Once painted and geo set I will report back if driver is happier. Just noticed I didn't complete this task from a few posts north of here. Pleased to report that with the rack rebuilt, centred in the chassis and located to minimise bump steer, that we have success. What looked right when we had finished, works right in operation. No squealing, far better turn it and no nervousness in a straight line. He now just needs to drive it more.

Very interesting. How much did you move the rack in the end, and in what direction? I've heard the Spitfire/Herald/GT6 setup isn't great for bump steer or ackerman, but not really delved into where you need to move it to.

Keep in mind that this car uses Sierra uprights so the geometry will differ considerably. There were multiple issues with the rack - but the main problem was that the inner rack was offset and the track rods slightly different lengths. We raised the rack over an inch to correct the bump steer.

Just caught up on this for the first time in a while, which is remiss of me, and I had been keeping up with acquisition of race car etc on your other threads! I'm not normally one for all things fibreglass, but Darkspeed you really do have some properly interesting projects and I keep finding myself tempted! Going to go catch up on the Strato's thread now as I haven't been in that for ~6 months or so!

Cheers, 75swb - Not sure you will find much going on with the Strato's as I cannot remember the last time I did any proper work on it. Every time I promise to do something I get an email or a telephone call and all the good intentions I have evaporate. For the past two months most of my time has been spent messing about with G15's. Hopefully I can get on to it soon.

Fired up Autocad for the second time in order to try and get some brackets done for the G27 rear suspension. Managed to find a way of drawing that was logical to me and did version "A" of the bracket Printed it off 1:1 and when checked against what I was doing I could see an error So started again. Not exactly a full start again but a quick save as and modify had it sorted Getting more used to the functionality now so should prove useful when drawing up parts for the other projects.

You still need to set the drawing arc resolution to 20,000 to get rid of those lumpy circles

Spent today working on the G27 at my mates place. Finally managed to get the rear suspension mounts on the car followed by the wishbones and coil-overs. Its now sitting pretty on all four wheels. Forgot the camera so you will just have to take my word for it actually happening.
Next job is to start getting some paint on the chassis.

Very nice. I like the blend of the two different types of CAD Any ideas how autocad compares to freecad? I've only tried the latter as it's the only one of the two that will install on my work computer, but if autocad is much better I might shell out for a new laptop...

Yep - to draw it out in one you still have to design it…..
I was using Libre CAD but for some reason the way I use it with throwing construction lines here there and everywhere it used to freeze if I then panned to a different view. I thought it was my old laptop not having a good enough processor or video card but even with a much better machine it still played up. As I had Autocad from work I set that up but it has taken a bit for me to get the hang of it in a way that suits the way approach a drawing. None of the tutorials on YT helped much.
How it compares to FreeCAD I could not say - I was going to give that a go but went with ACAD.

Got a picture As well as getting some paint on the chassis, now that the wheels and suspension are on the body work can get dropped on so that I can begin to sort out the rear wheel arches.

Running out of steam now updating these threads and its depressing seeing how little they have progressed in 12 months.
For this one - FFS I really need to build that bloody engine.

After far too long it has finally come to the stage of building this engine up so I have started to take it apart! I need to start here with some loctite and lock washers on the windage tray bolts before working my way up. Dragging this thread up from the depths has also reminded me I need to make some new shocker brackets for the rear and order some spacers.

Oh dear this is really not progressing as it should be. I can however report that there has been a little movement insofar as the rear brake calipers are off getting refurbed due to me sending the Stratos calipers off and adding these to the box.
A good thing to also report on is that as I have found somewhere local to blast the Stratos chassis this one can go there as well. So progress should be swift when it eventually gains traction.

A bit of work on the V8. I bolted the windage tray and the oil pick-up on, and dropped the sump on. Thats it on the bottom ! - Forgot the photo. I then fixed the side mount to the engine so I can work on both ends Fitted the spigot bearing and filled it all with oil - it had been soaked before but had been sitting in a box for a few years. Tried the flywheel and clutch on for size - not bolted the flywheel on as I need to warm it up a little as its a very close fit on the crank and it will only get fully fitted and torqued up after the heads are on. Also need to decide on the best way to drop a cap onto this.

Welded a top on the cut down dizzy and tested with Acetone for any leaks. Once confirmed that the weld was tight the Acetone was warmed up to evaporate and the dizzy filled with oil to soak the felts - which I had taken great pains not to get overheated - and also soak the oilite bushes. Cover will come off now for a final clean up prior to final fitting.

Nice to be able to follow a "modern" build up of a Rover V8. Shockingly I realise that my last RV8 build was back in 1992! 30 years has gone by very quickly....
