Gti's drink petrol anyway! When i had a 309gti about 10 years ago it drank petrol, I thought it must have a leak in the tank. Then I heard that they all do it. Some folk only see single figures at track days. 1.9 td with fmic can easily match the bhp of a gti and still give 50 mpg

May be this will help lilbob. Iv'e just been out in the car and when I got back in I must have stomped on the accelerator pedal because the throttle cable pinged off the pedal! A quick look under the dash and i find a throttle cable with a plastic pin attached to the end that goes through a hole in the accelerator pedal(at the top) so I stuck it back in and nursed it home. It looks like there should be some thing that clips over the end of the pin to stop it coming back out, but if there was, its not there now lol! So if i do anything but very gently press the pedal it just pops back out. Here is a really bad pic! Does anyone know if there is something missing or maybe broken off? Iv'e tried looking for new cables online but they don't show any pics. A new cable is less than £15 but i don't want to buy one only to find that iv still got a bit missing. Can anyone help? Anyway here are the pics of my 80's themed stickers. Thanks for looking Steve.

Loving the 80's stickers could you not modify it by putting a nut and bolt where the plastic clip is

Yeah maybe, I would have to cut the plastic pin off then drill a hole through what was left of the plastic still attached to the cable. I would have to take the cable off the car to do that, so would be as well to get a new one, but I could still end up with a missing piece! I will prob nip to the local Peugeot dealer in the morn to see if they can help.

welshpug Thanks for that pic. It looks like the pin has a barb on it, looks like the barb has snapped off mine so its time for a new cable.

Well my new throttle cable didn't arrive till yesterday because of the bank holiday, but this morning I went and collected this... As you can see in the instructions pic, the new cable has a removable end piece ( engine end ) this made the new cable so much easier to fit. It meant I could just chop the end off the old cable and simply pull it through the bulkhead in to the drivers foot well, leaving all the rubber grommets still in place. The new cable could then just be fed through the grommet in the bulkhead back in to the engine bay, cut to the right length then attach the end piece (sorry don't know the proper name) and attach to the throttle linkage.Only thing is, I didn't pay much attention to the routing of the old cable, so it took a few attempts with the new one to get the throttle opening and closing freely. I didn't take any pics during or after fitting because it was pi$$ing down! Anyway took her for a spin and I think she may even be a little quicker than before, making me think I may not have been getting full throttle with the old cable. In other news, after selling the mondeo the other night( Iv'e never sold a car so easily before, first person that contacted me came round and bought it, for not much less than id advertised it for) Iv'e been busy on ebay lol! I'm trying to be sensible (which isn't easy) and get the stuff she needs to keep her running well and not deteriorate, so Iv'e ordered a new d/s driveshaft, the one on the car has been knocking when cornering so needs changed. Also the roof has quite bad lacquer peel so have ordered some wet and dry, as I plan to try to rub down to the paint and re do. There is also a wee rusty patch at either side of the boot floor, under the carpet, so I have ordered some wire wheels, rust converter, primmer and paint to sort that out. Next up some shiny! a pair of rear speakers. I don't really want to chop up the parcel shelf, so have just gone for a pair that fit behind the standard grills as there isn't any at the moment. I am also hoping the contact I found who is braking the gti will be back in touch with some prices before the weekend, if he does I may pay him a visit Thanks for looking Steve.

Sounds good. Nice to find a little extra throttle travel huh. I had something similar on my Polo and it felt like a rocket ship after!
Keep us updated

Yesterday these arrived in the post. So I put them here. That makes it all sound sooooo simple, it wasn't and it hurt a lot! The spring clips that came with the speakers, weren't big enough the clip over and line up with the holes on the speaker cavity, so I had to remove the rear panel (what would be a door card if there was a door) and feed my hand up behind the speaker to hold the spring clips while I screwed in the screws. This was not a problem I could reach no bother, what was a problem was the fact that the place that the speakers fit in the back of a 205, is right where the badges that would say 1.9 gti (if it was a gti but are just plain black on mine) are, so the fixing where right where my hand was. Both my hands look like Iv'e been fighting with a cat! but at least they were in. So with the speakers fitted I went to replace the grills and they wouldn't go back on because the speaker cones stuck out too much. You can imagine how delighted I was at this discovery! and was just thinking sod it I'll leave the grills off, when it dawned on me that the front speakers don't have such sticky out cones, and that they would fit behind the grills. So out they came, as did the front speakers, and I swapped them round, wired them up and stuck in a tape. That's more like it! Psychedelic furs sound like they are playing on the bonnet now (their an 80s band, younger viewers), so I'm very happy Thanks for looking Steve.

Biscuit Cheers mate More ebay goodies have turned up today .. The wet and dry , primmer and paint , I'm still waiting on the wire wheels and rust converter. I can't believe how much this wee lot cost, last time I bought this kind of stuff, I got the lot from halfords for less than a tenner and had change to go got on the pi$$ I think this properly demonstrates how much I like doing bodywork, so this stuff may sit and get dusty lol! I'll properly make excuses like the weather was poo or the dog ate my homework. Mind you I could always wait till its raining to rub it down, so I don't have to bother with water

Well after weeks spent trawling ebay and gumtree and the like, I have finally bought some new wheels Remember I said I like things like this... Well they were already sold, so that was no good. They were also 15", which is what I'd told myself I needed.Thing is I think fitting 15" or bigger can cause problems on non GTI cars, so I started to rethink. I had spotted these wheels on gumtree before I even had the car, but had dismissed them as they are 14", but like I say I'd had a rethink and decided 14" may be the better option as the brand new kumho tyres I have on the pepper pots can be swapped over. They are going to need a refurb, but I think I should be able to manage that myself. So I give you my new OZ racing alloys. I'm thinking maybe do the centres black, with a polished lip. What do you think folks? In other news I added a good 25 bhp today by doing this.... Right now I'm after some advice please. The following 3 pics are of the lacquer peel on the roof... I'm thinking of using 1500 grit wet and dry to remove the lacquer, then clean up the paint with 2000 grit, then re lacquer . Does this sound doable? Iv'e never really done anything like this before so anyone with experience please speak up. Also which lacquer should I use? it will have to be rattle can,as don't have a gun. Thanks for looking steve.
