That little notch in the rear window where it meets the C-pillar on the BMW 2002; If you now go outside and find the nearest BMW I can guarantee that that little detail will be there, I like it when car designers use little styling features from previous models that most people would never even notice. I believe it's called the ' Hofmeister Kink'. Weirdly - the Mk1 Golf has it too. A few examples from Ford; Anglia / Ka front grill/indicators; Omg that's genius - never noticed that before - brilliant spot!

Honda CRV picnic table wheel well cover. Plus a side opening rear door you can't bash your head on but with a flip up glass to get stuff in and out when you can't / don't want to use the door- i.e. Full of family holiday stuff. Such easy to live with things that give a simple pleasure. Miss that car

Vertical handbrake on the CRV, mere inches from the steering wheel. Bliss to use.

Today the split tailgate of the Range Rover came into its own providing a handy bench seat with sun shade whilst enduring a dog show (not my cup of tea).

Overdrive on older RWD 4 pot turbo Volvo's. Changing into 5th gear is hard work, so flicking a switch to engage OD in 4th was wonderfully lazy.

I spotted this lovely 1955 Thunderbird at Tatton Park American car show (full event thread coming soon) and thought a few parts of it belong here. The turned aluminium or stainless trim that goes across the dashboard and into the doors. Those ribbed (Ooh er!) thuderbird logo valve covers. It's an engine, a piece of machinery. There's no need for it to look good but somebody at Ford wanted this car to look special from every viewpoint even if only enthusiasts who look at engines would see it. they probably knew that hot rodders and customisers would want a set for their lesser model Fords too.

I know they're aftermarket but loved the tail lights on this custom Ford pop (I think) I saw yesterday...

I love an engine that you can look at, unlike all the modern stuff where all you get to look at is a plastic cover.

The floor mounted mushroom brake 'pedal' in the Citroen DS. And the U shaped semi-automatic shifter on top of the steering column.

Ford headlights that you can remove to change a bulb by undoing 2 clips. Joy, simple design that makes life easy.

Pug 205 headlamps were like that, so simple.
Pug 307 headlamps, however, are not.
You have to remove the front bumper to get at 1 single bolt beneath the headlamp, which means the undertray has to come off and the arch liners have to come out, which means jacking up and removing both front wheels. For 1 poxy bolt!!!
Maybe this should be in the other thread!!

Saw this yesterday - Fiat Multipla Door handles. They have this little rubber padded bit on the rear ends of the handle that extends beyond the metal on the door, so if you open it near a wall or another car at the supermarket it doesn't let the paintwork get grazed.

Was that before or after you used the screwdriver to break in?

They have this little rubber padded bit on the rear ends of the handle that extends beyond the metal on the door, so if you open it near a wall or another car at the supermarket it doesn't let the paintwork get grazed. This was actually a factory recall after Fiat received so many complaints from other drivers that Multipla owners were damaging their vehicles due to not being able to get in or out of a Multipla with their eyes open, for fear of catching a glance of the car they had paid actual money for. True story.
