A few years ago I posted pictures of an old Jaguar Mk1 I'd found in the "Abandoned cars" thread. I tried to buy it back then but it wasn't for sale. I always wondered what happened to it. These are the original photos - A real project but unfortunately one that got away. Then last week I found it again, on ebay! I had to have it, bid and won. I'm collecting it next week. It's a late 1950's Mk1 3.4 manual, which makes it RARE! I can't wait to get stuck into it and build this car. This is the car as it sits now - Most people have heard of Mike Hawthorne, and he raced one with some success back in the late 1950's. Nowadays you see people like Grant Williams sliding them around Goodwood and generally doing really well at Historic racing. I want a piece of it so here goes.

Love an old Jag but curse word me thats gonna need some massive redemption isn't it? I'm assuming that any kind of trim/bodywork parts for this are gonna cost crazy money?

Yeah, parts for the Mk2 are OK to come by, but parts for this are like poor quality wobbly children's play pony droppings. Don't really know where I'll find it all to be honest!

I wouldnt worry for the moment . It a lovely old thing .
I would sort the body and engine then worry about the other stuff , its not like you will lose money . If you had to sell it it would be worth a lot more in that condition .
What abaut looking up Mystery Machines thread on his old daimler , he got it from some old duffer with dpzens of them - might be the sort of place he would let you have a box full of bits for £50 rather than £80 quid for a handle , £50 for a fag lighter etc like ebay .

Go for it! A brave buy, but a shrewd one without doubt - and if you can do the work yourself and will love the end product then eversomuchmoresothebetter! Cheers Matt

Superb! That should make a pretty and competitive car when done. It should be eligible for plenty of events too. I can't wait to see how this goes, bookmarked!

Thanks for all the comments, I'm not collecting the car until this Saturday so at the moment I'm just looking for parts and figuring out which bit to tackle first. It's always a strange time with a big project working out what order to get parts in and in what order to do everything. I guess just tackle one piece at a time.
I plan on doing everything apart from the respray myself, it keeps costs down and its what I enjoy doing. I really can't wait to get stuck into this car, I sold my TVR to buy this!

So today was the day I was supposed to fetch the Jaguar. However, yesterday afternoon my friend with the trailer rang me to say he could do it in that afternoon. What could possibly go wrong. Well, we got there, got the car loaded easily enough and set off home. However, when we got back was when the problems started. We'd forgotten my engine crane so had to lift/drag the engine off by hand, then it was onto the car. It refused to budge. 3 hours of pushing, shoving, levering and swearing later it fell off the ramps and got wedged. Midnight last night we finally got it off the trailer and into it's space. I've not really had the time to check the car over today, the boot is locked so there could be anything in there! Over the next few weeks the first issue is to get it rolling so it's easier to move and work on, and start making the (very long) parts list. Meanwhile, since my TVR is now gone I need a sensible everyday runabout. So on Wednesday I'm going to look at this as a potential -
