Fixed all of the dash lights bar one bulb (the gear indicator), it's strange to have see it all lit up! I then booked the car in for an MOT. I was dreading this but at the same time I really wanted to know the failure points so I could address them ASAP and get the car tip-top. To my surprise...: It turns out the ol' 'give it a bloody good clean before you take it to the garage' tactic worked a treat! So there are points that might not be failures or advisories but they're still bugging me, so they will be fixed as and when time allows. One of the more immediate needs is new tyres... While the tyres are all perfectly legal in terms of tread they are outright dangerous in how poorly they actually perform! The back are Infinity tyres and they are woeful. After the car tried to reverse itself coming off a roundabout in the recent wet weather I spurred me on to get the new wheels/tyres sorted.. Random wet weather shot for no particular reason... So the Style 32s I bought a while ago have been dropped off at the shop. This is the colour I've gone for, black sparkle (apparently!): I'm not sure of it personally, but I couldn't stand to pay for just a boring-ish silver refurb! Sadly uploading to the internet seems to ruin picture quality but I also helped my brother tidy up and wax his BMW this weekend, just before it biblically rained...: More updates soon

Great stuff, my E34 also passed first time last Saturday, had fixed the advisories from last year though so that helped.
Will be interested to see how the Style 32's turn out, mine are in getting done at the moment, should get them back Friday, wanted something different so went for a greeny, silvery, blackish metalflake finish, should be interesting, or horrible, not sure which.

markgenesis congrats! I'm a bit annoyed though, as I think it really should have at least had a few advisories and it would've helped me prioritise the jobs I need to get done! Speaking of the 32s... I'm not sure I like them yet, I'll have to get them on the car and see what I think. Outside they're almost silver, but as you put them in lower light they go a lot darker. It's quite an interesting finish - and for £120 for all four wheels I'm not complaining! There's a few blisters under the paint that weren't tidied up before painting the wheels, but as I say, for 120 notes... New centre badges and wheel sealant ordered, I'll order some spigot rings today too, to ensure they mount correctly. Then it's off to the tyre shop..!

Nice updates. My 525i SE is just sitting on the driveway unused, needed an estate car for practical reasons and the saloon wasn't cutting it. Reading this makes me want to go tinker with it, as you say it's well thought out and put together so many jobs are a pleasure.
Regarding the wiper arm hitting, I moved mine up the screen a little bit on the passenger side to try and help, but they're all worn from touching the bonnet.
Shout if you plan on lowering it any time soon as I have some E34-specific bump/rebound/height adjustable rear AVO coilovers up for sale.

Love the wheels, might have to steal that colour idea for mine as well.... I know I've said it before but it just needs that little bit less arch gap at the front and it'll look perfect

Love the wheels, might have to steal that colour idea for mine as well.... I know I've said it before but it just needs that little bit less arch gap at the front and it'll look perfect We really could be matching then! After you lower yours a bit... New wheels bolts are fitted, you can see the size difference here: It's a good job I didn't try moving the car as the wheels really hadn't seated on the hubs properly... Not my most intelligent moment trying to refit them..!! A quick before/after of the bolts, I sort of liked the silver ones as they broke the colours up a bit, but from a distance the black does look better imo. Excuse the flat-ish tyre, I think one of the valves is leaking so will take the car back to the tyre shop soon and get that fixed! A few more pics trying to capture the wheel colour - it really doesn't photograph well but it looks silver and anthracite/black at the same time, I've decided I'm really happy with the wheels and colour choice now More updates soon hopefully

New rims look sweet. You go nice amount of lows on the front and you start running out of shock travel, silly design they are, so can see why you've kept it like it is.
Shame on the jacking point, I've welded both fronts on mine too, it's not too bad, maybe source some repair panels so they don't need to be fabricated from scratch?

Love the look of it with the new wheels (not that it looked bad before); gorgeous colour for the car too - it comes up well with a polish, proper "gentleman's express"

iain thanks If I can get all the rust fixed I do plan on tinkering with the suspension at some point... Regarding the rust, I'm going to get the skirts off and take it to someone reputable and get the entire underside repaired - the car is currently a keeper! (although I do like to change my mind every week...) Currently buying a house though, so it may have to wait a few months until everything is sorted!! Morris63 thank you close up and under lights the paint does need redoing (it's clearly been resprayed in some places too) but from 2 metres it looks the part strangely since I've changed the wheels the car has been getting a lot of attention. I think before the BBS reps looked period, so you could forgive people for thinking it was just OEM, but the painted Style 32s do make it look a lot different, and touching up all the trims and plastics has made it look a lot darker on the whole. The aforementioned house purchase will likely put a hold on major undertakings on the car for a while, but I have plenty of little niggles/jobs planned to keep me going for now..!

The House buy and work is still stopping me from putting meaningful time and money into the car, so no big updates still I did however have to get this sorted: The tyre was down to 9psi when I put the wheel on the car and though that maybe the tyre place just didn't pump it up... Not the case. Took the car back to the tyre shop and my suspicions were confirmed that the valve wasn't sealing properly at all. They were very good about it and quickly removed/fitted a new valve and were apologetic about it. These things happen so no hard feelings! in the air, the shop lights were VERY flattering on the paint and a quick booty shot, as I always seem to focus on the front of the car... (although the front is easily my favourite angle to look at it!) I do like the wheels in medium/low light, the car looks quite 'stealthy' for want of a better adjective. I'm hoping to sort some niggles this weekend if it doesn't rain, so I may update this with more mundane stuff tomorrow evening..

Fixed two niggles that have been really annoying me since I bought the car: the interior lights not working and the sunroof fabric having become detached. I had previously tried to fix the interior light but it was a rush job in the dark (the irony!). Doing it properly was a 2 min job (kicking myself I didn't just do it sooner and properly first time!) - pushing the switch a little harder would turn the lights on so I knew the contact was just a little weak. I pulled the light switch fitting out and massaged the switch blade back into position - and it all works perfectly now The sunroof was a little more involved but still straightforward. One of the seals looks a little tired and the glue was all dried and split - so I think the glue has just been exposed to moisture and/or then dried up over time. Luckily the missus had some fabric glue lying around from a recent fancy dress effort. You can see the dropped lining and glue here: It was a mess so I had to pull out all the old glue to make sure the new glue wouldn't just stick to that and come apart again, typically I'd just cleaned the interior before thinking to tackle this...: More crusty glue: The metal inside the roof looks nice, clean and solid which is nice - at least it's not all totally rotten! Finally the lining all glued in: and a convenient picture of the roof lining and interior light all nicely finished up! I've ordered some new boot gas struts so hopefully will fix more issues soon - I'm on the warpath trying to fix as many niggles as I can while the house move goes through - then when I'm more financially sorted the rust will be tackled...!
