I haven't really gone into the engine yet, but i also found those rods indeed, or they might be from a 2NZ-FE. They where 129,5mm long, together with wossner pistons for a 1993 Yamaha TTR250 it might work, but first i need to get my other car working again before i'm going to spend time and money on the screamer engine.

I've ditched the screamer engine i was talking about in the previous posts (of which the pictures stopped working i see). Just to much custom parts needed to make it work, i was trying to build it on a (semi) budget, so i didn't have to worry if i broke one due to overrevving it. So on with plan B it is Back in the 80s Toyota had a Starlet cup running in the Netherlands. A cheap way of getting in to racing. Over the last months i've been gathering most of the parts they used in the kit back then, I've also bought a 1.3 engine and a friend has a flowed head which will end up on this engine. Together with the TRD cam (300 degree intake and 280 degree exhaust), superlight flywheel and the 40mm DCOE Webers it will go allright in the light Starlet i hope. Not the screamer i wanted innitially, but good enough to make it a lot of fun

Finally had some mojo to drive to the barn and do some work today. Started to fit some of the parts, to see what works and what doesn't. Need to find out if the DCOE Webers will work without the chokemechanism, is it fouls the manifold. I can see some holes, but not sure if they are open or not. The mechanism pulls some 'jets' up to open up a hole, but not sure if there's more holes that are normally closed off by the cover. It looked like the fuelpump would still go in it's position, but sadly it doesn't, so i'll need an electric pump wired in, no biggy. Made a little plate to cover the hole. Also started to see if i could get the linkage to work. Not my best work, but i now know what i need to get the linkage to work. Next time more

Now you have my attention. I may shamelessly copy everything you are doing here! If you want to go one step further then me, there's a set of high compression TRD pistons for sale in Japan atm, which are a bit spendy for me,but apparently it'll do around 110-120 hp then...

This is shaping up to be a very cool little car, I love a tiny hatchback with a much more powerful engine than it should have

Now that would be excellent. I really shouldn't as the Maserati needs sorting first but......link to pistons please?

Off course I can't find them now. They've been on yahoo auctions for months and now they're gone.

Had a day off today, which i spent in the barn Fitted both linkages and made them about the same length. Will check when i've got it all running. Also i found blanking plates for the choke mechanism, so i bought those and fitted them. I also painted the valvecover, i'll hop into my local stickershop and see if they can replicate the stock 12Valve sticker for the valvecover. Also started on the wiring for the electric fuelpump, but i'll need to buy a relais for that and some other stuff. Will do that next time i'm in the barn and then it's time to swap in the engine

Today is a bank holiday overhere and tomorrow i'm off as well and luckily yesterday was my weekly day off work, so i've got 5 days off work this week. I could get used to that! This also means i can get stuff done in the barn. Yesterday consisted mostly of this: Only managed to fling 2 of these accross the barn, which is a result! I got a ported and polished head from a mate, so i had it checked and shaved a bit and then rebuild it with new valvesprings for the TRD cam, as it apparantly needs the uprated springs. After a full day of work, it looks about the same as it did last week, but now i've done a general refurb of the engine. New gaskets, waterpump, ignition stuff etc. etc. etc. Crankseals and T-belt today and then it should be ready to go in, only need 4 injector blanking plugs now, as this is an EFI head, which has the injecors in the head, so i've got 4 holes i don't need now. Guess that's a bit too much of a vacuumleak to get it running

After a couple of days of hard work I got it running yesterday. It runs like a pig atm as the timing is a bit out and there's no vacuum advance. Also the carbs are still setup for the 1.6 twincam they came off and not for the 1.3. All in all I'm very happy, even though its nothing faster than the 1.0 I took out Sounds great though!

That sounds glorious! How all old four cylinders should sound in my humble opinion.
When will you be able to have it set up properly? It should be a lot quicker then.

Slowly but steadily i'm going somewhere with this engine. Every little tweek makes it behave better and run quicker. Synchronized the carbs last week, should've done that way earlier, as it made a huge difference. Next step was 'airfilters' I've got no space, so opted for very short stacks and gauze filters. Apparently they filter to 0,09mm, i'm not convinced by that, as you can see straight through them, but it'll have to do This photo was made through one of the filters After the gathering i'm going to change the exhaust, as it's rattling a lot and restrictive and annoys me a lot, but no time to fix it yet. And then it's time to book some time at the dyno to tune the carbs, as the carbs are setup quite rich now. It's quite quick and powerfull when cold, but when the engine warms up, it's starting to bog a bit. I had the carbs on 1.6 engine before, so probably needs smaller fuel jets or bigger air correctors and smaller chokes might be wise as well.

So, after a bit of tuningwork, which mostly consisted of me putting in bigger air corrector jets, other emulsion tubes and some smaller chokes (28mm instead of 30) it's now running VERY good. Power throughout the whole revrange, lowdown ok-ish (as ok as it is gonna get with big cam and twin 40 Webers) and nice aggresive on the throttle. Kinda noisy too... Took it to my private test road to get some video, somehow the quality is not really great, but you'll get the idea I love this little car even more now

The sound is addictive... In real life it sounds even better, some of the notes don't make it through the camera
