Ok so here goes again with an Uno turbo, probably my 20th or so over the years My last project was just too far gone for me to get stuck into so sold up last year but have been looking for a runner ever since. This example popped up on eBay a few weeks ago so after several phone calls it was mine and had I it delivered within a few days. Its a 1990 G reg, mk2 1.4 8v turbo 118bhp version so 25 years old it was the 1st of the series 2 Uno turbos. With only 5 previous owners and just over 100k covered it has proved to be a decent buy indeed, still sporting the original Radio cassette and gear knob coupled with the fact theres not a bleed valve in sight I think ive found the one to restore. Obviously theres plenty to do on her with the paint work the largest job of all as its dreadfull due to being painted by the previous owner All the welding has been done on it except a small hole on the rear inner arch, I indeed to strip the interior and zinc 182 the whole floor to seal it. Any way heres some pics of it.... Sitting on Mk1 uno turbo alloys which ive changed further down Came with an awful hacked up front grille which I'm about to change Also had odd rear lights on the back which ive sorted further down Interior abit grubby but all present Collected the correct early turbo lights and a door solenoid to fix the central locking Hacked up door loom wiring that ive now fixed Then fitted my Comp Mo's with yoko's onto it Rear lights fitted anyway that's it for now but much more crack on with...

Love it. These must be silly rare now, last one I spotted in person was in my local breakers about eight years ago and it was that rotten there was more holes than metal.

This is very cool! The paint job, what a shame! So good that you are gonna save it! I own a red MKII turbo too :-) So definitely will follow this thread.

Hey , you found one! And a nice one. Is she solid? When all my friends drove 205's and clio williams' i was saving up for this one. Never got it in the end. Love the compo's , really complement the cars looks. Hope you have a stock grill also , i'm not a huge fan of the chicken wire stuff ( on any car tbh) Bookmarked and followed.

That looks a really solid little car right out of the box, I'd have expected it to be holier than the Pope himself. Nice find.
Used to call these 'Satan's Shoebox' back in the day! Like what you're doing de-modding it, a fresh coat of Fiat red on there will look superb, but the Compo's and that deranged baboon 90s exhaust have got to stay.

Oh my goodness me, YES, YES, YES!!!
One of my earliest memories of hot-hatchery was seeing a neighbour cutting their springs on an Uno Turbo on their driveway!
Corking...

Awesome. My first modified car was an Uno Turbo - I bought it with lowering springs, spax shocks, big exhaust, and Delta Turbo 14" wheels. It was great, I particularly remember a trip to Hay on Wye 4 up leaving sparks behind me as it scraped along the road over the bumps! And when the indicator relay failed and I had to indicate with my arms for a few weeks! Sadly, a driveshaft blew up in a multi-storey in Croydon, and then it kept destroying driveshafts (including one on the garage ramp!). So I sold it for the same price I paid, to some guys who had another Uno Turbo and wanted the bits (and I got a £165 ebay Alfa 33, which was great). I'm glad you're going to sort it out, and I love the Compomotives. Looking forward to seeing more. Cheers Duncan

Great to see you got another mk2 Uno Turbo Vern, seems like a sound little project and hopefully a bit of inspiration for my own Uno mk1!! Glad I never did anything about the comp mo's, they look so right on yours they have to stay Can't wait to see how this progresses, all the best with it.

Cheers guys glad you approve of her So in the process of sourcing parts for it, so far new drivers door window motor, bonnet latch and grille are on order. I managed to stick the door rub strips back on as it looks odd without them obviously they will be coming off for car painting then on again also ripped the mesh from the grille to take the horrid look of it away haha Being a slight wheel whore that I am I dug out my 14" tempra alloys which are identical to the turbo 13" mk2 alloys so I've decide to have them diamond cut with black inserts, here's a ruff idea below also ordering a 60mm lowering kit.

Vern, I have been trawling this forum for a year or 2 now and enjoying every moment. My, my but I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw your motor. I bought that very model new in 1991, also in rosso corse. A brill motor, I had it for 4 years and enjoyed every second of it. I was a Fiat nut back then. I bought a 60S uno 6 door new, traded in 9 motnhs later for a brand new mark 1 uno turbo in black, then 3 years down the line traded that for the red mark 2 turbo just like yours.
These cars were fierce quick, even unmodded there was very little around Belfast that could keep up with it. The look on one guys face driving a 944 when I left him for dead at the lights, yes for everything else there is mastercard!
Best moment though was when I parked the black mark 1 at a pub. I had put a ferrari badge on the wing for a laugh. Sitting with some mates having a drink I overheard the bar bore who clocked my motor, he says "yes of course, you know Ferrari make the engine in the uno turbo" Ha, I wish! Had to chuckle though.
Health to enjoy! Looking forward to seeing the wee motor come alive on these pages
Dave
