There is an interesting, and for me troubling change in posting habit on here. It is something that Jack pointed out here : retrorides.proboards.com/thread/167154/nsra-show-billing-2014-photos#.U5GR4dSpqfY .. I'm sure people from the forum are going to shows, but it seems people no longer come back and share their photos. I've had a look around other forums and I've noticed that this isn't exclusive to us here (I often spend time after The Gathering checking forums for post show photos and opinions). Anyone got any idea why this is? Have we become lazy? Is everyone sharing on facebook? Or elsewhere? It seems the failing of photobucket etc. has resulted in less people sharing large photosets, so I guess it could be something to do with that? I also wonder if the 'Like' button doesn't encourage people to actually respond to posts and bump them back up. Jack's Billing post should certainly have more than 4 replies, even if it is just to say thanks for sharing (but even better would be, "here are some of my photos....").

Its a sign of the times unfortunatly. Facebook started it but now Instagram is so much more convenient, posting photos to one place from a mobile device.
Most forums I go on are slowly falling behind too, loosing the community atmosphere thanks to facebook

This is purely my situation, but I haven't been able to attend as many shows as I'd like and more importantly, the standard of my photography is poop. I mainly take photos to remind me of things I like with a point and shoot jobbie...
There are an increasing number of good photographers who post large numbers of photos, so adding a handful of poor quality images can be frankly embarrassing.

There is an interesting, and for me troubling change in posting habit on here. ETC.... I've been wondering about this, too, and have some conclusions I've been unwilling to try to share due to there being no possible way to spin them positively and thus stay with in RR doctrine. However, since you ask... I have to say, your final paragraph is exactly why I don't bother writing up as many shows as I used to (my bad on not seeing that Billing one, so that tends to confirm your earlier point about bumping threads too). My problem is that it takes quite a long time to actually write a decent thread, as opposed to just plop up a series of links... though even that is an investiture of time... and it's fairly disheartening, almost insulting if it's then treated with utter indifference. I'm not so fragile that I crave validation through internet "friendship" and compliments, but equally it's not as if I need the practice at writing stuff. If I'm going to spend a few hours writing a thread for it to receive 1000 views and two comments, both of which are people pointing out where I made a mistake, then I'd just as soon save my time and not bother. I still write up shows for other forums I'm on, but as they tend to be rotary-based I generally only do stuff I know people there will like, and then cut and paste it onto here. That means some shows get missed out altogether. Incidentally, I consistently get more responses to these threads on purely rotary-based forums with much, much smaller membership than here, so work that one out. Shame really

I posted a couple of show pics threads recently and they each got 3 or 4 replies, whereas in the past they seemed to get more. I honestly nearly didn't bother with the last one - it takes a while to resize pics and write a thread and I felt it wasn't worth the effort. However I struggled through Maybe the "like" button is to blame, but I also feel that the quality of posts in general is declining - lots of "show me" or "I bought this, what is it?" or "tell me how to make this cool" threads. The Oof thread exemplifies the issue - when was it last updated? Are there no Oof worthy cars anymore? Not having a go at anyone, just some observations. Fortunately there is still the occasional great thread, like the South Wothersee one for example,

My main computer is out of action at the moment, but expect a Classic Ford Show thread (and probably a Bromley Pageant thread too after this weekend) when it's all sorted.
I reckon a lot of threads aren't appearing here because people are taking their photos and marking them with a '*insert name or trendy phrase here* photography' watermark and putting them on their '*insert name or trendy phrase here* photography' Facebook page.
I certainly miss the days of personal (or found in unusual places) show 'reports' rather than one car threads.

I've stopped taking photos at shows.
After taking hundreds in the first few years, it's now very rare that I see anything new now that makes me WANT to take a photo.
Then when I get home, I've only taken 3 so I don't upload them anywhere!

