Started poking around a few areas on the Amazon today, & found a few more icky bits - oh bo11ocks!!!! The corner where the rear inner arch, rear seat pan & sill meets is a tad crispy. To make matters worse, this is right next to where the lower seatbelt mounts are too Offside is worse than the nearside (daylight : so need to go & have a chat with my welder ASAP. However I am already skint Also been playing around with the carbs (many thanks to Harvey on the VOC for taking the time to show me what to do) as it runs a bit rough between 80 & 90 since the needles were changed back to the standard ones. Due to issues with the linkage, we had trouble getting them to open at the same time, but hopefully it's now sorted out. when I got home, I also tweaked the idles to get the carbs to open as simultaneously as I could - just need a motorway blast to test it out now. However on a more positive note, following a trip to Kent, I now have now accumulated enough good sections to make a decent front bumper

Next time you get under the car, wear some big dark glasses, and don't touch anything, you`ll probably find its not as bad as you thought.

Next time you get under the car, wear some big dark glasses, and don't touch anything, you`ll probably find its not as bad as you thought. The problem is that I think I can see / feel the belt mount moving when I pull on it I don't dare yank too hard incase it rips out... Noooooo!!! You cant change that front bumper. Next you will be talking about replacing the front number plate New front bumper! next you'll be tellin' us your getting rid of the wings with the duct tape! ;D Hope you get the holes all sorted out soon, obviously not an mot point then? That bumper is in far, far worse shape than it looks - the nearside outer mount point on the bumper itself is severely corroded & the offside went AWOL a while ago, hence the tape on the bumper over the jagged hole (the twist is unrelated, as that happened when it was still intact). The new bumper will be very presentable as it should polish up well, but is far from perfect (except in a photo ) so will still be fine with the 'plate, which just needed a clean for the MOT ;D. The wings are staying put too, however they are about to be stuffed with filler around the lights & touched in with a rattle can as under the tape is completely fubared & I'd like them to last a few more years. IMHO the rot should have been an MOT issue, but I can only assume that the tester didn't notice. Either way, it needs dealing with as I'd like the seatbelts (esp passengers' ones) to be able to do their job properly if required.... Managed to replicate the rough running syptoms at much lower speeds by staying in 2nd gear (long after I usually change up but not over revving though), & it's still there. I don't have a tacho, but based on the gearing for o/d 4th, it seems to be happening at around 4K. Looks like the carb cross bar linkage definately needs to be fixed (since it causes the aft carb to open later than the fwd one) if I'm going to get this all sorted out properly. Harvey could get it balanced nicely at idle, but with throttle applied the airflow was way out of sync. However it had been fine before (smooth throughout the rev range) on the same needles & the carb linkage has been like that for a while. Oh well......

Update This is what it looks like from inside the wheelarch: And inside, after Seth & I prodded it with a screw driver : The protruding tube on the vertical panel next to the door aperture is the rear seatbelt lower mount...... This is the worse (off)side, & the nearside isn't anywhere near as far gone. However the structure in that corner isn't as complex as I originally thought, so hopefully it shouldn't be that tricky (or expensive) to have repaired. Gaffa tape will be applied later today to keep the crud out of the structure & interior for the meantime as I need the car for the next few weeks as I'm moving house later this month. After that, it will be off to the welder to have both sides dealt with.
