Ok, we've heard all about the bits that we don't like on cars so here's the antidote. The design details that you really like. Those bits that make the difference between a utilitarian bland-mobile and something a bit more special. Standard and modified cars. I'll start with Citroen DS rear indicators. I shouldn't like this because it's got that lights not all together in one cluster thing, but this particular one looks so good you've got to forgive them. 1965 Buick Riviera headlights My favourite hidden headlights bcause they look good closed but don't look clumsy or out of place when they're open.

It's a bit modern but the 'strakes' on the top of BMW E46 door mirrors.

The very subtle kick up at the back of the Princess roof. It's difficult to photograph.

it would be quicker to point out the bits I didn't like on either...and that's very little.

Not retro and probably prone to failure in high mileage, poorly maintained vehicles but I like the manual mode on some modern automatics. I love how that sequential shift makes it easy to slam it down through the gears like a motorcycle (or a proper car with a manual box) and get engine braking on a big downhill. Having driven a few old sh1tters over the years I'm never keen to trust the brakes more than I absolutely need to.

In my opinion one of the prettiest cars from any angle, the shape of the rear quarters and the little kick up of the boot lid

The smell of the inside of almost anything BMC. Magnettes, Farinas etc. There are others that come close, but not quite. Also a clean engine bay. Theres nothing more dissapointing than looking around a nice clean car, only to find a shed of an engine bay. Id have to agree with 'that' roofline too.

The little dash light on my Corolla. It's quite dim, and not good at illuminating the dash. But if you flip it open, you get a stream of light right at your lap, great for reading maps in de the dark. I don't know if it's unique or not, but it really makes me smile.
