If only it was that simple .....
Mounting method has been decided I just need to get the cut angles drawn
Directly above the shock is a hole between two 1" members which is where the original shock mount bracket was with 17.5" coilovers - these are now 15" coilovers
The 1" steel chassis tubes directly above the shock position have sleeved mounting holes for the roll cage and any steel in that location means difficulty with mounting the cage feet fasteners
The coilover mount needs to be strong enough to transmit the necessary forces into the chassis whilst avoiding all the other mounts, linkages and ARB location points that are not shown and still provide clear access for the diff to drop through.

Clever! Must try and remember that for when I actually have a car it'll be useful for

Still looking in and admiring your work! On the Gemini bodywork is that a later model Spridget windscreen and surround? I seem to remember seeing an early Sprite 9 stud screen on one of your early pictures on this thread?

I'm sorry about this and others can say what they like but I still think that you are setting the chassis up for a failure in the future only having those two mountings, when the suspension is under compression it will use the top mount as a pivot point and over time it will rip through the bottom hole and pivot about the top hole and fail. It needs a third mounting at the top say 150 mm above the current top mount and when the plates are re made it should have a 15mm lip folded into the longest side so it cannot distort under compression. I know you know what you’re doing Darkspeed but in this case it will fail as there is no triangulation in the mountings just a shearing force.

Not a problem Pete, if I ever get it finished and it fails, and if this board is still going, I will post it on here how you told me so. It's a light car and remember it's a mount for a coilover a device specifically designed to manage forces being fed into the chassis. The static force on that upper mount bolt is around 1800N - An M10 8.8 shank in single shear is rated 51000N - the one M10 is clamping a 15mm tube in that bracket FT double shear. Full bump compression is 1800+3750 = 5500N. Keep in mind that the bracket assembly is connected to the coilover that is connected on its lower end to a bracket on a 32mm diameter 2mm wall tube wishbone! I know where my money would be on what is going to fail in that system. Still looking in and admiring your work! On the Gemini bodywork is that a later model Spridget windscreen and surround? I seem to remember seeing an early Sprite 9 stud screen on one of your early pictures on this thread? Cheers Phil - Yep they all use Spridget screens - I was looking at early screen at a car show as they are a more delicate frame than the heavier later ones. Once you remove a few bolts and flanges here and there drill a few holes they look okay. Would have been on the Gemini thread.

Managed a bit of progress on The 27 today. Tubes drilled for sleeves. The sleeves, left over from G15 chassis work have since been reduced in width and at some point tomorrow I will get them welded in. Also need to get a couple of pairs of brackets drawn up and made.

Started early before things go oppressively hot and two welds are as far as I got before the battery in the mask gave up the ghost and started flashing full arc at me. Also looks like I only have about 20 bar left of the 300 I started with so about 400 litres or 45 mins of welding time - Time for some alloy welding practice to end the bottle after I finish this little job.

Been messing about on another G27. Could go into a long diatribe about Ackermann annoying squealing tyres and an unhappy driver and the whys and wherefores but have a list of works instead. Remove old rack mounts and weld in new ones Strip rack and replace:- Rack - Track rods (Longer) - Pinion - Track rod cups - Rod ends - Lock stops. Mixtures of Spitfire, GT6, Dolomite and V8-G27 parts! Purchase solid rack mounts. Drill new mount holes. Wind from lock to look and it looks like we have symmetrical steering angles left and right - previously found to have an inherent asymmetry Once painted and geo set I will report back if driver is happier.

Another great thread and good to see the Wem Ginetta chassis improvements applied to the G27. I find one project at a time taxing so I'm totally in awe of your energy in keeping all yours moving forward together.

Cheers John, I am not making the sort of progress I would like to be at the moment for a many different reasons. I am having a lot of one step forward 40 steps back right now. Just have to keep plodding on.

Once painted and geo set I will report back if driver is happier. Just noticed I didn't complete this task from a few posts north of here. Pleased to report that with the rack rebuilt, centred in the chassis and located to minimise bump steer, that we have success. What looked right when we had finished , works right in operation. No squealing, far better turn it and no nervousness in a straight line. He now just needs to drive it more.
