Hopefully with a bit of momentum it will not be another 12 months before the next stage.... I had managed to snap off one of the manifold dowel pins which was a consequence of taking so long to build it and having it apart a dozen times. A bit of tickling with the TIG and out it came. I will replace the roll pins used with some stainless rod. Discovered I had a dowel missing from the front cover so that scuppered the fitting of that until I get another Checked the stubby dizzy oil drive fitment - all good. Dizzy clamp and valley gasket clamps went in the ultrasonic for a clean prior to a coat of paint - front pulley also due a extra bit of cleaning prior to some satin black as well - also need to order up a new water pump - old one has succumbed to a little to much corrosion on the inlet.

I presume the manifold dowell pin is to give precise location after matching the ports - manifold to head?

Yep - a lot of work went into the ports and intake manifolds matching and they were doweled for the final works - I have to try and trim the valley gasket to also match with it all and get it aligned and drilled for the pins.

whilst having chat with accord83 today after turning the Strato's around with the lad, the postie arrived with small padded envelope I had been waiting for that contained the missing front dowel for the RV8 front cover. It also contained a little note from my potty mate Mr B. Which means I can get on with sticking the front cover on. Need to add to the list of things to paint - RV8 front pulley and get the final coat of paint on the valley clamps.

Test fitted the front cover and water pump after sorting through all the bolts. - Still need to order a new pump and will probably buy a stainless steel bolt kit at the same time. Then gave the front pulley a good clean. Probably going to be a bit quiet on the projects for a week as my neighbours Hyundai Amica failed its MOT on some welding. She's a wonderful neighbour considering what she puts up with with having me next door - I am pretty lucky she is big Ferrari fan and a avid F1 watcher. Stands there grinning with fingers in ears when the Strato's is exercising its lungs. The MOT station in town had told her the Amica was beyond economical repair (a slightly harsh but correct assessment) so she was pretty distraught about what she was going to do. After me and the lad had a look at it and told her it could be put right with a bit of effort and we could sort it she burst out crying bless her.

Darkspeed, I’ve seen the smile on your neighbours face when she sees the Stratos, it’s from the heart.

A lovely story Andrew and you have shown great kindness to the lady next door. One saying that is so true is that the joy is in the giving and it is so nice when it works both ways. She is lucky to have you as a neighbour and vice versa.

Caught me out - no other reason to post this other than some superb cars used as an excuse to bump my G27 thread.

Oh - And we put the neighbours car through another MOT which picked up an advisory for the other side. Half expected, which will likely have me doing more welding on it this summer... As its an 07 perhaps I should start a thread on it If revisiting this threads has provided anything positive, its that I kept my word and have focused my attention on the Strato's.....

Thanks for that movie - so many memories of reading about them in the American drag mags at the time. Classic drag racing action. "Heart like a Wheel" is another one to watch.

I am slightly puzzled by the tread pattern on those tyres are they "handed"?

I will chuck this in here as I did look and touch the the G27 whilst carrying out this little task for my mate. Started with Which is a nice narrow body Westfield SE running a warm X-Flow - He had wanted one since I had mine, a Low Line narrow SE with a Zetec squeezed under the bonnet. Nice car as this is it looked a bit bare without a roll over bar. Tube-bender over in Rugby provided the hoop to our measurements plus a length of tube for a diagonal all in 44mm CDS - we could have gone with 38mm but figured we would go chunky for the main hoop and think about 38mm for the back stays when we do them. Fettled it here and there to get it looking right and agreeing with the levels and squares before tacking it up and slapping some big welds on it. After that it was chopping and shaping the diagonal to get a nice fit for welding It gives the car a more purposeful look with a bit of additional safety - obviously it needs the back stays doing but that needs a bit of extra work sorting the chassis brackets. Told you the G27 featured.....

Dropped the 3.9 engine and box from the Gemini into the G27 ready for getting it home. .......... Watching the skies now for a dry day over a weekend. So about that watching the bloody skies comment - I think we all know how well that's gone...... Unless the rain turns up...... it's booked on its return trip on the 7th May - 6 months Better turn the heat up on getting the Gemini rolling because I want this thing in the garage not the barn.
