Great to see this getting a full work over, I'd like to get some of my old cars back and undo some of the damage done to them Namely my old Micra's Look forward to seeing this back to it's former glory I know what you mean. When you sell a car the new owner has every right to do as they wish to it but when they have no idea it makes me think they don't deserve such a car. This one was really tidy when I sold it. It looked just as good in the metal as it did in the pics. When I sold it the mk2s where still cheap compared to now so much so that i paid £300 less than I sold it for!

They are 13x6 XR2 steels without the wheel trims and 175/50/13 tyres. I need those steels on my xr2, look better than my pepper pots. They do look better than pots I think. I like a nice XR2 on wheels trims over an alloy wheel version.

Done a bit more today but first up I had a delivery this morning of these NOS centre caps off ebay. First up got the inner wing patched up, not really going to see much of it once the tray goes in, I am still waiting for the tray to come in at my local factors. My mate Jim done the front arch. What a legend all the arches are now flare free. Got a few more pics of the other repairs this side with the rust treatment cleaned off. Front arch repair Rear arch Sill Inner wing has been ground back now so ready for primer and sealer. I am getting to the point where the prep work is going to start, I am undecided weather to respray the bottom half myself or prep the whole thing doors off etc and get a pro to paint the lot in a booth. In the past I have sprayed for a living although not cars I can do a half decent job but if it was in a booth it would come out to a better standard. Something to mull over for the next few weeks.

I did all the preparation myself and got a bodyshop to spray it in a booth.
I used green ti hi build primer, then flatted off, then repeated the process with wet/dry the 2nd time.
Saves on the cost and you will do the job better with passion and pride, unlike a bodyshop.

Yes I agree that it would be better sprayed in a booth and the finish and overall apperance would be better too, it is just the hasstle of getting to the body shop and back that puts me off. I favour masking them up before I take them so they can just roll them in the booth and paint it. This also rules out overspray which is a pet hate of mine and something body shops seem to have very little time for especially when it's a self prep. Got a couple more pics. I ended up doing a repair on the drivers floor, it was a fit soft so thought I would sort it now rather than later. Got a coat of etch primer on the inner wing repair and seam sealed it so I am ready for the tray which I hope will be in stock tomorrow. Also got a coat of etch on the drivers inner wing so ready for sealer here.

Well I have been let down with my battery tray and apparently magnum the only people that make them are out of stock even though they were showing stock on there computer (I ordered from a local factors that deal with them direct) when I ordered. It now looks like I will have to wait for the next batch to be made if I don't find one by some other means. So I need a battery tray as that is all I need now to finish the welding, anyone know of somewhere that may keep one in stock? Or anyone got one lying about?

These are very rare now Phil, seen them going for £80 for a nos one. There only spotted on, so people will sell there's from a scrap vehicle, this is your best bet. Join the mk1/2 fiesta facebook pages, lots being broken over here, every little part available. Failing that, join www.xrtwo.com, good chance on there too. Lots of people are relocating the battery to the boot these days. Going to pickup some XR2 steels tonight

It was suggested that a mk2 escort one is a decent fit but have yet to see a pic of one fitted? Nice one on the steels I have got all my centre caps now and got some xr2 wheels trims on there way hopefully so may go that route. I have just been a picked up a pair of tyres for it too.

Another project ? Looks pretty good, I've always had a soft spot for mk2 fiestas. I'm still getting the itch for another ford but at the moment still ain't got a garage. Will be good to see it coming along and also finished.

I am crazy really taking on another one, I could have got the Mini finished this year instead of doing this but I couldn't pass on it. Its been 10 years+ since I had a retro daily so carn't wait to get this finished.

You will be needing a garage if your thinking of buying a mini they made them out of sugar paper and they don't like water. Buy a good one though and they are great experience and are only going up in value. I have had about 10 over the years. I would rather drive a Leon Cupra r than a mondeo 100%. I carn't fault my mondeo I have done 50,000miles in it without a problem but they are very normal. I always promised myself a cossie from when I was about 16 but it took a bit longer than I had planned, I think its great. It attracts lots of attention which is good and bad though.

Started a thread on the Facebook page for you about this tray. Getting harder to find now, the mk1/2 escort ones use the same clamp but that's about it. A mk3 escort tray is £18 on ebay brand new, these use the same support mounts as a fiesta and is practically the same tray, just a little bigger. Hopefully this helps.

Sorry for the delayed response but I have been away to Disneyland and for some reason I cannot sign in to this forum from my mobile and when I try and change my password it says my user name does not exist and the same with my email. I am still no closer to finding a proper tray so any help would be brilliant. I have a universal one in stock which will go in if I don't find one soon. The fit isn't brilliant but it would work if other options run out.

I had a couple of hours on it this afternoon and managed to remove the tired shocks that offer no resistance when compressed by hand. The springs seem to be ok and should go again, I was concerned that they had been cut but thankfully they are intact. I could do with some new top mout bearings for the fronts aswell as some dust covers. I have messaged a guy on ebay about some bearings to see if they are for a fiesta as the listing is very good at not telling you what they fit. Before I went on holiday I collected a pair of 175/50/13 Nankang tyres off a local chap via ebay that were as new as he had only used them to set his suspension up then ditched them in favour of Yokos. Why he didn't just buy the Yokos in the first place is beyond me but at £50 his loss is my gain. I had them fitted to 2 of the wheels but unfortunatly 1 of them is losing pressure fast via the rim which we think is a failed spotweld. I hope we will be able to fix it with the welder as finding a spare is going to be worse than finding a battery tray. The other 2 wheels hold air fine and have legal tread but they are the tyres I fitted back in 2008 and the walls are cracking, so need another 2 really but I will see how the repair goes on the bad one before I spend anymore on them as I may have to buy a set of alternative wheels. Before I had discovered the bad wheel I had scored a set of wheel trims off ebay that need a paint so may go this route if the wheel repair goes ok. The powder coating on the wheels is not bad after 7 years but is far from brilliant and there were a few dings in the rims off the previous owner which I have straightend out but has affected the powder coating. I could get then redone but as I will be using it daily they will do as they are and if I paint the trims and fit them they will be respectable enough.
