Yikes that went up quickly. As you say, fair play to the guys who got him out, can't have been good for his son to watch either. Probably the worst place to hit it as the swirl pot and fuel pumps are in the left side of the boot Would fitting one of these in the tank solve the swirl pot problem?

Not really. Safer to mount the swirl pot in the middle of the boot, not off to one side.

You can mount that anywhere in the tank not just in only one place.

Rotaries are notoriously thirsty,it’s unlikely that that pump would keep up with demand. Very expensive for what it is too, would rather run two Bosch 044 pumps and have change to spare.Would be safer to run a foam filled tank.

Classic mustang people often put in a trunk divider mounted to the rear seat framing so fuel tank ruptures as a result of an accident (given the location of the tank and it being the trunk bottom) don't do as much damage and give the driver/occupants at least a fighting chance to get out unscathed.
Not saying this car didn't have one or that it would have made much difference in reality, but it is deemed a useful addition by most.
I also chose to mount my swirlpot under bonnet where fuel lines already run and placed the pump and filter on the outside of the inner wing underneath the outer wing. I don't think there are very many super safe spots for this anyway, but in an accident at least the fuel can't directly enter the passenger compartment. It's also not immediately in close proximity to the hot exhaust. To me it's a calculated risc.

Eek :S hope he recovers as well as possible.
That's one of the positives that's come out of me discovering my Spit will need to go through the IVA. It's made me reconsider the GT6 fuel tank I was planning to use which sits in the left of the boot.
Hadn't thought of putting the swirl pot up front though. Might be quite a good solution. Of course, I've got to be pretty confident the front can take a shunt as well as the best place for it is directly over the passenger's feet :S

That bloke makes it overly complicated. You don’t need to engrave into a piece of wood, you can use a sheet of polyurethane instead. He tries to do too much in one pass, and his setup is too wafty.Much better results easier to obtain if you have the part you are forming ,properly supported, not floating around in a vice. . I used this to form the ends of the Panther fuel tanks. 1,5mm stainless steel, that all the naysayers said it wouldn’t work...Only thing to remember is to keep the spindle turning slowly otherwise it’s a surefire way to muller your spindle bearings..😊

Yesterday was Christmas. Yay, Prezzies 😂 Still amazes me that I can still find new parts for the Rx2 New grill and headlight surround was an absolute score. Headlight is unfortunately left hand drive, but good for swapsies.Tailights again, good for trading with. ....and tomorrow is Easter....Feels like only yesterday that it was Christmas 😂😂 Late Christmas present due to arrive this week. Makes me very happy. Little clue for the inquisitive. Did you know that Bridgestone, the tyre manufacturer ,made alloy wheels for the Japanese market in the late ‘70s early ‘80s?....

I know it’s a long way off. I know it’s a long term project, but you have to acquire the bits as and when you can. Point in question ? Wheels. Very Marmite with these cars. The trend in the Southern Hemisphere seems to be bigger is better. Personally? I think it’s Gash... Cannot get this mental picture out of my head, everythime I hear somebody is putting a set of 17” alloys on an Rx2... So, I have been searching for suitable wheels for years now. I wanted a smallish wheel, no bigger than 15”, but that even in my mind is kinda maxed out. Got to be staggered front and back. Preferably a three piece split rim. Gotta have dish. Loads of dish on the back. When was the last time you saw 14” split rims? So easy then....😂 Bridgestone to the rescue then. They made split rims for the Japanese Market in the late 70’s early 80’s. Two boxes arrived yesterday....😃

JB - I like your lateral thinking & style - long before the wheels even come out of the box - nothing looks more hideous in my book than a motor with stupid looking oversize wheels fitted that were never intended for the car in the first place (but boys & girls that's my own personal opinion that I am entitled to - so lets not hijack Johnnys thread on that matter)
