I'll see if it sticks. Don't fancy telling ppl Norman takes me to work and back though. Sounds like a pervy uncle.
Although if I did have a pervy uncle he'd probably drive a Vectra.

When the PT's came out there was a feature in custom car of a firm making body kits and fibreglass pods/van conversions which just dropped on, no need to weld the doors. On another PT note, hove you seen the PT Bruiser.

Yes I saw the fiberglass kits that bond to the side of the PT but I didn't really like that approach - adding weight and hassle with the threat of fiberglass separating from the metal - I figured this approach would be "simpler" in the end. I just googled PT Bruiser - I've seen a pic of that before - but WOW what a monster. did you use something in the door gap or just bridge it with weld? It's a combination of both in certain places

Really like this and congrats on having the balls to do something which many discuss, but never actually do. Don't know if you saw the thread running on here about 12 months back about PT's - basically a discuss on whether they're 'cool or not'. Personally, I'll reserve judgement until you've finished yours, but I get the feeling I'm going to like it! Here's the old thread: link

That pick up is cool. Fact that it's not really practical makes it more of a real project of "because I wanted to". The van version is a simple yet very good idea. Will read with interest. Off to eBay to check out prices. Lol.

Eventually got round to scanning my photos of the chopped one. Taken about 9-10 years ago. The jury's out on some of the details (scoop, wheelie bars) but the basic body styling is sound.

One thing that intrigued me when i looked into a van conversion was how the land lies in terms of the MOT saying that rear doors need to have a handle to open (to stop people smoothing doors)
Is it okay to remove doors completely or does it have to be registered on the V5 as a van?
Or does the lack of door render the lack of opening method rule redundant?

Ive always found them intriguing. Personally I like them and believe there is a lot of scope to modify them. I would love to build a convertible baja version. Keep on going and, unless its going to be a demo vehicle for your new business, who gives a monkeys what others think. The only person it has to impress is you!!!!!...........and maybe the mrs depending on how understanding she is.

My van was originally a 5 door car and I had to get it checked by VOSA so it is now officially a van, I also have smoothed the front door so O have no handles what so ever and it has just passed the MOT like that Liking this project

Didn't someone on here do a Passat panelvan conversion? Perhaps they could advise on the legal side of things?

Thanks guys - been head down here but some progress has been made! Are you chopping the roof? No. That would be a mod too far this time! The doors are officially closed...tack welded in place. One door jam done: Hopefully get a lot more done in the next couple of days!
