Yes, I've SORNed the Benz for the transplant, and I now have an excuse to drive at 25mph in a 40 zone, stay in the middle lane of the motorway and wander all over the white lines as I now drive... a Volvo 940 saloon! ;D Not the most retro car in the world but if I did get something old it'd only turn into another project!! I have been spoilt in the past though as I've driven a 760 V6 which was really nice and powerful - this is a 2.3 so not as much poke, but still a nice big car to wallow around in ;D

I'll give you a week before you've got it slammed over some fat rims though. ;D
And a fortnight before you've got it all measured up for that 350ci Chevy V8 transplant!!! ;D ;D ;D

Well done! You're a man of taste! We have a dark metallic red 940 saloon with the 2.3 engine, full electrically adjusted and heated interior in grey leather, and we just put 16" five spoke T5 alloys on it and it looks , plus it's getting a turbo on it soon from the absolutely abused 940 2 litre turbo we're stripping for spares at the moment, that one would be absolutely saveable I suppose but it's not in good condition at all, it's had some serious bad treatment, as you can expect from a Volvo to get it in that condition! It's actually the ol' man's car, and he's not happy about putting a turbo on it, but I'll convince him, don't you worry! ;D ;D ;D Next thing I want a 960 with the even nicer interior, wide axles, better suspension, and a 3 litre V6 from the top of the line model!

... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

It's alright, because by buying a 960 I'd be liberating a good car from the hands of the capitalists, and by borrowing it from the ol' man every time I could and loading it up with my dodgy red mates and using it to cruise around beating yuppies off the traffic lights (something you can't do with a two seater Imp! ;D ;D) I'd be using for the good of the workers! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

No more project cars, pleeaaase! ;D Just out of interest, what PCD do Volvos have? I'll get some pics uploaded. Fortunately I'm limited in what I can do to the car as it is my dads, but he doesn't drive it any more. He was gonna sell it but I managed to talk him out of it 'til I sort the Benz out (narrowly escaped public transport drudgery! Phew!). The Bimmer is also SORN and might be getting a 335i conversion after my brother read about it in PPC - I wash my hands of this one though, I can't have any more projects!

Are you sure a 316 is a good place to start, though? A 325 wouldn't need nearly so much surgery....massive respect to your bro if he trys it though!!

I think the 940 has a 5x108 PCD, either way you can get the big 16" alloys off the 850 T5 on it and they look great on one if you're interested! ;D ;D

A 325 would've been better, but then again I reckon the 2.5 six pot has plenty of poke anyway. The car they used in the PPC article was a 316i (that started the cogs whirling in his head!). I don't know how he's gonna afford it as he's an impoverished student, and he already has a Mk3 sleeper Escort to finish! However if a 3.5 crops up cheap then I don't think he'd be able to stop himself!!! Then again I wish I'd have spent my student loan on cars instead of baked beans! ;D

Oh yes! A friend at uni had a lhd Swiss market E30 323i / 325i (can't remember which) but other than the badging, it looked just like a poverty spec 316i, complete with the skinny plain steel wheels. He really liked it that way, as it would go sideways so easily, but otherwise didn't attract any attention ;D

As long as there are no Ferrari badges on them, there's no need to deface such a lovely car as a 940 with something so disgusting as a Ferrari reference! As I said, T5 rims are a straight swap and look fantastic, as do cross spoke wheels similar to the BMW ones. Or 960 multispokes.
