it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I'm gonna tow a caravan behind me wherever I go, not for any reason like for carrying things or sleeping in, but because its cool. I'm all for things done just cos they're cool but they arent cool. Cool: Cool: Cool: Cool Points knocked off for purposely putting things on it inside the showground for effect ;D

some roof racks are cool, wood slats etc
but people have took it on themselves to bolt any old rusty pap onto their cars. deluded into thinking that its just roof racks in general that are cool

I like the idea of a roof tent. On second thoughts all my mates would come and rock the car about and wake me up. Bad idea

Mmmm *drool* That is cool because it is a thing of beauty, it is in itself as an object, "asthetically pleasing" That would be pleasant to look at on a wall A sh1te 70/80`s plastic coated thin steel "One size fits all" roof rack is not quite the same The resto Cal thing I understand in terms of Period accessories, but the "Roof rack Tuning" I'm afraid To coin a Keefy phrase "Its not that I don't get it, I do get it I just happen to think it looks sh!t"

I happen to think its cool too. but I don't think its cool to strap rusty old cans and junk to a curse word roof rack just to make your car look worse for scene effect, it isnt the same thing IMO. Thats MO. not fact

Ahhh, the subtle difference there being that I am always right. ;D
Ok I'll concede that one but I still think they are a practical item and yep, can look good sometimes but if you are doing it just to be cool that makes you very un-cool.

I'm not a fan, i wouldnt put on on a car of mine. althoguht i do think minis can look good with em but thats only come from the need for one creating a "look". the rally minis had em to carry spares so in turn people put them on their rally replicas which i think looks good.

Dude,.. any purely aesthetic modification to a car is done just to be cool,.. Any purely aesthetic modification is presumably being done principally because the owner thinks it looks nice. There is a difference between "because I think it looks nice" and "because I want to be down with the trendy kids" I'll use the parallel, you know those folks who always just look right, hair clothes, whatever, just nicely right. They picked the stuff they thought worked together and yeah, it does. Some of it may be from Marks & Sparks or a charity shop or one of htose chavy fashion shops in the cheap end of the arcade or anything. Don't matter, cos it all works. Then theres those people you look at and you think "I know you are wearing all the 'right stuff' but somehow you look like an unco-ordinated mess".... Theres cars out there the vehicular equivanet of going into a trendy boutique and buying a bunch of clothes because of the labels and hoping that this will all work out and if someone says "what are you wearing FFS you look like a right mess" you can look down your nose and say it's "Dolce & Gabana sweety" and flounce off thinking thats an arguement clincher...

Ahhh but we're not talking about that ,.. we're talking about the people that see <whoever> looking good in their <whatever> and think "I want a piece of that it looks cool/nice/better than what I have on", and so they go out and find out whats going on with the style/fashion and then apply it themselves. Nothing wrong with that at all...

Well said HoTWire, do we all not on here ask "pics for inspiration" now and again? its certainly not for "can you show me something cool related to my car/car i wanna get so i can ignore it all and think of something totally never done ever" is it? We all do 'something' 'fashionable' all the time......its a 'fashion' to make your car faster, lower, etc etc as 'fashion' is a term to determine a trend/regular occurance. so there

In some cases. In others there is definitely a case of "I am trying to do it, but I kinda missed the point" going on.
