Hi All,
My name is Sabi and I'm from Bulgaria. For those who don't know, this is where the plumbers and construction workers in UK come from
I've found this forum not long ago and since then I'm spending most of my time standing in my cubicle at work reading the fantastic treads on here.
Finally gained enough courage to post one of my cars, even if I'm not quite sure it's retro enough... please don't be harsh if it's not
I've had many Lancias during the years but this one is definitely a keeper and the one I'll be passing to my son.
So about the car - It is a 1995 Lancia Dedra SW Integrale 2000 16V. I was searching for one of those since I've always been a huge fan of the station wagons ( or is it estates more correct ) and had an evil plan in my mind - TURBO FTW!!!
As bought
With one of my other Lancias 1,9 TDS - still in service in my old mans hands
And the reason I wanted so badly one of those
After fixing the minor issues it had I used it in NA state as a daily driver for almost a year collecting bits for the turbo conversion.
Lancia Kappa intake manifold and fuel rail
The original engine had 114000 km ( 70836 miles) on the clock but
considering the age and the state of the car they were at least twice as
much. And after butchering a rather nice Fiat coupe 16VT for its motor all the other necessary parts like pistons, head, exhaust manifold, ECU etc. etc. I've started building the motor.
Since it is a 4x4 the front suspension, the gearbox and the central diff needed to come off in order to extract the engine.
The crank was inspected and found OK, so a set of standard main and conrod bearings were fitted. I used the crankshaft and the rods from the original engine and fitted the turbo pistons. I’ve swapped the cables for the engine management with the turbo ones and installed the ignition power modules. Installed the left engine mount from the Coupe which is also an oil thermostat
Did some dodgy headwork following advices from workshop manuals and pics from the interwebz. It was my first attempt in this area so I’m not quite sure about the results but at least I didn't broke anything The pictures are from the early stages when I still had the will to do them.
Intake
Exhaust
The valve seats were re-cut for the standard valves. Standard turbo cams were fitted. The exhaust manifold and the turbo (GarrettT3) are the OE. In order to fit the Kappa manifold I had to cut the mounting supports for the original manifold on the head, because they get in the way of the injectors. Additionally had to plug some holes, reposition the intake air temperature sensor, make longer throttle cable and reposition the stuff that were originally behind the manifold since there weren’t any space left anymore.
Nearly finished
Since I'm not very good with wires I obviously had some issues trying to start the engine but after the help of some electrical magicians it bursted into life. I wanted a front mount intercooler and still wanted the car to be kind of stealthy. The only way to achieve both was to cut the front beam. Don’t mind the white cable supporting the air filter, it’s only temporarily I swear
After some minor modifications in order to fit the cooler the bumper was fitted.
Also changed the fuel pump with the turbo one from the Coupe but I plan to change it with bigger one because the custom chip I’m using goes up to 1,5 bar (21,7 psi) of boost.
Then I started having fun with it and had many Audi, BMW and Mercedes V8 owners wondering how can a shitbox estate be faster than their big buck mega fast cars
Considering this all was done about 5 years ago the tings have changed a bit and if someone is interested I'll post more details on how the car is evolving.
Thanks for bothering reading this curse word and sorry for my mistakes - not so sure about my English skillz
