Hellooh. After the MOT is sorted on the Volvo \ shed, I wanted to look possibly into a new steering wheel, as mine is knackered on the top half of the rim making it hard to steer and leaving manky black stains on your hands when the temperature drops. I hate Mota Lita steering wheels. They are fugly. I might try to track down a better original Volvo wheel as they are kitsch tastic (that little sod grantbennett2 beat me to a newer steering wheel the other week). I found the ideal retro - y steering wheel in the form of a Momo Prototipo. I don't know what the hub pattern is for this, but a couple of suppliers I've spoken to said Momo don't do a hub adaptor kit for the Amazon. Aaargh! It wouldn't be impossible to make one fit would it? Could I not adapt another hub kit to fit it? Anyone have any ideas? They look like this BTW:

I got one of them , got a momo hub/boss, but any standard size one will work so look at OMP sparco etc etc will teh boss on your Motalita fit?

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I'd have to check something, but I'm pretty sure Mota Lita do a boss for Amazons, and they also do their bosses to fit momo wheels. If you are interested i can double check, and can sort the boss for you

Keefy, if you could double check that'd be great! I'd love a silver \ black wheel on the 'zon.

Wood rimmed wheels don't really do it for me unless you've got an old British sports car. Was this an official Volvo wheel or something. I read somewhere that Nardi made the 123GT steering wheel, is this right?
I've left an enquiry at Moto Lita, let's see what they come up with.
A smaller diameter wheel'll make my steering heavier, yes?

Woods not for me either. I used to have a moto lita but i didnt like the look of the big chunky boss so i sold it on, ive got a grant one that I'm going to see if someone can modify the boss to fir the Amazon
As for steering it will get a bet heavier with a smaller wheel when parking but I'm not going to worry about that, need the work out ;D

Sounds like the plastic is degrading. You can get an Amazon specific leather rim cover which fits well & should solve the problem - ask Wellshj on the VOC forum about these as he's just fitted one.
As for the wheel you choose, I would think twice before fitting a smaller one, as the steering is heavy enough at parking speeds! However I live in central London, so often have to park in a space that's only 2' longer than the car. Also I rather like the original type that was fitted up to about '68, as they are very funky & match the dashboard style well, but I guess it depends on what you want to do with the rest of the car - a more sporty wheel would look great with a Ruddspeed style instrument pack ;D

Paul,
I really like the standard wheel on my Amazon.
However I keep getting covered in gunk and blisters every time I drive it (well, the last time I drove it was in December)
I love the Prototipo and thought it might be a fair compromise whilst I found a better reconn'd wheel. (I don't like Moto Litas, it has to be said).
Update on the boss \ wheel situation.
I sent ML an e mail and got a very terse reply, something like 'We only supply boss kits for ML wheels and not MOMO'.
Might try sending MOMO UK an e mail and see how I get on....
Any answers \ solutions for me Keefy?
