They do look good on a banded steel. Keeping them silver for super sneaky factory, or going a bit lairy with them? Originally I was going totally off the wall and having them yellow, I thought about silver but there's not a lot of chrome on the car now it's got it's '80s Mk3 look back so I am thinking gloss black and maybe chrome trim rings just to make them stand out, similar to how my Flying Custard Datsun used to be.

Here's Geoff Taylor's Mk2 Estate with the caps back on, these are 175/65/13 so slightly stretched.

It does look ace on those wheels and tyres. I reckon black wheels, chrome beauty rings and factory hubcabs will look super smart.

Thanks mikeyp247 I reckon there's a good chance of me making two of the Thursday night meetings, the main show falls directly after a night shift so I reckon I'll be a half night hero for that. π

That's awesome vulgalour less doors than mine so much much cooler! ππ This is currently over a my mates place in Burton where it went to have the exhaust welded, this turned out to be the manifold cracked. While it was tthere we had issues with the fuel pump which has now resulted in the rebuilding of both carbs and the installation of an electric fuel pump and regulator, all this is nicely soaking up the money put aside for the wheels. Just when I thought I'd have a classic I could use for the summer, bloody aggro strikes again! ππ At least I've go the Saab to drive now the good weather is here.

I've just fitted one of those very fuel pressure regulators. Make sure the unions are screwed all the way in and a wrap of PTFE tape around the back end of the threads might help too. Took me at least three attempts before it stopped weeping fuel. Spoke to a chap at RR Weekender with one fitted to a Mini (which he threw around the track magnificently) and he had also recently fitted one. He said his occasionally self-adjusts down to 1psi (presumably under vibration) and he finds himself chugging along until he realises thats what it is and re-sets it.
Mine seems to be okay so far but it doesn't feel like a fantastically engineered and manufactured part to me. Casing is nice and sturdy, but dial is loose and turns very easily.

Thanks for the advice @quatermass I'll let you know how it goes, I'm hoping it makes starting a bit easier and feeds the SUs a bit more efficiently. Got a decent space on the inner wing for it to go so it will be easily accessible.

So it turns out after much head scratching and deliberation that these facet pumps don't work when they are higher than the fuel tank so instead of going on the inner wing as was planned originally it's gone underneath behind the tank and the reg has gone on the inner wing. The fuel pump is wired directly to the ignition at the moment but not sure about this tbh so I may fit a separate switch on the dash for it.

Getting on with it then! ignition should be fine as long as suitable fuse fitted. From shonky memory they donβt use much power so a relay not really required. Separate switch would still need to be ignition live for safety but would act as a useful anti theft device if suitably hidden! I think for complete safety you could fit an inertia switch to cut the power if you have a bump- somebody might be able to suggest a donner part no.

Getting there slowly thanks jamesd1972Decided to fit a switch anyway just so I can have the radio on without the engine running. Not experienced any issues with the pump or regulator yet @quatermass in fact it's pulling like a train now and starts on the first turn of the key everytime, this must be a first for pretty much any BL car!

So other odds and sods that needed doing, connected the correct period fog light up even though it's passed the last two MOTs without one, fitted a new horn, the standard horn makes it sound like Noddy is on his way so I've left that in and fitted something a bit beefier on a separate switch. (Yes I know I've used earth cable but needs must when you've got naff all cable to use!). And fitted the correct Mk3 sill covers after giving the sills a good soaking in WD spray. Should be collecting the wheels shod with new 175 tyres tomorrow, just hope the bloody things fit!! π

Came home with a boot load of 175x60xR13s this afternoon. Been a delay in getting the tyres, but a Β£40 a corner it was worth the wait. Chuffed with the result too. After a couple of hours of being fitted I noticed two of the tyres were going down so a quick run round with a paint brush and some soapy water and found they are leaking round the rims, curse word!!! Need to take them off and back to the fitters to be resealed. In other news, a good mate of mine was on holiday in Brixham in South Devon and sent me this picture- My old Datsun Cherry 100a The Flying Custard!! The reason why I joined this great forum in the first place 8 1/2 years ago. Nice to see its still going strong. π Changed a bit since I first bought it.

Wheel figment take #2 So took the three leakers back to the tyre fitters to have them resealed, hopefully this time they will be ok, not putting the hub caps on yet just in case though as they are a pain to remove. All that jacking up and the rear window didn't pop out once! π Rear view gives it a bit more stance, unfortunately can't go any lower with the hydro elastic suspension due to angle of the drive shafts, don't fancy destroying the diff.

Have you checked for pinholes/porosity on the welds from the banding too?
