Weighed up the option of filing away at the holes to fit golf coil overs but I can picture myself filing away for ever like a hopeless convict on a ball and chain with a nail rasp cursing myself for doing silly things to silly cars.
Only lowering springs around for a N14 Nissan sunny are H&R which are £180 for a set.
Get ready angle grinder I’m coming for you!
I’ll go for two coils and if that’s too short I’ll HAVE to get the h&r ones.

Can you leave the proton parked up without its springs for a while? Then you might try to press the original springs yourself. But better when your wife is away for a few days. Then you press those springs till all the coils are in touch and put them into the kitchen oven at 250°C (or more) for at least three hours. Let them cool down completely before you declamp them. It should have an effect, but no one can predict how much. If it´s not enough you still can cut them. erm nah i'll stick to cutting thanks!

I’d be buying Golf coilovers, some big-ass washers for where you’ve enlarged the holes and a die grinding set (not the crappy stone ball ones, the actual carbide burr cutters) and fitting coilovers. The golf platform ones can be made to fit anything. Brothers Demio is on Seat Ibiza 6K coilovers all round, which, is Golf platform..

I really like your Ignis and new 500. I am happy for you that you like the Proton. Looking forward to see the "truck's" transformation

Loving the wheels!
The new car looks great! Probably not something I should admit to, but I have always fancied an abarth 500, I reckon they could be a good bit of fun for chucking about!

No shame it admitting that - not driven one myself but believe they are nice driving cars, we stuck to the tamer(cheaper) 500s - it's pretty much a normal 500 with different bumpers but it comes without any chrome apart from tiny front fog surrounds - the lack of chrome is the main thing I like about this model.

I looked at those but youtube videos and reviews of the die grinder bits cutting through hardened steel like a knife through butter made me go for those. It could come in handy for future suspension bodges / modifications.

No shame in admitting it After owning a more tame 1.2 'Pop'. We decided to upgrade 18 months ago... I say 'we' it's mostly the Mrs' toy and I occasionally am allowed to play if I've been good Fantastic little thing and a real pocket rocket for some fun around the lanes. Been keeping up with the Acty progress on instagram - as others have said, loving the new wheels and looking forward to seeing the transformation. Keep up the good work! ETA, please get some of those chrome covers for the valves on the wheels... make such a difference... but mostly appeases my OCD

I’ve heard good things, but same as you, I’ve never driven one! I did notice the lack of chrome trim, it’s refreshing to see a modern car that’s not covered in it! Loving the wheels! Or is more about the handling with them? I know they’ll never be properly fast, but they are something that had been in my mind in the past....

I use the type he’s bought in an automotive workshop. The ones that look like drill bits are a bit hobbyist in my eyes although I’ve never used them they would probably be ace for sheet metal. The carbide burrs will have it done in a few minutes.

true....but for the bit of extra time taken vs cost saving think how many beerages you could buy to quench the sweat worked up!! But then I'd need to take into account the loss of earnings caused by me plunging a file into my eyes out of pure frustration. I'm hoping with this method I can don safety glasses, drill a small marker indent to centre the cobalt bit, plunge in the cobalt bit, five minutes later high five myself in victory.

They don't work like that, think of them as a file, you need to work the hole in the direction of desired 'hole extension'
