144W LED ?!? That has to be paint meltingly bright. I loved the sound of the Hayabusa cans on mine less harsh. Don't know what they will sound like on the MX5 engine though...

Mine had cannons on years ago, I liked them and the noise when ticking over or tootling around. A bit loud when giving it some beans and a worry if offroad anywhere not strictly legal. It wasnt the noise as much as the uneven note due to unequal length headers. I only changed them because I fancied a vertical exit but being 4 into 1 with equal length headers it doesnt sound great now. Its muffled now too which I'm OK with but it sounds a bit boring.

If you use the same conversions as for Halogen to LED in houses, it works out as about 1000W!! Have to get to the farm when it’s dark and have a look, but yeah it hurt our eyes looking at it, it was chosen as the right size rather than for its output (and it’s cheap and from eBay... so may not last too long anyway) Mine had cannons on years ago, I liked them and the noise when ticking over or tootling around. The cannons look right, which is why we went for them.... if needs be for now, we’ll push some baffles up them to start with did think we could change the cans for supertrapps or bike slips-ons later, that way it’d keep the chug but quiet it down... it won’t be the most efficient system, but it is only a 1300!!

Wonder if SWMBO would notice if I put a light bar like that on her Discovery, she does complain about night vision...

Replaced the wrong hose! Here is a photo (just to get our moneys worth ) And thought I’d see what the light bar is like in the dark Before: After: (Not sure I needed to label them, but it made me chuckle)

Bloody hell, you'll burn the paint off the car in front with that.
On a sensible note, its quite a bit of current draw for the fairly feeble VW dynamo (I think you have a dynamo?), it might be worth considering an alternator if you are adding some toys. The dynamo puts out little at low revs where an alternator can give full output at barely more than tickover.

Not many toys, as we won’t bother with stereo, wipers, heaters, fans, and all the other lights are led also.... but yeah, I think we’ll change it when we start improving... that may change though depending on the state of the regulator (as the alternator doesn’t need this, so if it’s knackered it may make us do it sooner)

Made up some headlight mounts, didn’t just want to screw some angle plates to the side of the nose, so these should (with a little fettling) follow the side of the nose cone, and hopefully look integrated into it, rather than a bolted on afterthought And go something like this, with a triangle underneath to support them, and without my hand Bolted onto here.... And we had a delivery, some front caliper bolts, as we fitted whatever we had, but then don’t know if they were tensile. Also a clutch and a throttle cable kit, Tom chose the colour! So we can work out how easy it will be to get them fitted. Think we can do a tidier job than before!!

does that pedal box have Massey-Ferguson stamped on it anywhere?

I’ll save the handbrake mount for later : Picked the Fug up and brought it home.... bit more fraught than normal as it has the engine in, but the brakes don’t work... oooh and the drive slopes down to the house (and after trailer-gate I am trying not to break anything else ) but managed it with some patience and a chock behind the wheel! We got some multicoloured electrical string! Also a couple more switches, for the light bar and because doomsday switches are cool!! Had forgotten to fit a brake light switch, so got a couple of unions and pressure switches.... don’t know whether we should fit 1 in front, one in back, or to both? Any advise welcomed And after chatting with a mate about fixing panels, he suggested fairing mountings... so got some bolts and cups (gold were cheap and sort of tie in with the yellow.... but will probably be wrong when we paint it eventually) Some actual work tomorrow

What brake mc are you using? Standard beetle ones have ports on the mc for the light switches, one in each circuit iirc.

Just add one to the front circuit - it does most of the work

Had to go to work this morning, moved a couple of cables for customer, this is his pick up Then this afternoon, it was raining and cold.... So we went and set up in the scout hut and bled the brakes Fitted the brake pressure switch It has fluid!! We then chased a few leaks, and realised there are two bleed nipples on the front calipers!! :0 But got there in the end And then brought it home, backing it down the drive was a lot easier! And Tom didn’t hit the van! Tomorrow is supposed to be dry, so we’ll do some fab work hopefully

Bit more done, we welded some tabs and brackets to the frame And then fixed the side panels on, used 6 fixings in each and they seem to be solid. We tweeked theshape of the brackets for the headlights, and welded them up Painted them black for now, I guess they’d probably look tidiest in body colour when we get that far Then we had a hail storm!! Chucked a tarp over the Fug, and moved all the tools We had a weeping hard line, so remade that and fitted it whilst under the tarp. And bled the front brakes again By that time we were running out of time and light, so bolted the bonnet onto the existing brackets, and tried the headlights. One side (the side I templates) is spot on, the other hits the beam, but hadn’t really got time to sort it today, so bolted the lights on and packed up By the time we got up the Farm it was dark, so no video from Tom

Quiet couple of weeks on the Fug, have done a few little bits... Found some front wheels, they are American Racing but look very similar to the Appliance on the back.... like these And got the steering column back, the shaft is solid and is machined to fit inside the bottom of the VW tube, it’s stepped for the pillow block bearing then again for the quick release boss We got it welded up, then painted it Planning on fitting that with the few hours we have on Sunday

Not a huge amount done, but progress is progress.. There was a weep on the brake pressure switch, which hopefully we’ve sorted. We changed the steering column, from this To this Now with a detachable steering wheel Tom did another vlog And we can roll it around without the rope now!!

Next up is the clutch and throttle cables,
Throttle is quite easy, I got a long universal kit that will just fit end to end
but Clutch is trickier because the pedal box is adjustable.... so I can see 2 choices; use the original cable back to a lever, then make up another cable to connect it to the clutch pedal. So it would have a standard cable to a lever and a short cable from the back of the pedal through 180 deb to the lever.
Or just use a new cable from pedal to the lever on the gearbox.
I guess either way I would have a custom cable in there. Am just a bit concerned that the cable has to turn 180 degrees behind the pedal box
(Or maybe suck it up and convert to hydraulic.... but was leaving that until later, if needed)
