So the lighting saga continues... Today I thought I'd tackle the instrument cluster. Since I've owned the car only the fuel gauge and speedo would light up with the switch, which made night time driving very annoying. So the two screws that hold the cluster were taken out and the cluster was pulled forward: The connectors behind the cluster were removed. I checked them all for wear/damage etc but they all looked fine. A quickly jiggle around and sanity check (back together and lights on, still no lights) proved the issue wasn't that simple. So some wiggling of the steering wheel and, voila, cluster comes out. I do like working on this car, most things are very clearly labelled and it's well thought out and put together: Two screws later and the cluster came apart: I went and bought some 501 bulbs to replace what looked like the burned ones, only to realise that they need to be 3W bulbs, not 5W. So in fact I needed 504 bulbs. This is where I think the problem was, a previous owner had replaced one of the bulbs with a 501, this seems to have caused burning/damage to the cluster at some point? So two new bulbs in (centre and right bulb) and I put it all back together. I had to remove the steering wheel to get the cluster back in, but again it all came apart/went together with no issues at all. And success!

I also cleaned the car the other day. A neighbour actually came over and joked that the wheels were blinding him, which secretly made my day... Yup, I need to get out more. The car was this clean for approximately 30 minutes. Then I undertook a ~160 mile round trip to pick up adam73bgt and his new second daily... I shall refrain from posting spoiler pics, I don't want to steal his thunder

Smiler you should pick one up although it does seem that good ones are getting harder to come by - I've seen a lot for spares and repairs recently! Today I was off work ill, but my boredom being stuck in the house quickly became too great so I went outside and did about as much as I felt well doing. So I cleaned all the leather with leather/clean and feed from Wonder Wheels. It's a small difference but it's taken the shine out of the leather and it feels a bit nicer to the touch, so I'm happy Few pics: The driver's seat bolster is a little worn, which is not surprising how hard the bolsters are. I'd love to get the interior refinished but I think I'd need a lottery win to afford it... If anyone has a good sport interior (grey or black) let me know Then I tried changing the cabin/pollen filter. What a total ball ache that turned out to be. The heater ducting for the footwell is attached to the underside of the dash in such a way that it seems like I'll need to remove the surrounding dash trim AND loosen off the centre console for wiggle room. A job for a warmer day when I don't feel like ass methinks... I got this far then conceded defeat:

What's the price of a good sport? Seem hard to find/price This one cost me just north of £2k. 4 previous owners, 114k miles. Service history to 70k and a bill of receipts from the previous owner for almost £700 over the last two years in parts alone! I knew it was kinda top end of what it's worth, but I really am quite taken with the car so I'm still reasonably happy with the price I paid

I got this far then conceded defeat: Its not the easiest of things to get to but I'm pretty sure when I did my dads car I had to just remove the black part of the undertray and the black air pipe to get to it. It certainly makes a lot of difference to airflow. I have always loved avus blue e34's but then again I am biased:-

It's only to the people with an interest in them that they are worth the asking prices, however in my eyes it takes big balls to take the plunge - kudos to you

eldiablo126 - That's what I was trying to do, unfortunately the black ducting is fixed to the panel by little tangs/metal clips, similar to what you get on some car badges, I tried getting one off and it just broke off in my hand! I've read a guide on how to do it, but it doesn't mention how you separate the two parts without butchering them lovely E34! I have some Style 32 wheels just like that I'm planning on refurbing and fitting, do you have any more pics? PistolPete - a text check evaluation when I was going down to view the car estimated it's worth at £175... bazzateer - nonsense, cars are built to be driven. If you like it go for it!

The TDS model responds very well to a couple of tuning chips.

Cleaned the interior, carpets and mats today during my lunch break from working. Before and after comparison on the rear mats (they weren't TOO bad) Before/after on the front mats And midway through the driver's mat, which was the worst by far Gave the carpets all a good scrub too, got as much out as I could in the time I allotted myself to do the work And some final pictures of the mats back in. It's so clean I don't want to get in it! S'all for now!

With regards to the rubbish heater, make sure the dash airvents are also set to "hot", the split heating system confused the life outta me with my old 520. My feet would be toasty but a northerly gale would be in my face!
All my previous and current BMW's have had great heaters.

passmethegun I've tried all sorts and I'm familiar with the off heating system, it's just very weak adam73bgt I didn't think, we should compare heaters and see if there is a noticeable difference at all! Haven't done much this weekend as I was giving the MX5 a deep(ish) clean. adam73bgt also came over to give his new German whip a clean, it is a very nice car for it's price/age!! I did however clean up the spare scuttle panels and wiper arms I have to go on when I replace the wiper arm mech (waiting for a longer, warmer day, it's going to be a real pain!) Few pics of the process: Before starting: The replacment blades are also damaged, but for now they'll do! Bit of primer to smooth it up a little After the first coat Parts all driving in the bake room (i.e. the living room...) And a quick picture of the Mazda and Adam's Estate all clean The 'Trans Prog' error occurred again the other day, so I have a feeling this is going to become more of an issue in the coming weeks... Booking the car in for an MOT sometime this week too, fingers crossed!!

Re, the worn leather.
I bought a lether repair kit from ebay, for my e46 club sport.
Re dyed the front seats and repaired a sizable whole in the bolster. Mine where much worse than yours. The kit was £20 ish.
I sent them my reg and they colour match the repair dye to your specific interior.
I though it was going to be curse word, but totally transformed the seats.
