When carrying extra passengers in the back, the back end sat down. Now I suspect that we are looking at original shock and springs on the back. Possibly the fronts. This wouldn’t normally be a problem if a, I was on my own and b, didn’t drive at night. Yep, the headlights were pointing too high. and kept getting flashed by oncoming vehicles. So what can I do? Summer 2019 these come up for sale. They are Euro spec head lights with built in electric adjusters. Brilliant. I can adjust the head lights from the drivers seat. So they were purchased and sat in the garage. Ignore the B and C covers in the photo. Theses are the sellers photos and I have a set ready to fit from the ghia I scrapped. So Christmas 2019 once the paint had been corrected, I started to look at the lights. The most obvious thing is that they are LHD spec, so beam pattern is different. Luckily I found someone on FB who had 2 original wheel trims ( now got 5 very tidy trims) and a set of RHD head light lenses. Cue one cold winters evening, heating up the LHD headlights to remove the lenses and replace with the RHD lenses. Once done I was ready to fit. Here is a quick photo of where I fitted the adjuster. It is roughly in the same position as it would be on a LHD car. Great thing about using OEM stuff is that every thing is plug and play. So once the headlights were fitted it was time to wire everything up. The loom went in nicely and finished up by the radio/ cigarette lighter area. It took me a few minutes to realise that they are powered by the.... cigarette lighter illumination. What I thought would be the weakest power supply turns out to be the power feed. Once fitted, all worked fine. I did have a issue with the drivers side. It was showing a lower beam than the nearside. I tired everything, but to no avail. Cue a couple months later, during the first lockdown down, I removed the upper grill. The headlights were on and I watched in amazement, as the headlights move out about 3 mm. Enough to get both light patterns about equal. In the above photos you will notice that I have a set of headlight protectors. Theses were on eBay for quite a while. I made a offer which was accepted and they were mine. They were cheap compared to the others. You may see the reason in one of the photos.

I love what you are doing to this little gem. Paint seems to be responding well 👍 Thank you. I was quite surprised how the paint came out. I get the feeling that the car hardly had any wax or polish to it., I was warned not over do it, as some of the paint is thin. Hence doing it by hand. It has had some work done on both rear arches and the n/s needed to be redone. There is more to come as first lockdown allowed me to crack on with this car and pretty much got it to stage where only the mechanicals need updating.

Leading up to Christmas 2019 I made a couple of more purchases ready to fit to the car. First up was a set of mud flaps for the front of the car. These I remember buying for my old grey fiesta back in 2000. The rear had a set already fitted from new. Unfortunately they were pass their best and was up for renewal. Next up was a set of “lock stops” for the steering rack. When I fitted the RS alloys, it went for it’s first Mot with me. One of the advisories was slight damage to the front wheels. These were caused by the track rod ends catching the alloys on full lock. Plus you can hear the grinding while on full lock. So I avoided using full lock unless necessary. I know there was a solution and it was in the RS accessories catalogue. Steering limiter kit. The 90 section of the part number would suggest that it is motorsport part as opposed to normal part. And a 89 would normally mean a mk3 fiesta part. I would imagine that these would be fitted to Fiesta RS turbo and possibly XR2i. So what does a steering limiter kit look like. These were found, via FB marketplace, quite locally. Mind you looking at the instructions, they do look very interesting to fit. Last modification was to upgrade the main key to Ghia spec. I had the touch section. So one key blank, a battery and a couple of pounds to the local Timspons man,I had a working key with torch. Small , but nice touch.

Now we come to the first lockdown. Personally, for me, it was a much needed break from work. Having become self employed in 2016, and working 7 days a week pretty much since, being forced to stop was required. I was knackered, burnt out, tired, depressed and had axienty. Mental health had come in play for last couple of years. The temporary accommodation came with a garage 50 years away. So I bought the fiesta from it’s normal garage and put it into the temporary garage. Working on this car helped me to cope with lockdown and relax. I enjoy working on the car and bought back the passion for working on it. It also allowed me to get the jobs done that I would never have the chance to do. If lockdown had not happen, the progress would probably be stop here. Here is a insight into my career, taken in 2017 not long after I purchased the car and kept in it’s first garage. So let’s start with something easy and simple. Back in late 2019 I purchased a set of Ford OEM roof bars for a mk3 fiesta. Great. Only problem was that is I would need to remove or modified the roof gutter covers. So I left them sat in the garage. Then just as we entered the lockdown, I had the following being sent to me in the post. And here they are being fitted to car. They have stayed on the car since. It has divided opinions on being fitted. Definitely a marmite thing. Have I used them. Yes I have, though only once. With the shogun off the road, I had to used the only one of a fleet of 6 that had roof bars. So late last year it brought home the Christmas tree.

