So there is no interest in this unless its a 5 min catch up in a coffee break in work? That's a tad dismissive, he said in the nicest possible way, so please don't take offence If you remember back to when most of the UK was on dial-up with selected places coming online with fibre optic, well that's how we are here. My internet connection is via a prepaid SIM card in a router, so is at the mercy of the telcos signal strength. Whilst I can normally get pictures, YouTube and other videos can be very hit and miss, so although I'd love to watch you doing a track day, it's not always possible. Keep up with the videos, they're great when I can watch them, but just a couple of pics and text can fill in the gaps. The brake upgrade being a case in point, A few photos and a little description, and I'm up to date!

It would be nice to have some text + photos rather than videos. I can't watch videos on my PC at work which is how I access this site most of the time, I know others have the same issue on here too. So there is no interest in this unless its a 5 min catch up in a coffee break in work? Why, is that a problem?

Absolutely not. You do you bud, and I'll do me.
I get some folks prefer to pass by and have a wee catch up. Just bear in mind the vids take a lot (and i mean a LOT) of effort in filming and edit. Give it a wee view and see if its worth a look first rather than just looking for the pictures.
I take your point on board though. Ill beef up the picture content in time as there will be a lot more building coming soon.

I don't watch many embeded videos on forums as a general rule but in the absence of other content I do watch some - I'm absolutely sure they take a lot of time to edit and then upload to host but they leave me a bit whelmed to be honest - it's probably just me.......
I love your car and I'm looking forward to snail related updates and if you can balance the content between vlogging and blogging I'm sure I'll enjoy it all but I do tend to prefer the blogging approach as I just find I enjoy it more.

I don't watch many embeded videos on forums as a general rule /// I do tend to prefer the blogging approach as I just find I enjoy it more. Me too. So there is no interest in this unless its a 5 min catch up in a coffee break in work? Well, for me, I'd say absolutely yes to that... but if you enjoy making the vids then what does it matter what other people think? As long as you don't get upset if people don't seem to be taking as much interest as you'd like considering the effort it takes to make them .. That's when things go a bit wrong, when people get bent out of shape because they don't feel they're getting the recognition they deserve. If you spend three days every month making a TV series about your car and only two people hit the like button, then you're putting yourself at risk of despondency. That's rarely a problem if you've only written an update a dropped a couple of pics in.

I certainly wouldnt say I'm getting bent out of shape, the vids go down very well on other forums. Just surprising that one focused on retro content isnt as good an uptake on them. If i was dependant on getting the likes here i would have packed it in long ago!
It is good to hear the thinking behind why its not as strong a format here as it is elsewhere though. Any feedback is good feedback.

I certainly wouldnt say I'm getting bent out of shape, For clarity I didn't mean YOU were getting bent out of shape, I just meant that sometimes on here people can get a bit upset because they feel they're putting a lot of effort into presenting their car project and not getting enough recognition/accolades for their effort. Then they grumble about it, then get bent out of shape, and then flounce off declaring they aren't going to bother anymore. If you're making the videos in order to use them across different forums, platforms, channels etc then I'm sure it will definitely be worth the effort for you even if the interest/interaction appears to be low in some places. For me personally... a vid is a welcome sight after I've followed a car's progress for a while and it's hit a significant milestone. Then any old rough, unedited video e.g. of the first fire up, the first journey etc is a joyous thing to behold in order to share in the moment. It doesn't need to be polished, it's best when it's human and authentic. Video is better as a highlight format, rather than the dominant form, in my opinion. I think in many ways there is a barrier that goes up between owner/builder/bodger and the viewer with videos if they are the dominant media used to tell the story and are created with polished presentation in mind. Words and pics on a page feel much more relatable They don't take something humdrum and attempt to present it as fascinating and unmissable content. Sometimes when making videos people can assume the content is a lot more interesting than it actually is and it can be like trying to watch Bob Monkhouse present a documentary series about his collection of bow ties. The self-prescribed obligation to produce a polished video once a month can distort reality a little bit. Words and pics invite discourse, encouragement, advice, sympathy.... dialogue. Videos don't seem to do that so much unless they are reserved for the momentous occasions, or for diagnostic help.

Right, onto business. Noisyboy has been pretty good for the last year, all things considered. The megasquirt is in, more or less mapped and running a treat, if a little rich. On the to do list was niggles. Sticky drivers window. Stone ships. Various upgrades only I would notice. Dash bulbs. The sort of thing that a supreme tinkerer might find a bit slow paced. So slow in fact I decided to have a little affair with a "bit on the side", turning this: into this: A welcome distraction, but perhaps I have been guilty of neglect. Cue the yearly "end of summer" run around Scotland. Car packed, hit the road, managed 10 miles before this: Yes, that is the expansion tank I am reaching for. Dry as a bone, and took 4 litres of water over the drive down. Hmm.... The next morning I ran it up to temp and properly burped it. Very little additional coolant required, and the git was good as gold all weekend. So there was me, end of summer, suspecting a head gasket failure. Now, me being me, the rule is never replace, always upgrade. If the heads are off there is a sterling opportunity to stick ARP studs in the mix and strengthen things a bit. Then my mind started to daydream and by pure luck a used Eann Whaley turbo kit came up for sale.... Well, would be rude not to, really. Saturday afternoon and we check the coolant and do the final drive to the Skunkworks, pull the bonnet off and start the stripdown. During said stripdown I discover that the top rad hose has a weep. Umm, wait a minute... that was the whole reason for the stripdown, no? Hey ho, we've started anyway.

Also the tilt in the last photo is because the car is jacked up, not because I am a Batman villain working from a devious lair. Or am i?

John Astin... also known as Gomez Adams.
But are you sure that in your villainy to put a turbo on the TVR, you haven't made the weight balance lopsided, after spending so long on the scales? 😅

Ok, an update.
I have had some "issues" on the second hand turbo purchase. Aside from paying to import it from Norway and HMRC picking a value out thin air which coincidentally makes up the difference so it translates as a new turbo kit... the turbo being so worn that the cartridge was slacker than a hot wheels rear axle... and the "bolt-in kit, no chop required" claim being the largest work of fiction since vows of fidelity were included in the French marriage service... we are making progress.
I have the turbo more or less mounted in position. We are going to have to start chopping things though as essential car bits have been removed to let it fit in place, and its making me a bit apprehensive. Truly we are at a "no turning back" stage, so this weekend will see the power tools unleashed. I actually sat and pondered whether butchering my lovely TVR was all going to be worth it.
Then I weighed it up. A TVR Chimaera or a Turbocharged TVR Chimaera? No debate really.
Pass the grinder....
