Love this, you never seize to amaze me with your 9000, proper car cared for properly and driven right too! Good job on the wheels too! Got to be 1 of the best black Aero's out there hands down, or in fact any colour!
Cheers Luca, very kind of you to say. It's an easy car to own really and not one that I would ever have imagined I would have come so far with all those years ago when I bought it.
Funny that you've got an RS4 as well, I always look at RS4 (and RS2) Avants as they're the only thing I could see me replacing this with. Be great to read a thread on that if you had one anywhere.

They are indeed! Been quite lucky with mine, never missed a beat in the 3 plus years I've owned it, I have thought about selling but never actually bring myself to it. Funny you mention gear ratio's too, I've been using my Golf as a daily (2.0 16v ABF) and that has a short ration MK2 ACD GTI box, which means 5th gear 3,000rpm is approx 63mph!!!! About 2 gears shorter at least than the Saab haha. The RS4 I haven't done a thread on, she is in the body shop at the moment having a refresh, so there shouldn't be a blemish when she comes out of hibernation, not that it was that bad to begin with, the thing is they are a bloody headache to work on! But what a car! I have owned her for over 7 years and love how well they are ageing and how green seems to be coming in to fashion abit more now.

This is easily one of my favorite cars on this forum- lovely work done. Thank you very much, really nice of you to say. I have been enormously enjoying the exploits of your Swede too. Such a classy thing. Silly thing to get excited about but I love its dashboard. Cheers Luca, very kind of you to say. Back when I first bought my 900 it had a low ratio gearbox on it and a manual boost controller. The gear ratios were similar to the golf and it went like a stabbed rat. I think I used to struggle to get 200 miles from a tank of petrol whereas it now does over 400 every time with new engine management and a slightly longer 'box. Whilst I am very attached to the 9000 we have started to talk about getting an estate. If I do the RS4 is one that I spend a lot of time looking at. There was a green B5 RS4 for sale a little while ago that had a freshly built engine and lots of nice mods which looked mega. Not sure how much bigger they realistically are inside than a 9000 though. Looking forward to seeing the rebuild pictures of your RS4.

Since the last update the 9000 has mainly been sitting at home doing very little or hanging around at our local Saab specialist having a frustrating ABS fault chased. After lots of going round in circles it turned out one of the new sensors was duff. It now has 3 new ABS sensors. Whilst there it had its annual service with a few high speed stability type things focused on. This meant new track rod ends, adjustment of the additional rear anti roll bar, new n/s driveshaft and inner driver, new bushes across most of the rear (I had done the front end a few years ago) and then a fresh geo set up. Pleased to say it is certainly feeling better for all of that. It has also celebrated a big birthday and another clean MOT too which is always good. 200,000 miles @ 200kmh with 200 miles of fuel: Here it is with some of the other Swedes who don't come out in the winter anymore Most recently the winter wheels and tyres went on as did a ceramic coating on wheels and body work. Currently dealing with a fault whereby the main beam comes on by itself without the ignition. Suspect the big red relay I replaced last year has failed already. Will try another relay soon so that it stops flashing random cars and people whilst parked up. I suppose the nice thing with having owned a car this long is that when someone rings your doorbell to say your headlights are on you know exactly which car it is and why it'll be doing it!

Oh dear. Well, there’s a first for everything* Started fine. Popped round the corner. Went out to start her and no go. Snowing. No coat. No phone. Meant to be starting work in 5 minutes. Great. Had a quick check and all was in order bar the usual priming noise from the fuel pump. Still, at least it happened around the corner. Then I remember the screw in tow hook was no longer so I had track one down and get back to the car ready for the tow driver to scrape the underside of the bumper on his truck. *Actually. Has happened once about ten years ago and it was a fuel pump then too!

Just read the whole thing. What a story this is, it would be a shame if you sold it, must have so many memories that money can't buy. I'm just starting to appreciate the wierdness that is saabs as I just bought my first (albeit a tame one in comparison), a 2008 9-3 aero TTiD

Cheers, glad you enjoyed it. I agree, selling it would be very hard to do. Ideally I'd have enough space to store and add something else but I'm already having to work hard to keep them all stored safely. I don't think I could ever watch someone else driving it away though.
Good luck with your 9-3 and welcome to the fold

Just returned from a 1200 mile trip up to the Highlands of Scotland. The plan was to take one of the 900s but I could not get a bolt for the seat in time to be safe. So at the last hour the 9000, which had not been used for months, was called to action.
I am pleased to report it performed faultlessly managing 516 miles over the first tank of fuel!
Now back home, covered in dirt and dead flies awaiting the next big trip.

