Well, I finally got round to getting these to HoTWire - thanks for putting them up... If you haven't seen the newsletter yet, here's a sample: Capesthorne Hall Classic Car show, 2003(!) www.retro-rides.com/gallery.asp?folder=48

That's not fair...we went to Wolfsburg, but only visited the Autostadt museum! It wasn't obvious anywhere in the Autostadt that there was a museum elsewhere... It was only that we knew about it that we managed to go. You go to the main reception area in the Autostadt and book tickets, I couldn't see signs or reference to it anywhere - almost as if they don't want you to know about it. Then a minibus comes and picks you up, drives you across Wolfsburg and drops you off in a manky looking industrial estate, in the back of nowhere... The museum is absolutely fascinating!

It's EVEN better when the cleaner lets you poke round a 'secret' room ;D

Many thanks for sharing some great pics! When I saw this, I thought that it would have a normal KG front end... However, fortunately VW had more taste: To me, it looks like a combination of a normal KG and a 911 - either way, it's very nice!! I love this: Can anyone tell me what this is? I'm figuring that it's a VW (!!), but all I can identify is that the upper rear lights are off a Jag XK...

Yeah, I've no idea what that is either! I thought it might be a Rometsch or other coachbuilt oddity...

Wow I feel like I've just had a Ferrero Rocher. You really are spoiling us! The VW Museum looks absolutely amazing, think I know where my next trip abroad is gonna be.

I went round the museum (about 12 years ago) well before the AutoStadt was built. It think it was in DeiselStrasse (sp?) then. I wonder if it's the same place? What's this about a cleaner's cupboard ?!?

What's this about a cleaner's cupboard ?!? Yeah, it's in the same place. Rainking and I (and our other halves) were walking around the museum, when we spied an open door - a woman was cleaning the floors and had left the door open so she could get to the sink and stuff. RK and I had a quick peep through but figured we shouldn't wander through. The cleaning lady saw us, and told us we weren't supposed to go in, in very broken english. When she realised where we were from and stuff, she made "SSHHHH!!" gestures and said we could walk through for a couple of minutes, so long as no-one knew ;D It was full of stuff that was undergoing restoration, or back from being out on loan, future exhibits, that kind of thing - mostly under wraps. Like that unidentified bare-metal car above. Like kids in a sweet shop RK and I ran round going "wow look at THAT" and stuff in hushed tones, I grabbed a couple of snaps and we sneaked back out - much to the cleaning lady's relief

MdR - I seem to remember DieselStrasse, so sounds like it's still in the same place... looks like a scruffy industrial estate.... ;D

The 4 door Beetle was a period taxi conversion carried out (I think) by Reutter Coachworks. I saw one at Bad Camberg last year, 'tis very cool
