Building a fast 16v Allegro (now going fully forged turbo)

Arm Ache! Who needs step ladders when you have piles of wheels.

So then, what to make out of this ?

I'm thinking more going down the 16v route and happen to be quite well versed in the K series now, turbo wise I think space will be a major issue and frontal space for coolers.

I know it's been done to death but seeing as I already have a madish track focused turbo car, a nice usable itb'd K series would be good in it, they seem to be fetching good money now as well, mostly the gearbox I guess!

Trouble with the mx5 is that the steering column of the midget wants the same space as the inlet?
I did buy an mx5 a while back to have a look and decided thats why they are more popular in the US, along with the k series being rare?

rx8 gearbox is possible but would mean a lot of tunnel mods I think?

I did have a type 9 box in the garage a couple of years ago, and a bell housing, exhaust manifold too
The midget I had at the time was a right rotter though so project didn't go ahead

So whats next?

Well it will be at the NEC classic on the Allegro club stand this November

I'm under strict instruction not to blow it up before then!


So early next year I plan to have it back to the dyno and have to running around the 350hp mark with some wastegate control.

To get ready for that I have added an AEM400L pump along side the current 044 copy from china, that's giving me near 4.8bar of fuel pressure at idle over the 044's 3.1. The reg is a bocsh none adjustable 3.5 bar, that is oem in things like bmw x5. This was fine but looks like the AEM is overwhelming it, so I need to do something there if I don't want hot fuel and explodey fuel rail on boost.

The next thing I want to look at is driveshafts, as I'm currently on mgf shafts that are not equal length. This block has the mounting point for a carrier bearing, here is an mg6 shaft with it fitted. So custom shafts, probably in en24 with a carrier bearing. I'll get saving up!


 

I'm only actually running one pump at a time, they are plumbed in parallel so I can use either. My first plan was to run two 044 copy pumps all the time, as the first one had been good for years. but efi Warrington said one is a much better way, I'd already fitted the second pump, an 044 copy but it was noisy so I pulled that back out and fitted the aem400 there.

Just running the aem400 gives me the same pressure that running both 044 copy's did so it certainly moves some fuel!

But now I could do with a reg that can handle it. Space is an issue and my bosch reg holder is super neat so wanting a reg to go in that really.
