Thanks to the rhythm my job has imparted to me, but mostly thanks to Grizz and thid thread most weekends before my back throwing its toys out the pram and lockdown, I've taken to visiting my local car boot whilst waiting for people to become available on a sunday morning. Ive had a couple of good tool finds, taps if any wants any whitworth taps pm me, eclipse wore strippers, various Bacho nut fu£ers best of which was dipped in emulsion paint for 1 pound. Last time I went I picked up a bag of angle poise lamps for 6 quid, 6 in total 3 went in the bin less springs 2 have snapped lamp head supports(projects for when my lathe is closer to being done) and this beauty. Which was absolutely minging inside the shade was just as bad But after a strip and clean came out really nice. Dan

Passed a sign the other day suggesting that one of my local boot sales starts up again from April 18th.

Found a lovely stall at the sale yesterday - when I first passed it was "3 items for a pound", by the time I got back it was "get a box or bag, fill it with as much as you can for a pound", and then it became "everything free, just take it". Got a nice little G-clamp, a handy plastic box which will be useful in the shed, and a lot of other stuff that either doesn't work or won't be any use.
And to think I'm trying to get rid of stuff, not get more.

Not a buy, but a swap. A swap for a chipboard unit. Yup. I'm sure its Oak, its just over 4ft tall, is so heavy that its an effort just to tip it forward, and the wood in the bottom of the draws is as thick as the sides, about 1/2in thick. Also has handles on it that look like they are fresh from the blacksmiths. It also has a crack in the rear panel (also 1/2in thick) and the crack itself is just over 1/2in wide. As much as I like my old furniture, I'm not very good at ageing stuff thats over 100 ish years old. I'm pretty sure its over 100 years old, but looking online would suggest its much older than that. This is what the end of the draws looks like Plans are to clean it up and tidy it up. And find out how old it is, unless of course I'm barking up the wrong tree and its a newer build made to look old, but I'm pretty sure thats unlikley.

It's not Oak though, I'd say pine, maybe pitch pine.

My first Bootfair of the year was good. Spent a total of £31.00 of which £17.00 was for thee kingsize and double bed sheets that were £11.00 vs £39.00 RRP and two Kids T-shirts with colouring pens that wash out for £6.00 for the pair. Then some plants, 3 vintage toy racing cars for my cabinet. A large Yale lock with two keys for £2.00 a long chain for 50p to tie my trailer down at Uncle Bobs. A flag flr 50p , a mug for 20p, Harry Pothead luggage tag for 20p some Bayliss and Harding bubble for the main bathroom , and two teapots to be converted into Blue Tit houses for 20p and 50p Maybe my favourite, was an unused pair of Halcyon bike rider aviator style goggles for £3.00 (go check out what they actually cost) .

My free bag of stuff last week included a Kindle which appeared to be no good, until I found out how to reset it - I tried holding the power button for 10s as that often resets stuff, but turns out that 40s is the time on these. Now all I have to do is re-register it to me (hoping it isn't of dodgy provenance) and put some stuff on it. Thinking it might be nice to try to get key car-related information onto it to save having to lug a laptop to the shed and back.
I also got quite a nice small Maglite which someone has robbed the bulb from. And I can't get the end off to put new batteries in. Apart from that it's a nice looking torch.
Nothing special yesterday, just a few books for a quid.

Picked this up for £2 this morning, along with a couple of books including one called "Vulcan Test Pilot" by Tony Blackman, which sounds interesting. I'm sure the gauge will be handy for something.I only remembered I'd bought this when I came in to post last week and saw it at the top of the page. I've just replaced my mechanical fuel pump with an electric one and a pressure regulator, and was thinking I'd need to do a bit of experimenting to get the pressure correct. Totally forgotten that I have something to measure it with.

Bootfair today was hard work, my back really was not happy, and halfway through I walked back to the car with the stuff I had bought and actually sat in the car for about 7 minutes to wait for the sciatica or whatever, to release and then did the rest of the field. Photo lies, it was really busy. Short video below for the Americans. CLICK LINK. I only made two purchases. A bag full of used and new pan]t and papering brushes for £5.00 I know what some peoples first and second responses are.. The used large ones are actually cleaned very well and I checked them all. Secondly, for me to pack away tools and work, close shop, and drive between 5 and 16 kilometres (3 to 10 miles) in my car, for even one brush, would actually cost me more than the £5.00 paid for the lot, and once I have used the brush, it would look the same after I washed and cleaned it. And then 4 rolls of Ducktape for £7.00 the seller actually gave me £4.00 in change back but the honest guy in me (he is a real idiot) told the seller and gave a £1.00 back. Again, cheap enough and my last roll is almost finished. Next up, I am off to the garage to use one of my new brushes to paint the first coat on the sandpit/table. Weather looks OK today.

Both local sales were cancelled today, presumably because of the rain that lasted well into last night. Pity, it was OK today but I guess they need to let people know in advance. This was another thing in my free bag of stuff from a couple of weeks ago. If I can muster enough batteries (4xAA in the car, 3xAAA in the controller) I'll try it out. It's nothing special, only goes around corners if you lift it up and set the steering to do so. But it was free.

I got one or two bits this morning. I did find a label-maker, the kind where you press the character through a coloured vinyl tape. The chap said he didn't realise he'd got it, but still wanted £15 (as it had loads of tape with it) but I left it - I have a more modern one that I hardly use, so it wasn't worth it. I did drop on a couple of 1/2" drive six-sided sockets for £1 each - as I do more work on my "modern" I find a need for these. And an Epson flatbed scanner with a transparency adaptor suitable for larger-size negative (120, I think) which will be handy for a while, that was also £1.
Both sales I went to were very busy, a bit too busy really considering how little I got. One of them is on tomorrow, but I'm going to a car show so I probably won't go.

So, what’s £2.00 buy at a bootfair? Unopened, like new. Or one of these. Dirty, used. Cleaned up a bit. And for £5.00 this vintage piece was not cheap, but at £4.00 I bought it. 1965 vintage. Great to add to my collection. Makers mark. Like New, unused Aluminium rear wing….. Anyone got any idea what they would cost to buy ? I thought a good addition for the Rezin Rockit, keeping in mind it is all tongue in cheek, and I have yet to figure just where to mount it. And the last was a few real thick, super sized American T-shirts, two for Paul Y and one for me. Again, at £5.00 each, too good to walk away from. My favourite piece today? Certainly the ally rear wing for the Rezin Rockit.

Not much for me, another three 1/2" drive six-sided sockets for my collection, and a 5kg reel of MIG wire for a fiver, just after I'd paid £2 for a little reel. Oh well, it'll get used at some point.
