Right the Peugeot is going the journey (some sort of injector pump mystery or major timing error). I want to go back to what I know and love J wibblepoo. Its gotta be RWD, its gotta be japanese and its goota have tuning potential or some bhp already. I already had a C32 laurel and Toyota Soarer so they're out. Top of my list of wants: C31 Laurel the single carb L24 can be twin carbed for 150bhp of Z car goodness. Plus I heart poo brown. S12 Silvia its an AE86 lookeee likey for a fraction of the price. Plus turbo! 910 bluebird, smaller L series primed for some z1 carbs or twin SUs or something. The headgasket king MA70 supra in 7MGTE flavour What have I forgotten? any other suggestions?

Mitsi GTO? Its pretty, quick, easy parts and 2wd ones are still in budget. Or a Stagea, punch and practicality in one lovely, square package.
Love the S12, i'd almost forgotten about them!

I don't like the IS200 not retro enough, and while I like the GTO they weigh more than the moon and aren't they all 4WD? Plus I have seen that transverse V6 and don't like the look of it for working on.
Where does one get a stagea for less than 1500 squids?

Deffo not all GTOs are 4WD I can't comment on engine access, never worked on one! I've seen 2 Stageas under £1500 in the last year, one on a well known auction site and one with an ad in the screen on a caravan site in Burnham on sea. Not saying either of 'em didn't need a bit of fettling mind, though the Burnham one appeared to be street legal. I have a thing for estate cars and quite fancy one myself! Didn't buy either cos my budget is nearer a grand! Steve

Not sure what engine was in your Soarer but a Lexus LS400 maybe? Can get a good one for as cheap as £600/700, silky smooth 4.0 V8 with somewhere between 200-300 bhp, rwd and loads of comfort and reliability.

Came here to suggest the ls400 too!
I've had a few all for sub £450 and my first with straight pipes and a welded diff was the most fun you can have for the price imo. Straight pipes make a huge difference and the bum dyno estimates abit over300BHP. Think they're like 270 standard but they're fantastic engines.

American Spec auto's are 2wd, all uk 3000gt's and JDM GTO's are 4wd. They are difficult to work on, by no means sports cars, but a very capable tourer. Will seat 4 people and they look awesome!! Eurospec offer a good servicing package. Heres my Twin Turbo!

I can't say anything for owning one but the S12 is the most interesting of your choices second to the Stagea. There's a really nice S12 in this parish that may help you decide.

All these things are way too heavy. Do KE70's exist here? They're AE86's but cheaper.
To be honest i'm falling asleep at all of these suggestions, just get an E36 like a normal person.

I wouldn't have an E36 gift-wrapped. To common, to German, to awful looking.
The LS400 are way to heavy and heavy on fuel.
GTO is out, as I can only afford and NA and its 4WD
I really do fancy the S12 it has 86 looks, it has turbo, it doesn't weigh more than the moon.
Whats the CA18ET like? I know the DET had big ends made of cheese. Same issue with the ET I have seen a few pf those reliant wedge things with that engine in having big end issues..

An S12 like the one in your pic would get my vote.Looks cool, pop up headlights (which are the nuts) and some power to be had.Lexus wise UK- Is series cars are a bit of a yawn, you need the JDM Altezza with the Blacktop Beams engine and dual VVti

Depends what you want to do. CA's are underpowered nugget motors, but at least they're not as truck like SR's are.
If you want something cool, you'd go an FJ, if you want something fast you'd use an RB25 or 26.
Either way you're still stuck with an S12. There are no S13's here? Such a better platform, still cringe worthy in try-hard though.
Unsure why turbo is a consideration, just makes things hotter and more complex, i'd go an RB25 n/a with hot cams and a decent intake, make that thing move, they don't weigh much they don't need 300kW.

Just get a 3 series on finance like a normal person... This place is great because one person can treasure their Uno while another treasures their Noble. Normal need not apply. If youre talking like that the LS1 is more power, more torque, better delivery and lighter than an RB. Easier to extract more N/A power and will make far more power and easier with a turbo. LS1 S12, you know it makes sense.

RB's are pretty much an off-the-shelf drop in and go proposition though.
And if you're going to the work of an LS1, why not an LS3, 6, LT1 etc
Then you've got to start playing with gearboxes, rear ends, everything... RB stuff mates up using Nissan parts-bin stuff. I've owned (well, still do) an LS1 powered FC, it's not that easy. Even little stuff like throttle linkages, clutch masters, etc... Bah. OEM bolt in stuff is so much less pain.
