that and some 8 track cassettes. just need an 8 track player and recorder now I'm still on the lookout for either the "Music to drive by" (I forget the exact title of it) eight-track with a picture of a HP Firenza on the front, or any eight-tracks by The Stranglers, if your batch happened to include anything like that.

I wish... Perry Como was the best tape there, I want them to record on so not such an issue. I will keep an eye out though, as I will be looking for more.

I'm not going to start a thread for this, its a food mixer. A Kenwood Chef. My mates mum gae it to me last week. I only took it because its old. When I mentioned it to my sister she said "ohh I want one of those, its the one to have" Really? I was none the wiser, assuming it was somesort of fashion thing that made them popular. Its not this one, but its identical, except its grubby and noisy. VERY noisy. I decided to strip it down and found that the grease was either like play-doh or worse. Thats the grease in the belt driven gearbox. The proper machinery type gearbox. Something I was not expecting, not that I thought anything about what to expect, i just had no idea. These pic were taken after id stripped it and washed all the grease out. Plan is to regrease it using the big tub of grease that dad nicked borrowed from the bus garage about 45 years ago (period-correct grease win), and see how well it whips up a cake.

I tried, and eventually failed, to mend one of those a while ago. It had had best part of 30 years hard use. You can easily get spare parts for them, worth checking out the motor control board the capacitors go. p.s. I was sad enough to do a thread

Bootfair today was small. Sally panicked when we stopped and only 1/4 of the field was taken up and likewise parking are nearer 20% I told her, often when these quiet days have happened, with less people milling around, I have had great days. Less people also meant less pushing and shoving, and rude non English speakers, thus a chance to look and find stuff in the typical piles made up by spring cleaning or house clearances. Mate Craig and us got lucky today, with a few great pieces from one guy, everything was £1.00 or less.. Medium sized Crowbar £1.00 Grubby, rusty hatchet, £1.00 Maybe a bargain of the day for him, glass and chrome bodied courtesy/roof/map light for his 1950 Chevy truck or the 1948 Fleetline. Coat £1.00 Sally bought 3 blue glazed garden pots, and I got a green one, you guessed it…….. £1.00 each. Go price check those. Other items from the same seller included a weird pair of spring loaded, flat beaked pliers, a plumb line and a new padlock with 3 keys and a spring loaded metal punch, all for £1.00 Also at the same seller a small unused spirit level for £1.00 for mate Kevin who loves tape measures and instruments of accuracy. We bought a few plants ranging between £2.00 for a nice Rosemary and £1.00 for mint and some shrubs for Sallys new pots. Other items included a £2.00 dinner lap tray for one lodger, a hand rail £2.00 to be used as towel rail in the lodgers bathroom, a woollen floor rug to replace one I binned recently £2.00 Three Coffee mugs, 20p each, VW one for Craig, Batman for a colleague and large bunny item for my kitchen, size large for Mickey who likes a large mug of tea. Really nice, but dirty paper towel holder to replace the hateful one I have in the kitchen. So all in all, a decent outing today. Clean up Craigs hatchet, put away the bits, then carry on digging the second set of holes for the archway on the drive and make up the structure, before the rain really starts to fall.

I bought a 1" spanner that will make my next oil change easier* and a few other similar spanners and sockets because they were three for a quid. Then I dropped on a block paving cleaner (long handle, wire brush on one side and a scraper on the other for rodding out between the bricks) for £2. I wasted £2 on a DAB tuner (it works for a couple of minutes and then starts playing up, I later found), then went back, rummaged around and found the remote for it for another 50p. I keep telling myself not to buy electrical stuff, but if I somehow acquire a lot of electronics knowledge and figure out how to fix it, it'll be useful to replace my old MW/FM tuner.
(* I've had my Vauxhalls since 1986. I've got a 1" socket to do the oil changes, yet it doesn't it on because the anti-roll bar is in the way. I can only assume I've always used the big adjustable spanner. The fact that I can't remember probably suggests I don't change the oil often enough.)

I got this.... Bit of a side order, got it from a guy I know who does clearance work, its beautifully made, and yes the brake handle works, although I don’t know what the other lever does Any railway afficionados know anything about it? Seems to be about a 7” gauge

Hi, I would say the lever is the running or operating brake and the wind down one is hand or parking brake. Both working on the same undercarriage linkage.

Neither sale was very big because of threatened rain (which became actual rain while I was there, albeit quite light) but one "anything for a pound" stall gave me this: A lovely combined angle-poise style light and magnifying glass. It doesn't have the base, unfortunately, but I'm part-way through making something suitable. It didn't appear to work, but I removed and replaced the bulb and it's OK now. It came from the same person who sold me the non-working DAB tuner last week, and while I'd resolved not to buy anything electrical from the sales again (not just from that seller), I figured that I could probably fix a light if there was anything wrong with it. And it was a pound. Just look at that lovely sinister medical beige colour! And on the other sale, a nice spark plug socket which fits the little plugs in my Vauxhalls, for 50p. Just visible in the magnifying glass above.

