Apologies if this thread has been posted before... What was your first car? I recently found some pics of mine, a 1964 Morris 1000 Van (with the dealer-fit optional side windows), known throughout my family as 'The Shed', which I felt that I just had to share with you lot ;D And yes, it did have an MOT!! I bought it when I was 17 (1997, when it was light blue), and slowly embarked on a rolling rebuild whilst using it everyday, which was still only half complete when I sold it in September 2003 (the pics were taken at the Morris Minor LCV 50th Anniversary Rally a month beforehand), to pay for the deposit on the Sprite. Despite appearences, I got £800 for it, much to the disbelief of friends and family , as the main things that needed doing were some welding to the lower edges of the van body, and a respray, as the interior had been retrimmed and the engine, suspension & brakes all rebuilt. The guy who bought it was a Minor specialist who manufactures all the necessary repair sections, so I doubt that he had any trouble finishing the rebuild!

Mine was a completely wrecked 1275GT that I got when I was 15 - the on ly reason I got it is becuase my brother couldn't afford to buy the whole car on it's own as he wanted the engine from it!
It took me about 18 months to get it back on the road, although i did have to put my brothers old 848cc in it so that I could get indsured on it - still the 1275 blew up 4 months after my brother put it in his Mini ;D
The 848cc didn;t last long in my car either, as that soon went BANG! Put a 1293cc in it, and then sold it about a month later! Got some pics somewhere, but not with me (Yes, I'm still working in Switzerland!)

I think we've done this before, but what the hell, it's a good excuse to slap on those rose-tinted sunnies and think back to more care-free days..... My first car was my fantastic Skoda Estelle 120 LS. We bought it in 1995 when we found it languishing round the back of a local garage. It cost the princely sum of £120, and initially my dad tooled around in it for a couple of months before handing it over to me! I'm sure I've got some pics of it somewhere: Have to find them and stick them up! It was involved in a bit of a prang in summer '96 (yes, my fault, I was distracted by fit girls in short skirts...) and thereafter sported several mismatching and primered panels, which failed to complement the lurid Orange paintwork. It managed also to survive being spun into a field on at least two occasions (verdict: youthful exuberance ;D) and catching fire as I tried to get to the bottom of why the fuses kept blowing. Superskud soldiered on for another year before becoming terminally ill with engine troubles (oops! ) and it was laid up when I went to University. I had hoped to revive it the next summer, but in the intervening time, my mum bowed to pressure from the neighbours who thought it "lowered the tone" (unlike their big ugly traveller caravan, then ), and the car was scrapped. . I still haven't fully forgiven my mum for doing this, especially since she did the same thing to my mini a couple of years later. edit: this was kinda what it looked like: but it was this lovely colour!:

i had an orange '73 1303 beetle bought when i was 17 in Oct 97 it came to MoT time and we discovered the floor was rotten as anything. Sadly she was scrapped. Then had a mini 1000 when i was at uni. It was maroon, i fitted mamba rims and it was excellent. then someone sideswiped me and that was the end of that one. and following that onto the beetle which is being built now, and the golf which is my daily hack.

1966 Imp Super in forest green. Really good origanal condition when I got it in 1995. It got vandalised by the local w##kers and I gave up interest in it and moved on to other things. I moved to Brighton and left it on my mums garden. It went on to a new home.
Now I'm back from Brighton my Imp obsession has come back.

An especially rough dark green Hillman Super Imp that was at one time modified, still had a lightly tuned 875cc Stiletto spec engine, I remember some stickers on the dash from various local events, little rallys and such, and some other racey stuff, and Weller eight spokes (that must be where it started!) with no floor to speak of and very little interior left which I got when I was about 13 for about £60, learned the basics of working on motors on, then we thought about restoring it but after a while of trying we realised it was a lost cause, stripped out the engine, gearbox, Wellers, and fibreglass bonnet, and stuck them on another Imp saloon that my Dad had got quite cheap and was using as a daily driver for a while. We scrapped the old thing in the end, which is no way to treat your first car I know but it was really quite shagged out.
Can't find photos though, must have been lost when we moved house.

A 1987 Skoda Rapid 130 in black which I bought in 1997 (I think...). After spending ages convincing my mates that it was actually a good car, it blew the head gasket with my mates in it . Still, replacing it was pretty simple and the gasket set me back the princely sum of £10! I rebuilt various things on it - front suspension, cylinder head, replaced the clutch... Sold it two days before I moved to London to go to Uni. The most comical thing to go wrong with it was the gearstick coming off in my hand! Driving all the way home in 3rd was a bit tricky ;D Fantastic car, I'd have one again like a shot. Lots of time spent looking sideways around corners!

My first car..... I'm sure i've posted this before? Its why I stick up for the 'un-loved' Vx Nova I like to think that as a 4 door, it was urrrm... somewhat unique (Now on reflection I do actually think it would have looked cool on some Euro style wheels - perhaps ) It never let me down in the 2 1/2 years that I owned it despite its 115k miles on the clock.

It was restrained stying wise, and a 4 door too, so it looks nice enough, the wheels aren't my cup of tea but on the whole it's quite nice! Now if it had had ugly three spokes, a sad bodykit that scraped the ground, some 'turbo' or 'limited edition' stickers placed about the place, and a bad boy bonnet, then we'd have to kill you! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

My first car was a Matt-lilac-coloured Vanden Plas allegro. All my mates wrote all over it.
I used it once to tow a brake-less marina van home, and not being any the wiser I fixed the tow rope to the boot striker plate. Infuriatingly, the Marina kept twatting into the back of it and ruined the nice chrome bumpers.
A friendly, uncomplaining and characterful car though.

First car i had was a silver Mk1 Fiesta 1300 sport. Front end was primer grey with Red Oxide scallops down the sides, courtesy of Mr Rmad. First car I bought was Mk2 Fiesta 1100 L bought when my Grandfather died. That car ended up lowered with polished XR2 pepperpot alloys and kit removed, Rmad has credited me with the honour of having the first euro looker fiesta around our way

Here's my first pride and joy. Bought it before I could drive and spent many an evening sitting in the garage fiddling around not really knowing what I was doing! I remember the day I passed my test but I hadn't finished building and rewiring the lights. Got my mate Solid round and spent til 3am botching some dodgy wiring system together, with the intention of sorting it properly the next day. Amazingly it held out for 3 years! ;D Happy days. Course 4 stud brms weren't around in my day, I was running on Rivieras instead!

!969 MK2 Cortina estate, bought for £25 if I remember right, when I was about 15. Sadly later scrapped First car I actually had on the road was a Mk1 Escort 1300 XL 2-door in faded maroon. Cost £180, I think. That was in 1987, when I was 17..... It had 'FORD' in big white letters down the sides, but these were quickly removed. I fitted a sporty steering wheel and some furry dice...... ah, the good old days! (strokes grey beard.... )

... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.
