Aside from my fiat 126 project I recently got this nice little e30 316 project, its fitted with a weber manual choke carb but is otherwise really original- first up we gave it the obligatory clean- ive purchased new badges, numberplates, carpets and coach line for it to tidy up the manky trim and I plan to do a little cleaning up on the couple of rust scabs on the paint work and I sent the wheels off for a refurb - the paintwork isnt perfect but short of a complete repaint (which seems like a shame) its staying as it is and being enjoyed as a nice little retro for now... more updates as I do "stuff"

Can't go wrong with an E30! I've had 4 of these, used by the family as daily runners. One thing that does uplift the appearance of these pfl cars is to replace the windscreen locking strips with the later black ones.

Yep I must say I’d like to replace them do you know where I can get some? Being from the other side of the world I would hesitate to advise you! Ebay.co.uk brings up a number of hits for new ones that seem a bit pricey. Ones from a wrecked car are fine so long as the correct tool is used for removal and application. If you can find some second-hand ones, best to get some new clips as being made of aluminium they are virtually impossible to remove without bending.

After getting the wheels on with new tyres Ive been doing little bits to the beemer the last few days, I have prepped all the paintwork and got round to repainting the scabby rear valance- and in the mean time despite already having too many vehicles its been joined by a 1966 NSU quickly moped- next up I'm going finish the paintwork an redo the coachline then its up for sale as I have another project coming...

Nice to see one of these being kept pretty much stock. I love a wild E30 build as much as anyone but this has some class to it.
Bookmarked!

Paintwork finished and it’s with a heavy heart it’s sold- upside its to my stepson so I still get to drive it and he’s determined to get it perfect with a little help from me! So this is where it’s at for now and there’s more to come!

So it was only a matter of time and a little steering and my stepson (hereafter alex) has got himself a nice set of e30 bbs to replace the bottle tops and only £150 with tyres and centres- and they will be very minty ater a repaint and some new centre caps!

I like that! A mate just picked up a minty early 318. And it too responded to a bunch of cleaning etc. Keep the "stuff" coming.

I used to have one very similiar. I made up an adaptor plate for the manifold and slapped on an old Weber DGAS (38?) carb that came off a scrap Capri, what a difference! It almost made it feel like a 318is. I would imagine a more sensible 32/36DGAV would be a great upgrade and still retain some fuel ecomomy.

Oh, another good tip. Pop the steering wheel centre off, see that hole in the middle of the steering column? That's right through to the other end. You will be amazed how much road noise comes through it, you'll see if you take it for a drive and put your finger over it. Roll up an earplug or a blob of blu-tack and stick it in.

Thanks Ritchie I’ll give that a look, a little test fit today and they look well sadly the tyres are shot so they will come off and we will get them powder coated before some new rubber and hopefully a ride height adjustment....
