Hi folks!
I've had my eye on this car for quite some time. It belonged to a lad local to me who has owned it for a couple of years. He eventually lost interest in it and decided to sell. We would quite regularly talk about it in the pub, but never actually got around to sealing the deal. Until a couple of weeks ago, he sent me a text message saying he quite simply wanted rid of it.
The car was starting to look a little tired and although was in really good condition, it was needing a good bit of TLC.
So, I bought it!
Here it is the first week I had it (after a good polish).
The car only had one week of MOT left so I just drove it around for that week to get an idea of what the car was needing.
For a start, the exhaust was burst. The rear silencer had a massive hole in it, so I'll need to get an exhaust sorted for it. The problem is, some parts are becoming really hard to find these days and as I expected, the exhaust is one of them! I can find a middle section no problem but the rear section is proving impossible to find. Shame really, because it has the most awesome tiny, twin, too far apart pipes ever!!!
I guess I'll just need to weld on a universal back box for now.
Other than the exhaust, the car would only really need both outer CV boots replaced in order to get an MOT.
Another thing that bothers me is that the engine pretty much leaks oil from every single seal and gasket on it.
So, I think to myself, if every gasket needs replaced, surely that job would be easier if the engine was out and on a stand. Besides, both drive shafts will need to be popped out anyway in order to do the CV boots, so I'd be halfway there anyway. So...
In the garage we go.
The job that's ahead of me.
Wiring off and radiator/fan removed.
Middle exhaust section off, gearbox drained, drive shafts out.
On it's way.
Out!
The following day I stripped everything off the engine.
I managed to source a head gasket set for a CA18ET engine when I first bought the car as I knew it wouldn't be long until I dug into the guts of it. I couldn't find a bottom end set for said engine, and I really need crank seals, so I took a £9.99 gamble and bought a full engine gasket set for a CA18S engine. Well, it looks like I've hit the jackpot! All of the gaskets and seals look like they'll fit.
More to come soon!!!
