www.burriedcar.comwell, its coming out tomorrow and they've started excavations. Unfortunately its pretty much as I expected. Can't see the car yet as its wrapped in a tarp but the "tomb" appears to have been full of water for much of the last 50 years... Even thought hey coated it in Cosmolite grease its got to be goosed. One of my life goals was to be there when they dug that up but we had a kid this year instead so I couldn't fly out for this. Looks like it could be a real anticlimax for a loty of folk who assumed the car would be minty-mint.

You missed this? www.burriedcar.comis the official site, but basically in 1957 the city of Tulsa celebrated 50 years of the city's incorporation or whatever and burried a timecapsule in the lawn of the governers residence. Into thes went a bunch of things typical of life in 1957 Tulsa, including a brand new 1957 Plymouth Belvedere (probably a 1958 model). Then in 50 years (15 June 2007) they would dig it all up again and the contents would be warded to the person who in 1957 guessed closest what the population of Tulsa would be in 2007. The condition of the new 1957 Plymouth has been the subject of internet speculation of increasing ferocity over the last few years Looks like whoever won a resto project.

That doesn't look good, it would have fared better if they had locked it in a barn for 50 years. Will be interesting to see how bad it actually is.

I'm blindly optimistic. I reckon they'll scrape off the hafl inch of grease from it to reveal a slightly patinated piece of automotive history... I can hope can't I?! Gonna keep an eye on this

I love the fact that they buried a few barrels of petrol and motor oil incase we didn't use fossil fuels anymore. I wonder if they realised that petrol goes off after a few years.

I think it might turn out ok, what with the grease and the complete lack of air down there it might of faired up better than we think!
Fingers crossed anyways!

I'm wondering that as well, since reading through the various info, in appears that the car was completely cocooned in the plastic, rather than just having cover over it. Also, if the water had got as high as is suggested, then would the shape under the plastic still even be car shaped?

Hmm, not convinced. If the plastic bag had been vacuum packed onto the car, then maybe it would have survived. If water filled that tomb, as it looks from the marks on the walls, that bag would have almost certainly burst somewhere from the pressure...
Be lovely to see an immaculate new car though...
