Hi folks. Well over the last few weeks my mental health has been a bit poo, so my mojo for working on Doris has been very low! Since I have not felt like working on Doris I thought maybe some retail therapy might be in order, so I ordered these.... and one of these wiring loom kits... By thursday last week the darkness had started to lift from my mind and I managed to drag myself out to the shed to have a look at the gti front valence. Since I now have the driving lights, I need to get it painted. I had noticed when I primed it that there were some scratches showing through, so I bought a can of filler primer and gave it a couple of coats of that, and it now looks like this.... That was about all I managed to be honest! still its more than I did the day before so its progress. I am hoping to get black paint for the valence at the end of the week, I already have bumper paint, so I can paint it when I take it off to fit the valence. Thats it for now, thanks for looking. Steve.

Just read all 7 pages great read.
Looks like it was a great base to start from. don't see many non gti in black.
I have a 96 Peugeot 106 and mine has the same paint issues too!
Looking forward to more updates especially the lights and wheels.
As for your mental health, good on you. My parter battles anxiety and ive seen how tough the simplest thing is. Kudos to you.

stevietuck I'm sorry to hear that the black dog caught up with you over the last short while but I'm glad to hear that you have got back on track with the little Peugeot. I know I can speak for all of us when I say that it's inspiring to see you post about your mental health & that you are doing your best to cope. We have a thread on a motoring forum (I'm in Ireland) that I regularly post on called 'not being OK' and although the we are all petrolheads at heart, it's good to write down the curse word that's dragging us down. I think that the effort you are putting into the car is bloody great therapy so keep at it man. I had one of these years ago but mine was a van. It stayed in the family when I passed it onto my brother & we've both been petrolheads since! That was nearly twenty years ago :-) Keep up the good work man. Looking forward to seeing more progress. Well I have gradually started to feel better, so on Sunday I decided to give my GTI front valance a few coats of paint. I had bought two cans of peugeot black from halfords earlier in the week, so got stuck in, only thing was it was blowing a gale outside so I had to do it in my 6x8 shed. It would be ok if the shed was empty but it was far from it! So once I had moved the gti subframe and my new alloys up to the spare room, and moved my bike out of harms way, I started to paint. I had the valance supported on the back of an old chair, but I couldn't get all the way round it so had to keep moving it around so I could get paint on everywhere. Considering the conditions I was working in I'm quite pleased with the results. What I'm not pleased with is my $hit prep work! Up close you can see sanding marks in quite a few places showing through the paint. There is no way i'm starting again, I just don't have the patience for paintwork, it must be over 20 years since I last did any. I have got a can of clearcoat that I will apply some time this week, then its ready to fit. I will see how it looks on the car and if it annoys me too much I will have to redo it, but it will probably be covered in stone chips and flaking paint soon anyway lol! Anyway here is a pic... You may notice in that pic the metal surrounds from the driving lights, they are paper thin and I had read on the gti drivers forum that they can rust through in no time. They are made by denji and cost about 35 quid, which is about a hundred quid less that the proper siem ones so it was a no brainer really. I'm not spending 135 quid on lights for an 800 quid car! A few folks on gti drivers had recommended giving them a few more coats of paint, so I gave them five coats lol! hopefully they will last a little longer. Thanks for looking steve.

It's looking great buddy. I painted my driving light surrounds with a can of graffiti paint. Its real thick, so should last. I do it around once a year lol.

No ones gonna get as close as you are too it now. When it's fitted it will look fab. My old headmaster used to say to my mum on parents evening " you can't polish a poo!" And she used to say " no but you can roll it in glitter". Ha ha. Glad you are feeling better.

Just read through all this. Your doing a great job on the little Peugeot. I've been looking at getting a set of those driving lights for my 309 as I removed my old ones before the last MOT as the were shot. It's refreshing to see someone being so open about there problems aswell. I have suffered anxiety issues and have found its better to talk to people about it then suffer in silence
Best of luck to you for the future

tineca Cheers bud, your right about people not getting as close so wont see what i'm seeing. Also you can polish a turd if you let it dry and then varnish it retrorob86 Thanks for the support mate, the more I talk about my mental health problems, I find more and more people that also have problems and we all seem to suffer in silence, worrying about what others will think of us. We even try to hide it when what we should be doing is talking, it really does help. Cheers steve.

Well I have just had a five mile walk home! cant blame Doris though it was my own fault, I locked the bloody keys in the car!! Then once I'd got home I had to climb through an upstairs window because my house keys are on the same bunch of keys. I had taken the dogs for a walk in the woods, got about half way round the walk when I thought, why cant I hear the keys jangling in my pocket? Got back to the car and there they were still in the ignition. Neither me or my girlfriend had our phones with us so we had to walk the five miles home then get a taxi back with the spare key. Its been years since iv done this mainly due to the fact that I have been driving modern cars with a remote keypad type key so it never happens. New rule, I only lock my door with the key from now on Cheers steve.