Thank you. Thieve is more to come. Look forward to it. No upgrades on.mine, still trying to find out how water is getting into the passenger footwell! Check the heater. My old mk3 did this when I owned it back in 1999. I ended up replacing the heater and ripping out the sound deafening. If not that, check the bottom of the windscreen. BTW all these upgrades are options available from Ford or from a scrapped Ghia.

I really liked this in it’s pop plus povo spec! The cassette holder in the dash was a good touch, like period touches like that, but if it was mine, I wouldn’t be putting the bodykit and alloy wheels on......the joy of this not being my car!

Thank you and totally get where you are coming from. The wheels were going to be XR2I alloys, until I saw a set of RS alloys close by. I picked them up on the way to purchase the fiesta. The kit. Well when I fitted it, I did think I had just gone over the top. However I am beginning to like the look and it has grown on me. Thankfully considering the cost. But that is for another post. I still was still busy on FB and eBay purchasing more.

I did think of the heater, but assume I would be losing coolant which I'm not. I'll have a closer look at the screen though. Anyway, I'll stop hijacking your thread

The next job was something that I had been planning for a while and was never sure that I had the time to do it. As it could be a time consuming job. When I purchased the scrap ghia, I managed to salvage all of the part to convert to central locking, electric windows and boot popper. This consisted of the following Complete loom from the fuse box to the boot. Electric window motors and regulators. Central looking motors for all for 4 doors. Motor and wiring connectors for the boot. Central console with switches and brackets Plus small consumables from the ghia. Here is everything laid out in the garage. The console was in the car at the time. Ignore the leaves. Here is a short explanation of what I did to convert the car. I did it over 3 days during April last year. Took my time and enjoyed the sun. First removed all the door interior door panels. Remove the head unit. The speakers are on same loom. Remove the loom from the doors, head unit, fuse box and offside rear of the car. Remove the speakers looms from the front doors. Remove the front window regulators Removed all the lock from each door. Remove the loom inside the boot. I also removed the front door speakers as I was changing them. So refitting was the reversal of removing! Not quite I started on each door. They all had looms that connect at the door pillar. Nice and easy twist connectors. The front door received replacement locks with central locking motor incorporated, replacement windows regulators with motor incorporated and new speakers fitted with adapters, due to increased size. The rear doors received just replacement looks with the motors fitted. The boot lid had the replacement loom, along with the boot popper fitted. Once this was done I laid out loom down both sides. N/S as far as the rear passenger door. O/S went down to the boot area. Once that was done, the fuse box needed to be connected to the loom. As the car is a lower spec model, the connector is missing. So this was added to the fuse box, and a change of one relay, resulted in the loom connected. Last item was to fit the brackets, ready to fit the centre console. Once done it worked. Well I did blow one fuse at the start, however that was quickly solved. I didn’t take any pictures, as I just carried on with the task in hand. So here is couple of photos related to the work carried out. To hide the hole leave over from the window handle, I had theses. They are european side indicator blanks. Alas we can’t really fit them here as the MOT man does get a little upset if I fit them. However they fit nicely in the hole. Box of parts required 1 Boxes of parts required2 Here is the indicator blanks and centre console fitted. I found a very useful guide on a website, sadly no longer running. This proved invaluable throughout this section of the project..

Great results on the seats - did you wet vac the covers? 🙂 Believe or not, we put all the covers into the washing machine and pit them on a standard wash. I was a little cornered that they could shirk, however no problems at all. I will try and get some more photos to show the finished result front and rear. On this lockdown, we are back home and the car is at its normal garage. That is about 20 mins away.