This reminds me that I need to get a semi decent camera and get out to some shows..
I suspect a fair bit is down to stuff like instagram where you can take a load of photos on your phone as you go round a show and upload them on the fly, rather than having to sit down at the pc and upload pics to a sharing site before posting them on here.
Which is a shame, never used instagram myself but thats the feeling I get

Just to add to my thoughts; I've always found it odd that there isn't a dedicated show thread section on the forum; this means they tend to go into the general section and then get drowned by pages and pages of day-to-day stuff. Maybe giving them their own section would make them stand out more and attract people in when they have a bit of time to kill

The No Rhyme No Reason Thread depresses me so much I don't contribute to the Ooof thread... I recently committed to adding at least one thing a week to it though, and I know what I'm adding this week, so expect it to come back to life. I'll have a think on what has been posted so far and see if I can think of ways to improve the situation. Maybe I should go back to moderating threads on this forum more, but frankly I can live without angry email exchanges from idiots at 8am on a Saturday.

The Oof thread exemplifies the issue - when was it last updated? Are there no Oof worthy cars anymore? I thought The No Rhyme, No reason thread pretty much killed the *Oooofff* thread. It seems pointless to me to be posting the same cars (or rather some of them) in two threads. It's nice to know someone cares though! I'll try and put some good stuff in there again.

Another thing I've noticed is definitive first posts that leave you no option to interact, basically your only possible responses are a Like, a reply saying "nice".

Perhaps being a bit tougher on question threads being in the general board rather than the question section could help keep the good stuff near the top in the general board? though I do realise it must be hard to keep on top of everything in the general section Also I'm excepting this from being a question thread Edit: you beat me to it pretty much while replying to luckyseven haha

Then when I get home, I've only taken 3 so I don't upload them anywhere! This is the same for me. I really like going to shows, i wander round, look at cars, look for ideas for my own project cars, talk with friends and go home afterwards, only to find out i've made zero or very little photos.

Personally, I'll always want RR to be full of multi-car threads (either with a theme/style/trend, car-related travel or show reports/finds) rather than single car threads (unless it's REALLY special and there's plenty of info and/or pics) and mundane question threads. We closed the *ooff* thread to non-admin posters to discourage the 'find one picture, post it and don't investigate further' mentality but the popular NRNR thread sprung up in it's place and it was easy to assume that's what people wanted. Every now and then I try and start a 'proper' RR thread, but people don't seem to take the bait. :-)

Likewise, I'm always trying to share cool stuff I find and post some history to go with it, but not much in the way of interest in general. I think the major forum contributors from recent past have found work/money/free time gets in the way of internetting beyond Facebook and IG these days, and we don't have many to step up to the plate to fill their shoes.
In terms of shows, I haven't been this year to one, and the classic race events I've posted in the past haven't gotten much love so I've not posted any lately. I'll make one from an event at Snetterton last month and see how it does.

The reason I haven't is due to facebook I'm afraid. (Instagram isn't quite as dominating because they don't have an album feature but i'm sure they'll introduce one)
I post my show photos on my car (freshandminty) page for the pure convenience factor but it's difficult to then embed individual photos into a forum post.
Sure I could post a link to the album but I don't really think that's in the spirit of the site but ultimately laziness stops me from getting around to embedding them in a post here too.
As you say it is not just an issue with RR - after a show I tend to google for <name of show> photos to find photos of shows in forums but now they pretty much return a blank.
One potential thing to think about for the site (but again might be against the spirit of RR) would be to introduce an Instagram feed onto a page so if someone tags #RetroRides then the photos will appear on that page?

the classic race events I've posted in the past haven't gotten much love so I've not posted any lately This seems to be the crux of the problem, people not getting feedback on quality posts. So remember folks if someone posts up something quality please take a few seconds to reply to say thanks, or take a few more seconds to contribute a bit more info/feedback.

Did post some picture of a show l went to but photobucket was so slow and crashed my internet explorer l probably won't bother again and with few replies it soon slipped off page one into thread oblivion.....
Perhaps we should have a 'where did you go this weekend?' thread or section? so they don't get lost in the general clutter...
