Really, really happy that the time thief just does not reside exclusively in my workshop in that case - he / she also appears to be making regular visits to your place too - so do me a huge favour next he / she visits - can you lock him / her in your workshop, barricade the doors & windows and call the local nick to have him / her arrested has I'm well & truly sick of the menace on this Corsair job Or could it be that you are getting visited by the Welsh time thief and I other hand find myself visited by the Southern time thief ? It's not often that it happens. Unless it's panel fitment. I'm usually quite productive, but I lost weeks fitting the front end until I was happy to weld the front wings / valance/ headlamp panels on. It felt like I took them off on and 100'times. As soon as I get some more bits I'll lock the time thief in the shed with the rest of the bl00dy spares.

The interior looks great, good find on the shelf too! Thanks Jim. I love the interior of the mk2 GT. It's the same as the Lotus except for the speedo and rev counter. This one is very tired but will more than do for now. I actually sat in the car, on a seat, with a wheel and pedals for the first time yesterday. I didn't make any noises, but I did have a shake of the steering wheel with a big grin on my face. It's a nice place to be.

The eagle has landed. Yesterday my carbs came back from rebuild and so did the gearbox So this morning I bolted them together and with the aid of Jones Junior (The Elder), we got it in the engine bay without scratching the paint. I then fitted the shiney carbs, but the bit that connects the throttle spindles together is to short on the new manifold. I need to check if the wrong bit has been sent back but if it is correct I'll just weld a bit on for now to get it up and running. I should have checked before sending them for rebuild. All hoses fitted, radiator in, distributor wired to coil, clutch cylinder on, battery in, and exhaust manifold on. Last week I fitted new studs to the head on the exhaust side. I think one of the studs had an m8 bolt cut off and threaded into the head. When I tightened the brass nuts up on the manifold today it felt like the thread stripped on the nut. I wound it off to change the nut, but the stead fell out of the head😩. It will now need a helicoil. Next up throttle linkage. The Cortina as standard has a solid linkage to a down draught twin choke Weber. To get the 40's working I needed to make my own cable linkage. This is not my idea but is a take on another Cortina owners design. The original bracket for the linkage has been turned upside down. To that I've bolted a piece of 5mm Aluminium plate. The standard throttle rod through the bulkhead has had an after market twin throttle linkage bolted to it (blue shiney thing). Two holes drilled through the plate for the inner cables to pass through and the outers to butt up against. Job done. It can all be put back to standard easily too if I decide at a later date. So a quick look at how the car is sitting, it's still a bit high in the back for my liking. And this is still with the 5 wheels in the boot. Still looks cool though.

What have you done for fuses on the wiring loom, did it have any as standard as my Corsair didn't?

I've cut out a bit of curse word, but otherwise the loom is in pretty good condition. Obviously I'll be be quite stringent when I first connect up to the battery.

great progress! The engine compartment looks very nice. I would fit some fuses and to avoid future problems, fit some relays to the headkights, horns, coolant fans ect. This even got my MGB with Lucas components trouble free for more then 10 years Peter

I may do eventually. I'm going to swap all the bulbs for led which should drop the current through the switches a bit.

That's my plan as well but I will be fitting a relay and fuse for the lights and Horn just for safety.
Don't fit an Led as a replacement for the charge light or it won't charge properly already found that one out.

I had heard that too. I did buy a little loom for a fiver that plugged into a headlamp plug and took another live to power the lights so the switch no longer carries the current but I don't want to fit it now that the bay looks original (ish). But a relay is easy enough to fit up the dash.

Carbs are looking lovely - I could hear them in my head when I saw them. A car I always wanted - about 23 years ago I settled for a 4 door with a 1700x flow, 2x40's etc...Still love em.

Little bit more done. Not many pics though. First of went to fit the prop. That's fooled. Gearbox seal want lost 5 mins with that. But I fitted it anyway and will source another. Fitted the gear stick. And also unseized the dog on the started, tested it, painted it and fitted it. No photos of any of that. I must have been "in the zone". But with that fitted I could now make up all the heavy cables. Battery neg to car, battery pos to solenoid, solenoid to starter and engine earth strap. I've not got a tool for crimping the terminals and didn't want to use a chisel (like I normally would 😁), so I'll take them to my brother's as he has one. I've marked the orientation of the terminal so the cables lay as I want them too. The petrol tank needs to be painted gloss black, but I wanted to remove some surface rust and a lot of old petrol residue that covered the tank bottom. So a few days ago I put a 2:1 ratio of white vinegar and bicarb unit then added a few metres of water too. I emptied it today and it's cleaned up quite well. I've still fitted an inline filter just incase. Again not a single photo of this. After leaving a heat fine running whilst pointed in the tank for half an hour it was bone dry so myself and Jones Junior (the younger) jumped in Gweek (the van) to take the tank over my brother's so his painter can hopefully paint it this week. I want it fitted when it goes for the exhaust so they know what to avoid. Anyway when we drive off, one of the fan belts was squealing but stopped after a bit. After dropping of the tank the belt squealed all the way home and suddenly stopped again. But this time it was because one of the belts had snapped and I saw it on the road in the rear mirror. Thinking it could be for the water pump I drive home extra quick before it over heated 😁. In reality I was 200 yards from the drive. The alternator belt had snapped and flipped the other belt on the way out. The design of the adjuster is curse word and hardly puts any tension on the belt. I'll try a shorter belt this time.

I had the petrol tank painted and got it fitted in the boot. On fitting the 51year old rubber hose it split. Lucky it split now when it's empty really. New one is winging its way from the owners club. How come painting a starter motor can break it? I tried it on the battery before and it worked. Connected it to the car and it was a dead short. Pulled it off to find someone had put a steel collar over the insulation block where the pin comes through the back plate when I bolted the wire up it shorted the pin to the case. Removed this and it cranks on the key. 👍. Ive finally had the bonnet back from paint and got it fitted. How come painting a bonnet can make it no longer fit nicely in the hole that was designed to receive it? To be fair before paint I hadn't fitted the 4 rubbers to the wing rails that are there to help locate the bonnet hen closed. I attacked these with the angle grinder and it fits much better now. The eagle eyed amongst you will notice the the headlamp bezels are part painted Matt black. The even more eagle eyed will notice that I've not painted to the same line on both sides. I didn't notice either until someone mentioned it on FB. They are off 2 different spec cars so have different amounts of black on them. I just remasked and painted what I saw. Never mind, a job for next week. Today I went to Longlife in Cardiff to have an exhaust system made. Apart from the back to from hats, boom boom music, only literature being Fast Car Magazine and them having no interest in old cars, they listened to what I wanted and did a bloody good job. I've no idea what it sounds like but I asked for 2", straight through silencers, 2 boxes and quiet. In other news the lights, brake lights, wipers, all now work. Horn works when it feels like it or just gives a ffft. Heater didn't work, then cam on, and then didn't work again, I've got power to the coil, indicators don't work. I'm off for 2 weeks after Sunday so hope to get it running by Sunday 4th for the Owners club Nationals at Stratford. Lots still to do.

If its any consolation to you with regards to the filler pipe connector it would not of lasted long as it's not ethanol resistant for modern fuel as far as I know the Mk2 owners club do a new ethanol resistant pipe to replace it with.
