I've seen a pale blue Riley Kestrel knocking about here over the past week or so, sadly not like this one but it looks pretty mint anyway: Now back when I was a Mini-obsessive, I always fancied a 1300 as a sort of grown-up progression of the Issigonis ideal. Seeing this one around has got me thinking again. They are the same A-Series as the Mini, right? Gears in the sump? So you can take them out to 1380+ cc and all that? Has anyone ever stuck a K-Series in one? I bet there's more room under that bonnet than there is in a Mini! Hmmm....

More than likely you could get a K series in there. Even easier would be a K series Landcrab! There's an immaculate gold Morris 1800 in my town.

Damn... I'm going back ten years to when I was at uni and I really wanted an orange 1300 GT with black vinyl roof and a bigger engine... K-series transplant, lowered, widened steelies or Rostyles... Hmmm... I spose finding a tidy rot-free ADO15 would be tricky these days...

I don't understand why more people haven't done performance versions of the 1100 / 1300 variants? Versions I'd loke to see would be: 1300GT with a 1380 for that extra bit of go. Or how about a 1275 turbo version of a Vanden Plas? Or maybe best of all would be a stock looking 1100 with a tuned K-series.... There must be a reason why no-one ahs done these...

I think the main reason is that there are none left, they all dropped their rear subframes over a hump back bridge years ago. I live in old people central on the south coast, and I can't remember tha last time I saw a basic 1100/1300, let alone a 1300GT , which I love as well I used to have a Vanden Plas 1100, what a laugh, rotten as hell, but great fun on the twisty bits, and all that lovely leather and wood...Hmmmmm! How about a VTEC powered Vandan Plas Ian

I don't believe it! you guys must be reading my mind. i was considering this after seeing a good GT and a tidy VDP on Ebay last week.
A company called Watson of Wakefield source and fit B16 and B18 Honda engines in to Minis and I figured it wouldn't be too difficult to adapt their custom subframe to fit the wider body.
The big problem is the Hydro suspension but this could be replaced with a good coil over setup.
Itd have to look standard though for maximum effect.

Damn... I'm going back ten years to when I was at uni and I really wanted an orange 1300 GT with black vinyl roof Sounds like the Morris 1300GT one my Dad had in the mid Seventies! I'll try and hassle him for some pics on the weekend - there's bound to be some flares-tastic pics somewhere! He got it to replace a Series V or VI Morris Oxford (smart move) but after a few years sold it to buy a Marina 1300 (not such a smart move).
