After been lurking on here for just under 10 years and being a occasional poster, I have finally got my own retro ride. So here it is. 1991 Ford Fiesta popular plus with 1.1cc with 4 speed gear With me reaching 40 this year and wanting my own retro Ford for years, i decided that this was the time to get one. Quick look on Ebay for Mk 1 and Mk 2 Fiesta’s reminded me why i hadn’t bought one before. So having owned one during the late 90’s and loved it, I thought Mk 3. Bingo. It had to be affordable as it had to be wife friendly. . Bidded on a couple and lost out, then this appeared. 1 owner from new with 55k on the clock and 12 months MOT. So plan was set to go to Bristol from North Devon on the Sunday before August Bank Holiday. My office for the trip back . Browsing Ebay during the week, i noticed something that would be great for the fiesta. And it could be collected on the way up. So these were purchased. Ebay pictures. After keeping off the M5 and keeping to the back roads, we arrive before the seller. Quick look around, paid the balance and set off for the nearest fuel station. Which ended up being 20 miles away. Here is my back up crew, in our Yaris. Cooling down at Tiverton after a high speed run down the M5 Home at last, though this is the cars temporary home. Here is the car meeting my daily driver. So what have i bought. A very clean and tidy car that can be used and improved on . The shell is extremely clean with no sign of rust/corrosion. The paint needs a polish and has damage on the n/s front door. Looks like it hit a gate post or garage. I have arranged for it to go on a 2 poster and have some sort of rustproofing to protected it. The engine has the top end rattle, (expected it) and a leaky rocker cover gasket. Otherwise pulls very well. Brakeswork ok, though the service revealed that it needs shoes and cylinders on the rear. The 4 speed gearbox works well. Doesn’t like 3 to 2 when cold and is the first 4 speed i have owned since my mk2 fiesta 19 years ago. Overall i am happy with it. And the family, including the wife, are passionate about it. Though only the 3 younger ones can come along. The other 2 plus grandsons have to follow in their cars.

yes! love the mk3 fiesta, and when i was a boy (about 6 years old) i drove one of those around a field at the the local fair! one of my first memories, it looked exactly like that, on a J plate too! these cars are getting very rare and will no doubt shoot up in price soon, so many people remember them too. excellent choice of ride!!!

That's a nice little survivor. The Mk3 seems almost totally forgotten at the moment, with Mk4s still providing daily transport and Mk1 and 2 being collectible. The poor old Mk3 gets overlooked as a result. This one isn't even that pink, which is amazing, they always seemed to get that top-down fade after the first ten years or so.

I saw a Mk3 the other month. But before there I'd only seen another one many months ago which was an oddity ; it was an F-reg ; it must have been one of the very first. I've seen more Mk1s and 2s about mind you near me. That looks very clean for a Mk3.

Looks a very nice straight car.
The Ka was based on the same platform, for a cheap simple upgrade a ka 1.3 and 5 speed drop straight in plenty of rusty donors around for beer money, the later 1.6 sport ka uses the same block so even that should not be much of a challenge.

Being an iB5 gearbox the Ka gearchange along with a Puma gear selector would make for a lovely shifting combination.
However, KA gearboxes are available in two flavours ; PAS and non-PAS. The latter has taller gearing.

Thanks for the comments, nice to see it is appreciated. That's a nice little survivor. I agree, the mk3 is in no mans land at present, though I think the prices could rise on the descent ones. The photos don’t show how pink it looks. As it will require some touch up with the paint, I will combine the two and have paint sorted.

That is something I am considering as I feel it will be within the spirit of the car, yet still retain that Valencia feeling.

On the morning after I had a good look around the car and start to have a list of jobs that the car requires. So far the list looked like this Interior door handles as they are marked. Back adjuster on the driver seat had broken. This I knew as I had to ask for a set of slip joints to bring the car home, comfortably. Incorrect seat positioning results in me having back pain. Rocker gasket was leaking. I noticed that the radio wasn’t working. This slightly annoyed me as I had raided my cassette collection to listen to on the way back from Bristol. Looking around my tool chest, I realised that my head unit removal tools had gone missing. So a quick trip to Halfords, 34 mile round trip, resulted in the head unit being removed. To find that the head unit wasn’t connected. Brilliant. Connected the head unit up to the wiring resulted in.......... nothing. 2 weeks later, eBay bid of £25, resulted in this. Before I took the car to it’s storage area, I thought I would test fit ish, the alloys. I had bought the correct alloy nuts before picking up the car and the alloys. They looked great, so time to sort out fitment. Next stage was a service as I have no record of it being done.

It was clean underneath 2 years ago. Hadn’t looked underneath since. It has only done 3,000 miles since. It lives in a dry garage and rarely used during the winter. Thanks for the comment, one of these was always on the radar since my first back in 1999.

So the new year started myself buying parts for the fiesta. First up is a centre console. I ended up buying 2 and acquired 1. The gap between the ashtray and the floor always bugged me in a Mk3, so a centre console was always a must. This one is black and had a blanking plug for the boot popper. This one wasn’t used, so the hunt continued. Once I decided that I was to keep the tape head unit, I was by this stage starting to scan eBay for parts and accessories for the fiesta. One of my early finds was this tape holder. A little on the expensive side, but fitted the gap very well. It is a genuine ford part. Need to sort the order of photos as I wanted this at the end. I also got a little focused on replacing/sourcing standard parts. This was one of them. Since I purchased the car I disliked this bare nut showing. Getting a replacement was difficult as everyone I contacted didn’t have one or would sent a front one. I did acquire this part eventually, moe on that later in the thread. Next was a RS kit. Again eBay was where I found this set. It is great that it is red, however thick and chipped paint make a respray more likely. I have been undecided on fitting this kit. In a earlier part of this thread, I posted a photo of the kit fitted. I must admit, it does look good. As the time of writing I am have not fitted it, however watch this space! Another cheap eBay buy. Like most of the parts available, I never knew that these parts were available. So finding them became a slight addiction. As you will see throughout the thread. Anyway here we have spotlight brackets. Two parts and until I fitted them, I struggled to see how they go together. However they fitted well and it showed how flexible the front panel was. Here is a clue as to what I do for a living. A set of he-man dual controls for a mk3 fiesta. Never seen a set before or afterwards. Haven’t got a clue as to fit them and they probably never will. Here was the XR2i console I pick up. Grey to match the interior, however it was slightly damaged. I loosely fitted this into the car for over a year before finally fitting the brackets and making it permanent. That is what I purchased in early 2018. It was another 18 months before I started to fit items to the car.

All these parts look like bolt on type of things. The good thing is when you get sick of it you can take them of again and the car is as it was before. No damage done!
