Ok Gents. Excuse my naivety but how does this work? Does the flex lift the rubber away from the body so you can paint underneath? The challenge I face is that the rear window rubber is absolutely rock hard. The front screen is actually very pliable as it was replaced when the new screen was put in. My worry with forcing the rear screen rubber away from the body is that it will tear. Mind you, at that point the window is coming out anyway so... I am not a fan of painting stuff or body work in general.... Now, where did I put my hammer.... P.

Just had a thought. Is there anyway to ‘feed’ the rubber to give it back some flexibility? P.

Hmmmmmmm…
A new rubber may be the only avenue.
Or else very close and tidy masking.

Also, would gentle heating of the rubber make it more pliable?

westbay its not about the cubic $$$$$ - the strip is around $20 - it is the possibility of breaking the glass and even more scope creep. I know I am probably going to take the rear screen out but really don't want too. Bloody cars.... P.

If you cut the petrified seal, the only real risk of breaking the glass is from dropping it. See my F100 thread for how bad it looks if you try to mask the seal...

If the seal is hard it will leak as well, as above cut it away with a sharp knife (making sure you have someone on the other side to catch it) then lift the glass out, clean it all up carry out any painting and the it then only takes a couple of minutes to pop it back in with a length or para cord.

Just went out and bought a new pack of blades for my knife. It's either the wrists or the window. Stay tuned..... P.

First option sounds messy...Best go with option 2. I worried doing the glass on the LR but it was OK even with a tool being needed to get the bead in. Good luck, progress is good ! James

I'm told that the old way to revitalise rubber seals is to wipe them with glycerine, I've seen it done but I cannot vouch for it's longevity, but it worked a treat on the rubber in old fashioned metal/ suction tax disc holders.

Reasonable amounts of progress grizz but I am sure most will be bored with my pictures of blasting painting and rubbing down... Be patient and I am sure that I will cobble something together over the Christmas break. As for the above....YES! Now don't forget it will need a Turbo LS whilst you are still allowed to do burnouts for distance.... P.

My worst worry about dying is my wife selling my stuff for what I told her it cost...
