I've loved these things since someone threw me the keys to one some time in the early 90s and sent me out to give it a thrashing. They might not be rapid by modern standards but the willing engine and lovely chassis made that not matter in the slightest.
I've tried to find a decent one a few times without success but one day.....

So I haven’t done much in the last month tbh. Mainly been sorting issues with the daily. But today I thought I’d book it in for an MOT on Thursday to find out what’s what with it! One job I knew I needed to do was fit a new cv boot on the n/s outer, I’ve never used one of the stretch cones before so set to work! Think I managed to use every expletive under the sun before I got to this stage. But I managed to get it on a buttoned up before I lost the light. Just! All sorted! Hope I don’t need to do one of them for a while!

Looks a really clean mk2! Tornado red always looks awesome when it's been looked after too! The recaros seats you had in it... Do you still have them? And would you be interested in selling them?

Those boot replacements are a cluster! been there and tried several different solutions...all involved curse words!

Lube is the key, good dosing of fairy liquid Yeah I figured that in the end, and a towel to keep your hands from slipping. Went on quickly after that.

It’s far from clean but very original! Well apart from the things I’ve done. Unfortunately I sold the other recaros a few weeks back.

So the old girl failed the MOT but didn’t do too bad! The failure points were rear wheel bearings which I kinda knew about but hoped they were ok. Guess not! So this afternoon I’ve replaced both rear wheel bearings discs and pads. So all should be good now. To be fair the old ones looked pretty new and I could probably have just tightened them up a smidge to take out the play but better safe than sorry. And I know know that they are all back together and new! The other little issues are fog light! Thought I’d fixed this! And side lights. Hoping I can sort them this evening or in the morning for a retest tomorrow.

Not too bad a fail list, hopefully easy enough fix for the lights too!

So the fog light is fixed, along with number plate lights. Going to try and sort the side lights this morning and take it for it’s retest!

So I set to sorting the side lights with a bit of help from a member from the VW Golf MK2 Owners over txt. I recently installed a relay headlight loom to improve the power and in turn brightness of the headlights. In doing this the headlights came on on the sidelight switch, to get around this I had to unplug this guy. The dim dip resistor. That sorted the issue and now the headlights came on in the correct switch position. All I had to do was install some side lights as they were missing?? So I took the headlights out, bought some holders from Halfords and set about making them fit into the headlight bowls. Tested them before reassembly And refitted everything Then most importantly I took it back for its retest and another 12 months on the road! So happy!!!

Glad to hear it's passed! My mk2 was the same, didn't have any sidelights, vw heritage actually sell the holders pretty cheap too!

Another job ticked off the list this evening, which I’ve been planning to do for about 5 months haha. The gear change has been very sloppy in the since I got it. So I upgraded the linkages for a combo of mk3 weighted linkage and solid with metal socket linkages with new bushes all round. The difference is like night and day. I am so happy! You can just about see all the bits in this picture. Took off the car cleaned and reassembled. It sounds easy lol. I also managed to get hold of an alignment tool a few months back and this meant all gears selected smoothly first time! Then I gave the bay a quick wd40 clean haha This was the difference between a new and old selector lever thingymabobby Well worth the change.