Haven't used the 9000 since the run up to Scotland but am hoping to take it for a drive to the Polish lake district soon.
In preparation for this I took it off today to have an additional silencer added to the new system. Whilst the new system is known as a quiet set up I had been finding it a little louder than I wanted between 90-120mph. As the plan is to do the main bit of the journey (870 miles) in one sitting I really want to get it's cruising sound levels down a bit further, aim is mid to late 60's on the db meter. If I can do that I will be very pleased.
Chose a free flowing silencer as I still want it to flow enough to make the power, just with less noise. Got it fitted as far forward as possible to utilise the space available.
Whilst it was up in the air I took the opportunity to fit all new rubber exhaust bushes that I'd ordered from Saabits. Even with new rubber the whole way through I was not happy with the lateral movement of the system. So I got an additional hanger welded on to the car to keep it all in check.
Obligatory 'car in the air' picture:

Long time no update. Last update was August last year when I was getting ready to go to the Polish lake district for a few weeks.
In getting the car ready for several thousand miles abroad I dropped the roof lining and added Dynamat to the roof to further reduce general sound levels.
Also popped some new speakers in the rear to match the new ones in the front.
As I was planning on doing the majority of the trip there and back during the night I wanted to avoid using those stickers you put on the lights and managed to track down some LHD headlight glass in Bristol. They were free which was great with the only caveat being the chap selling them could not post as he was moving house the next day. Fortunately a good friend cycled over to his, got them, packaged them up and then posted them to me a few days before we were due to leave.
Swapping over headlight glass on the 9000 is a pretty easy job and one I would definitely recommend if you're travelling abroad.
Followed by a good clean and we headed for the Autobahns in search of top quality fuel and some nice roads.
We stayed at a flat in the city and a house in the countryside. The house in the countryside was along a two mile dirt track with the most harsh surface ever, felt really guilty driving the 9000 up and down that.
The car performed brilliantly, the new intercooler has made a massive difference and it will now hold boost right past the end of the red for as long as you want it to in 3rd, 4th and 5th. Really nice mod and one I wish I'd done years ago.
There were two seperate issues though, one on the way there and one on the way back.
On the way there we had been travelling with the cruise control on at 120mph for about an hour (the reason I wanted to use the Autobahns at night) when there was suddenly a really loud and constand banging noise. It went away under 70mph and then came back as you went over. We pulled into the next petrol station and discovered that the sunroof rubber had been pulled out and was thrumming away on the roof!
On the way back just as we were leaving Poland to enter Germany the car suddenly stuttered as I tried to accelerate. This was really worrying as we were a very long way from home and had a train to catch. I eased off and she ran fine. Put my foot down and as soon as she came on boost we had the really hard jerkiness again. Pulled over, smelt the DI pack, investigated boost pipes and vac lines which were all fine. Decided to carry on and drove all the way home with no problem at all but at a slower pace than the way out. Upon investigation once back home it turned out the brand new fuel pump was not delivering enough petrol. Put a new one in and it's been fine since. This car seems to love a fuel pump!

Sounds like a great journey, Great tip about the headlights, Really like this car, Nigel Thanks, kind of you to say. It was a lovely trip and reinforced the belief that this car always wants to get me home! Swapping the headlights over I would really reccomend to anyone that plans on driving at night abroad. Makes such a nice difference to have headlights set up right.

Three more trips successfully completed since the last update. The 9000 has now reached its annual mileage limit so will be cleaned and put away this weekend, I'm tempted to store her this winter too so as to protect her from the elements.
In May I drove down to the south of France with just the dog for company, meeting the missus and daughter there. Was a properly lovely drive as I landed on French soil just as the sun was coming up and had some great scenery. Long day in the car, think it was 14 hours overall.
Before the trip had a new CV joint, o/s inner and outer gaitor, replacement ball joint, track rod end and tracking. Also ended up switching over to the winter wheels due to a mishap with the wheel bolts just before I was due to leave.
Massive boot, good air con and cruise control were the heros that day.
Next was a trip for a family holiday to Norfolk. Lots of fun but not much in the car. It looked nice on the beach and got prime parking at the second house we stayed at though. Then this week it took us for a quick break up to Scotland for four days. I was there supporting a friend who is riding his unicycle across Scotland to raise money for Parkinson's UK and MIND. Awesome thing to do. Car was perfect up there, did many many many overtakes and even gave 42mpg on the run back down South.