Busy weekend, working on the arch over the driveway. Because of my back, progress is slow, but amazingly, the amount of work I did on Saturday and Sunday was way more than any day in the last three months. Osteopath and gentle exercise by walking 2km most days, seems to have allowed some recovery. I will do the archway write up in one when it is completed. I have one more piece to build and mount, along with the day job. Saturday Sally painted the nesting teapot doors, a nice shade of yellow. Resulting in a nice finish after she waxed all the wood twice with a nice beeswax based wood treatment. Her friends should be happy. You will note that one is missing a lid. Sunday bootfair it was on the list of stuff to find, a lid. Sunday bootfair was minimal, possibly 15% of its usual size, due to threatening rain. I only got to spend £2.20 20p for a broken sugar bowl, which donated its lid for box no 3 And £1.00 each for a bag of steel wire staples, and yes, we still use them. Also a bag of random sized split pins for £1.00 which was great, gain as our older cars, especially American stuff, still uses split pins. Happy with the result of the 20p lid.

Part 2 Monday. Up early, off to the bootfair on my own. Allowed me to stop and speak to sellers for 10 minutes at a time. Loads of allsorts. Mostly old fashioned bootfair prices. Three glasses and three shot glasses £1.00 per set 80’s pin frame 50p Skull 50p Toy cars, 50p each, except for auburn £1.00 and tiny fire engine and old yellow truck 20p each Old fashioned brace auger £1.00 kinked spanner 50p and vice grip £1.00 for Craig. Dragon 20p Tiny piggy bank Free Love these. 50p skull. And then this lot Cushion for my chair £1.00 Superhero mug 20p Jack Daniels mug 50p Bracelet 50p Small box for sally 50p Fedora hat new £1.00 Lambswool Dunns cap £1.00 Two limited edition plates for 50p Depression era Strawberry glass gravy boat £3.00 for Dennis’s Debbie who collects it. New knee and elbow protectors for Harry 20p Mammut mat 50p So that was Mondays public holiday bootfair. Bringing to an end a great weekend. Sally cooked dinner. That's not an Auburn, it's a 1937 Cord 810. I have the same model

One for Craig, along with the Coke trucks and a small beach buggy. He is a VW aircooled and Coke guy of course. A nice carved wooden cat for mate Kevins new courtyard garden And for myself a set of license plates for my collection. No idea where they are from. So total haul included. Wooden picture frame, unused £1.00 Wooden blue star £1.00 Wooden carved cat £2.50 60’s Beach Buggy £4.00 Three toy cars £1.00 4 teapots, to be used as Blue Tit nests £1.00 each vintage Porcelain bathroom light pull £3.00 License plates £2.00 of both. Three Poppy scarves unused, for £1.00 Half a box of gutter bolts for a cart iron bench build £2.50 The rest of today was spent clearing out the carport, followed by sorting out Mickeys and my communal lumber into size, type and length, clearing the shared alleyway about 80% There are still two pallets worth of aerated breeze blocks that we need to find a new home for in the alleyway though. Once done, I want to build some decent shelving and support doe all the wood to be stored, giving me back the carport for the Rezin Rockit build. Decent weekend, almost over.

Neither of my local sales was massive, but I got a 4' Rabone ruler which might be useful for something. It used to have a couple of bubbles in it to make it a spirit level, but they've gone missing somewhere.

Up at 05.00 (old age, sore body, restless mind) showered, shaved, mug of tea, quick scan of internet etc. Down at the bootfair by 6.15 and field was already full, with the line down the side of the exit route being filled with vendors. Actually not a lot for me, but still had a nice few hours and home before 09.00 for brekkie. Total haul. Smalls. Glazed plant pot £2.00 3/4 of 12 liter fence paint £3.00 and a nice chat. Firemans helmet, unused, with working speaker £1.00 Another teapot £1.00 Aluminium drain downpipe corner and a gate slider £2.00 King Dick 50p Metal sign 50p for shed. 4x VW Beetle/Baja’s £1.00 Union Jack Mini - Free Small tools all for £2.00 from nice seller with teapot. Includes Oil filter chain spanner, vintage pliers, multi-tool for closed boxes, two very flat spanners, two beautiful vintage drill bits, rawlplug tool (punch) 3 micro drillbits, 2x tyre pressure gauges. So that was the haul, not big but nice to be out and the fence paint alone makes up for the rest.

I got a bit of a selection bag this morning. First, a bin bag full of model railway buildings and a few bits of track for £3. This looks like it might have formed quite a big station at some point (there are other bits of platform that wouldn't fit on the cupboard top for the photo) and I wonder what happened to the rest of it. Bottom left was a set of magnetic socket adapters for £1 which might come in handy (stick them in the bottom of the sockets and they'll hold the fastener in place) and an old Britool 1/2" ratchet for 50p that needs a rebuild. It's the same one as I've already got (and therefore don't need) but that one came apart and cleaned up quite nicely.
