Just been offered both of these, both need new motors, so what are they worth.
The nova is rare in that it is BONE STOCK, never been modified, and is mint, never welded or anything, but the engine has died, needs a full rebuild, rings gone, bores probably shot too.
The 205 is a black 1989 car, with red interior, was a 1.6 but has had the 1900cc engine and the box changed, but the oil pump siezed and caused a cam belt failure, car has a mongoose full stainless system, and a K&N, fitted with 15" speedlines and lowered 30mm front and rear.
Neither with TAX or MOT, so what are they worth, and should I get yet another toy?

£100 each. Maybe £150 for really good bodywork / originality.
You see people trying to flog stuff like this for £400-£500, but they're really just desperate dreamers....

I'd get the 205 and put an Mi16 in it.

I like long walks, especially when they're taken by people I don't like.

It'd be the 205 for me too. Can't stand Novas... I think its image has been forever tarnished. £100 each all day long. Get yerself a bargain!

NickB's estimations sound about right because of the cost of engine replacement to most people after garage fees would prob be more than each car is worth. The Nova would be an easier project (205s are a bit of a pain to work on partly due to the inclination of the engine) But the Pug is a better car in terms of performance & dynamics and as such, still command high prices for good ones - so it might be worth your while buying the 205 if the bodywork and underpinnings are in good shape?

I agree with iRocco, I always wanted to do a Mi16 conversion on my pug. They are a great handling car and are meant to be awesome with this engine in place. I recommend a rear disc brake conversion whilst your at it pug205gti.tripod.com/id22.html

Well the Nova wasn't a 16v at all, it was a 1.6 8v with burned out piston rings, but the bores seemed really good, as did the rest of the car. The clock says its done 67k from new, and it does look like it too, worryingly. Infact if it was any other retro hatch, other than a Nova I wouldn't even be telling you lot , incase one of you came and got it! The 205, I am sad to report, was a dog, made of filler, and just not worth it. So now the question is, do I or don't I? If you look past the name, and the tarnished image, it is a good car. I also know of a cav SRi 130 engine, and a pair of 40mm weber DCOE's on a cav 8v manifold jetted for the engine and rolling road set up. Hmmm.

Was the Nova still a GTE though? What colour is it?
Several years ago, I was given a lift in a friend of a friend's GTE. That car was seriously quick ;D It was black (which really suited it), with those multi three spoke Vauxhall alloys (ie appropriate to the car). It looked completely stock, but had been hotted up where it counts, rather than being covered in plastic tat.

Oh yeah, it was a pristine white GTE, with GTE steels and 5 spoke hub trims, but he had a set of SR 3 spokes under the bench, so I could possibly blag them too.

Should also mention that it wasn't hotted at all, totally stock, not even lowered, no brow spoilers, splitters, nothing.

The Original Nova GTE was a Giant killer on British Rally champ rounds, seriously quick.... Just stripe it up like the works cars, with a set of White 15" RFX Revolutions...... Retro Rallycar Cool for not a lot of Dosh
