No, the one that came after that, but as this is about my 110, and not the ex wife, I'll leave it at that.
I've done a lot of reading on the merc engines. Happy I could pull it off fairlt easily, the limiting factor is my wallet.

Been a member there since the beginning. I like the idea, but it's not the engine for the 110.
The 101 or one of my other planned FC projects however are a different story.

We'll see. They're mostly a stack of bits at present, but I might dig something out...

No pictures, but the current project list is thus:
1976 GS 101 FC 1963 IIA FC 1973 One Ton
Along with these two I'm working on for other people:
1966 IIB FC 1966 SWB IIA hardtop
The One Ton will be fairly standard, whilst I've plans for the FC's to be a bit more interesting.

Mmmmmmm 2a FC, very nice. Would go well with the 6 pot Merc diesel!

Would you believe I've already had that thought?

I would! ;-)
How far up/down the priority list is the 2a?
Sowen has made an R380 to OM60* bellhousing. That'd go quite nice in an FC.

The IIB and the SWB need doing first, then when I can get the other 3 together they'll probably all bumble along together a bit when I get time.
Without drifting too far away from the 110, the current want list for the IIA is a 606 driving through an autobox (probably the ZF 4HP22/24 type) and LT230, with a pair of Disco 2 axles and associated anti roll bars (unless I can suss out making the ACE system work as a standalone unit) with some suitably macho tyres.
End result will hopefully be a truck that's standard at first glance, but permenant 4WD, power steering, disc brakes, a decent road speed and hopefully reasonable handling. Big win says I.

Apart from the auto that was my plan too! After the stick you got for having an auto 101, I wouldn't dare! ?

I liked it, it did what I wanted, why would I care otherwise?
The efi on it was another advance that I got ribbed for, but it was still better than carbs.

Will try and wait patiently for pics of the 2a project :-)

So, the 110 has been busy clocking up the miles again, just over 800 in the past week, and has required a few bits to keep it going smoothly. New PAS and alternator belts have replaced the somewhat stretched (and slipping on the PAS) that were on there, along with sorting a couple of electrical issues, and gutting out the interior, 2 bin bags later it was somewhat cleaner inside. I also treated it to a bit of a makeover, some headlight surrounds from a Series III and a suitably shaped piece of inch square galvy mesh has given it a bit of a retro look. To add to that, the clean paint on the front end showed up how dirty the rest of the car was, so it was washed for the first time in about 2 years too. What do we think?

Insanely jealous. Looks great! If you ever sell it,you could retire on the proceeds such is the value of these now.

No pictures -I need to do a proper update for that- but I'm pleased to report it's still running.
It needed a bit of welding for an MOT, and has had a few other minor inconveniences dealt with along the way.
I had bought a BMW M51 -and an injection pump from an M21- to replace the Mazda, however the plan changed a bit after I found myself thinking another Petrol engine might be fun.
This led to looking at a variety of options, including the South African built 2.8i Defenders. Some time spent on YouTube followed by an evening browsing ebay with some money in the bank.
The upshot of it all is that I'm now the proud owner of an M52B28 from a 328i and now wondering if I stick with an autobox or fit An R380 and a clutch pedal.

So, after six years of use and abuse the autobox decided it's had enough. I believe it's the usual failure of the first gear ratchet clutch, and to be fair to the thing it was an unknown quantity when it went in, has covered the thick end of 30k miles in the 110 with a big heavy 4 cylinder diesel banging away in front of it, including lots of towing, and varying oil level due to a slow leak in the cooler, and even losing all its oil when a cooler line split. They're pretty hardy those old ZF 4 speeds... Anyways, by quaint coincidence I was heading for my workshop with this in the trailer. So, rather than the original plan of being organised and putting the engine and gearbox together and having everything going ready to drop into the car over a weekend it's now parked up waiting for me to pull the engine and box and replace it with the BMW, and the manual box I've decided to fit behind it. Not the best way it could have happened, but such is life.
