressive through the trees. Should hopefully be this sat too. I think a Smart car is probably one of the only things you could spin right round through there! Thanks, not alot of room in the E class... and thanks for marshalling. Lets hope i don't do any spinning or any other scary stuff at the weekend.
