If I was an auto guy I would have it on the rear as it allows you to modulate the release of pressure. But! As I am a 3 pedal MAN its going on the front otherwise not a huge point as you would still be juggling 3 pedals. Talking of which I was seriously looking at a TH350 so that I could be driving again but just cant bring myself to go auto so looks like I am just going to use the sm420 that came with Woody to get him out and about cant bear the thought of being without a driving vehicle again and, having come this far, would be a complete waste. Have ordered the flywheel and clutch and will create a hydraulic set up so when I do get the gearbox I want it will be ready to go. Just waiting for my money tree to bloom so I can buy a T56.... P.

Mega stuff!
Well I will keep my eyes out for a T56 for you.
The newer TKO boxes seem pretty stout too, but there likely isn't a lot of difference in the ££££ these days.

what's the issue with the SM420, is it the short first? Can't imagine you are going to need more than 4 gears with the torque from that engine anyway.

It’s bloody awful kevins! Granny first gear, huge gap between 2 and 3rd just not a nice thing to use and mine is a really good example! Plus! 4.10 gears and and and and…. It will do however until my money tree starts to bear fruit, all part of the staged approach to having a running vehicle rather than an ornament…. P.

The price difference between the 2 is now only a few hundred $ but would still go for a T56 simply because I ‘say’ that 550-600 wheel will be fine but ‘know’ that the lure of a few extra lb’s of boost will be too hard to resist…. Plus. 6 speed. P.

I have bribed my good friend Jay the Spring Slasher with Brisket based Chilli in exchange for him standing behind me whilst I apply paint to Woodys underside. Be prepared for either abject fail or soaring victory! P.

So dear reader did my epic chilli allow the creative juices to flow? Yes, Yes I think they did. Let me preface this diatribe by making a confession. Painting scares me. Yes, I know, hard to believe but the thought of making a right royal cock up and having to strip something back to bare metal again fills me with dread. Which is why my good pal Jay the Spring Slasher offered to stand behind me to make sure that if it all did go a bit Pete Tong he would be on hand to advise and correct. Without further ado then lets open up the special mix paint and see how close it is to the panel I took as a sample. Ahh..... Lets hope it looks a little better when on a panel.... First job was to do a bit of masking. Followed by loading the gun with Epoxy... Quickly resulting in Jay making sure the gun was set up properly. Before I was allowed to take over the reins resulting in this. Not too bad, a few sags but nothing that couldn't be easily fixed, and a little confidence booster. A second coat was quickly applied before turning the heater to full and retreating to the kitchen for Chilli, home made Guacamole and Salsa all washed down with a few bottle of Corona. Lovely. An hour later everything had flashed off enough to mix up the Raptor, tint it with the GREEN and, deep breath, see how bad it actually was. Paint, paint. Spray, spray. Two coats later. well it is definitely GREEN! But actually it is a pretty close match to the panels that have been hiding from the Californian sun for the past 50 years. As we were cleaning up I stuck a bit of thinners on a rag and wiped the door over as they were very badly sprayed to reveal.... It was late by this time but was up early this morning as got all excited at the though there might be some genuine old fashioned sign writing on the doors but..... That will be a no then. However it is much better than before so I am still counting that as a win! For a comparison, the drivers door. With that I have family duties to attend to so tune in again next week when I will be putting some paint on the fire wall. What could possibly go wrong... Until then. ONWARDS!!!! P.

Mid week progress? Why not I say! With the floor done it was now time to spray the GREEN! onto the firewall. First things first, a quick going over of the epoxy to get rid of the orange peel. Didn't do too bad a job of that, quite pleased. A quick mask up using the plastic film rather than the paper - a much better system. And then time to load the gun up with the GREEN! Yup, still looks like Kermit. After careful consultation with my mentor it was decided that he would be in charge of the gun for this evenings activities so, without further ado.... Paint, paint. Spray, spray.... And the end result. Pretty pleased with that. Had a slight problem with my big heater which decided to pack up halfway through the process resulting in a small run but hopefully that will be covered by the engine. Either way this has given me a big boost to move onto the next part of the build, painting the interior. With only 54 days to go until my date with destiny I better get my finger out. Until the next time. ONWARDS! P.

As I am still child like in my excitement over splashing a bit of paint on Woody I popped into the garage this morning to check the colour match. I would say that is pretty good. grizz interior is going to be the original fawn and silver gold. Paint ordered so as soon as I get Woody back on his feet will start to strip the interior and get prepped for paint. Feel rather pleased to say the least.... P.

Which is why my good pal Jay the Spring Slasher offered to stand behind me to make sure that if it all did go a bit Pete Tong he would be on hand to advise and correct. A great quote from a mate - Given a bit of practice anyone can paint to a reasonable standard, it's the ability to bring things back when things start to hit the fan that takes the skill! I enjoyed reading this from the start, great to see things are back on track and good luck with the deadline.

How have I not seen this thread before? Going to have to go back to the start & read it all now As Paul said above - no mask?? If so that's really stupid if it's 2K (or any other paint really).

Right.... Could do with a little help from the more sharp eyed members of the forum. This is a picture of Woodys roof. Its looking a bit sorry for its self so I am going to make some repairs and apply paint in a more uniform manner. As you can probably make out there are numbers - very faintly - painted on the roof which I am going to duplicate after the repairs. Question is, what do you think the numbers are? It looks to me as if the one on the passenger side is possibly a 7 and the one on the drivers side a 2 but really not sure. Have tried gun wash to try and get the emulsion off but without making much of an impact. My thinking is that if you lots can identify a mystery car from a dodgy old picture you can probably work out what it says on the roof! Any assistance appreciated. P.
