Looking pretty decent for all the work that's gone into it though. I've previously found that the 'bulkhead' mount on the front of the football is best dealt with by sawing it off, and adding slicing through the footwell from the inside in line with where the mount should be. Make your new mount so that it sticks through the slots you've cut, bolt it up, then fold over what's sticking through and weld in. Much easier than trying to do it upside down in the engine bay when it's got an engine in the way. I think I'll see if I can see the spot welds from the inside. If I can then it should make things a lot easier. That's what i did on mine, drilled the welds out and plugged the repair section in, access around the pedals is difficult though.

*Situation Report* SWMBO is away until Thursday. The new owner of the Disco is collecting it on Thursday. I have the week off work. I have until Thursday to work on the RR, unencumbered by life. Dramatic music Cue unrelated montage Or not Anyway I have acquired some items to aid the eventual attainment of an MOT. 1 heated windscreen An aluminium upper tailgate And a set of good used tyres Looking forward to getting that little lot fitted. Need to be shown how to use the tyre changing machine and the balancer and I'm waiting on a windscreen seal and some upper tailgate hinge screws. Also got myself some welding gas and to that end I have finished the LH footwell and filch area And a little repair to the inner wing While the cat is away who is to say I can't steam clean car parts in the sink? Much better! Only got a few hours down the Motor Club today so thats it for now I will try and get a full day in tomorrow Oh and if any of you are watching, Thanks very much to the people who have helped me out with parts. You know who you are

Mid shift update Got up late Then walked the dog So I didn't get down there till 11. Its mainly the dogs fault. It then started snowing and was freezing in the motor club and due to reasons beyond me, all the heater plugs in the building are snipped. maybe they weren't idiot proof enough. So, being an idiot, I decided to fix my cheapo heater fan thing by taking the switch out and bypassing its internal fuse. It still has its plug fuse so it is safe...ish. More importantly it now works and with that and some halogen work lights it was still freezing cold in there. So an hour well spent. I then moved onto the front bodymount. The rust I saw the other day was in fact mostly mud and the hole I saw is actually meant to be there. Its just where the metal is folded in the corners. So having taken that apart I wire brushed it and rust treated. That just needs paint and putting back together. Next up This took a lot more time than it looks LH seatbelt mount Old Vs new A hole And awaiting welding The RH seatbelt mount has already been done and looks to be a reasonable repair, although it needs some seam sealer and underseal. Next up This is the last big rust spot on the car. There are about 4 other minor bits that need doing but the end of the weldathon is in sight. Shall see how much I can get done this evening Cheers

Quick one before I go to bed Seat belt mount welded in. No pic, I forgot The majority of the LH rear sill repairs are done, just needs a easy to make, easy to weld outer panel making up RH footwell all seam sealed and painted as well as sill. Just waitng on the battery tray for that corner of the car to be finished RH boot floor all seam sealed and painted. Need to drill holes for ctr boot floor to be riveted to. Shame I could'nt get all the welding done today but the all the big bits have been tackled now, leaving some minor LH sill repairs and a closer look needed at the LH boot floor rear edge. Then its just a case of wire brushing the boot floor frame and chassis, then painting. Then the whole car needs underseal. Tomorrow is the day before the Land Rover goes to its new owner so I think first thing tomorrow I'll take that out to get jet washed and then I'll clean out the interior so its all ready. Jobs left to do are; -front to rear brake line and across rear axle brake line. Have all the bits needed -Front to rear fuel supply and return lines. Don't have yet, need to measure bore -fit windscreen. waiting on sealant -fit tailgate. waiting on hinge screws -fit tyres. waiting to be shown tyre machine. -fit front wings. waiting on battery tray and then underseal -fit bonnet. windsreen first -relay panel. getting one next week. -wire in radio -recover sheared bolts from rear seat mountings -change fuel filter -change engine oil -change coolant -bleed brakes -re-cover headlining lots still to do then

S’weekends work ! It it ok mechanically ? James Mechanically it looks alright. I think the lad who had it before me did a fair bit. Looks like new discs and pads all round although all covered in surface rust. Coolant hoses look new, new looking ignition leads, cap, rotor arm and spark plugs I'm changing the oil, coolant and brake fluid and putting some "new" tyres on. The only things wrong mechanically I've noticed are some slop in the steering, some play in the power steering pump and the belt tensioners need adjusting. New looking belts though. Bearing in mind though that I havnt driven it any further than onto a trailer yet so who knows what else needs doing I got all the welding done last night but my phone died while taking pics. I'll upload what I've got though

So this is the only pic of the battery tray I managed to get before the phone died. There is a battery tray the other side of this. Promise. LH rear sill repairs done The rest of the LH sill repairs got done. Nothing particularly interesting about that. Also had to do a small repair to the rear of the LH boot floor, which was the last bit of rust on this car. I then went and wire brushed all the boot floor crossmembers to bare metal and also knocked some flakier bits of paint off the chassis. Then doused with bilt hamber rust converter Moved onto the flakey looking fuel lines and after disconnecting at the engine end I discovered that the ends are swaged twice. one at the end of the pipe and another about an inch down and then connected to the engine via rubber hose. Being an injection car, the fuel is at high pressure and I wasn't happy I could reproduce that on the copper line so I've cut the line towards the front of the chassis but after its passed all the exhaust. Its not rusty at this point. I think if I'd just done plain line to the engine then I'd end up with fuel spraying all over the RH exhaust. I'm glad I decided to change this as as soon as I disturbed it slightly it started leaking and when removed it did this Lots of rust treatment, seam sealing and painting got done along side the welding but I've now run out of seam sealant. Need something to go round the centre aluminium boot floor where it meets the steel side boot floor panels and crossmembers. It looked like seam sealer there before but there where some signs of dissimilar metal corrosion. While speaking to the bloke who I bought tyres and windscreen from, who had an excellent and factory looking Discovery 1 pickup, he mentioned that my car, being an '88 should have an aluminium boot floor from the factory so maybe it is original. Apparently 1988 is a weird changeover year for these. They went over to internal hinges in 89, mine has external door hinges but internal bonnet hinges, aluminium boot floor and the seats are fluted which I think was only '88. Possibly has light up indicator and wiper stalks too, not sure yet. And lastly the Discovery went to its new owner today in Holland so good luck to him and the car, I'm sad to see it go. Its probably the best car I've had I didn't get a parting shot but took this yesterday

Got a couple of hours down the motor club tonight. First things first, the windscreen went in and it was an absolute ba***rd! AND I realised that one of the connectors for the heated screen is broken off so only the passenger side of the screen can work. This might find itself getting a crack after its MOT After that I tried to fit the upper rear tailgate I have which turned out to have a sheared bolt in it and also the bolts it has are M6 whereas the old ones where 1/4" UNF. So I need to weld something to the remnants of the sheared bolt and order some countersunk M6 bolts Next on the list was to finish seam sealing the car so LH sill and under footwell done couple of spots on the RH side done Battery tray done And the boot floor got a lick of high zinc primer and some seam seal Next up is to run some new fuel line and brake line. Then I can underseal the thing. I also have a plan for the exhaust

A Range Rover is far too high class for that. A sporting rasp from a tail pipe in the left rear corner is more than sufficient.

The 8mm plastic coated copper pipe used for LPG makes a good fuel line, solder an olive on to form the pipe restraining ridge on the end.
