Depending what kind of ride you're after with your suspension can change what to go for spring wise. Having the front anti-roll bar seemed to make a biggest difference to me. I just have a standard Midget one on at the moment but looking to go to the next thickness up Midget one to pair up with my 400lb springs which seem to be reasonably firm but not uncomfortable. That's how mine is currently, just need to get the engine and gearbox that I have into it but that won't begin till about October 2016 but it'll be worth the wait having near 200bhp to play with

1.8 K Series turbo out of a MG ZT. Standard come with 160bhp, but there is always going to be a little playing O:) Got the engine and planned gearbox sat in the garage, brakes and suspension on. Just trying to collect the rest ready for the winter changeover to make the conversion as quick as I can. I get out and drive this a lot so want to minimize down time. (I have quite a trip planned for arriving at RRG16 )

It started the same as normal others, well a chrome A30 grill anyway, but then I played with a dremel and a spray can.

Had quite a good day today, offered the Toyota engine and gearbox up, Surprisingly everything went to plan, other than having to give the flange around the tunnel to bulkhead a tweek, it all fits surprisingly well, NO CUTTING NEEDED!!!!!!!!!!! even the gear lever comes out in a reasonable position thru the original hole, the gearbox needs to be elevated a bit more but there is about another 40mm to go. gearbox mounts correspond within about 20mm it all looks exceptionally good so far,.................until I try to mount the carbs, Which I had sorta guessed would be an issue, the steering box is in the way, not just a smidge, its seriously in the way Options seem to be 1,change the manifold for a downdraft one and find some downdraft carbs... 2, downdraft manifold again and go TB injection, ££££, 3, Change the steering box for a rack, The steering on these little cars is notoriously prone to bump steer, before I even look at a rack swap the steering was going to have to be looked at BIG TIME. The steering centre drag link runs across the back of the bulkhead where in turn connects to idlers and steering arms, lots of joints to give play in the system, So the Thoughts have turned to one of these, a Cavalier/Astra centre pivot rack, any other suggestions to centre pivot racks would be gratefully received

Imp rack is the sort of thing I'm looking for, but its front mounted, mount it on the bulkhead turn left, the car goes right, interesting scenario, Smart car racks don't, from what I have seen, pivot in the middle,

Great news that it fits in the hole! Down-draught carbs would look brilliant. I don't remember bump steer issues with my A35 but that was a long time ago now...

The pug / citroen rack is central pivot but most of the rack is to the steering column side. I should have a couple of them including the column amongst all my stuff. They are quite compact compaired with the Vauxhall one which might help.

Oooh thats interesting, Just had a quick look on google, could you be so kind and run a tape over the pivot, I need to know how deep the rack is, the distance from the mounting flange to the pivot so I can see if I have clearance from my bulkhead to my block

Whats the reasoning behind a centre Pivot rack rather tgan a conventional one replacing the drag link as in a minor?

I would have thought that a normal rack would take up less space but I don't know how the current steering arms are laid out. I will measure the rack I have any way.

Whats the reasoning behind a centre Pivot rack rather tgan a conventional one replacing the drag link as in a minor? The thinking behind using the centre pivot rack, firstly its reasonably easy for me to use as the original steering runs across the back of the bulkhead above the bellhousing, and thats about the line where my rack will have to go to clear everything without having to rejig the whole front suspension/steering. Minor racks are, from memory about 4" too wide, although they are easy to narrow, at the moment I would prefer not to go down that route, another option is fit a Spridget rack, use the correct steering arms etc, again its a well trodden path, but I think the steering would still foul my carbs. More thinking behind the rack, a centre mount rack should give less bump as the arc (radius) movement is less, in turn, having less impact at the steering arm than a traditional rack. hopefully this makes mounting of the rack dead easy to get it in the correct position. which in my mind I make it on a position to mimic the centre drag link, obviously I will perform bump testing, rightly or wrongly I don't envisage any major problems.

Would bike carbs be an option? They are generally less bulky than webers...?

The thought has crossed my mind, and is a real option, I will need to have a think and see what is the best option for me, personally I like the look of the dellortos over bike carbs, but we cant have our cake and eat it all the time,
