Flippin eck! Your not-hanging-aboutness is inspirational. I will get my Vitesse's engine rebuilt on my shore break this time.
Going back a few pages, where did you get the hub adapters for the jag brakes?

Going back a few pages, where did you get the hub adapters for the jag brakes? It's a Rover V8, how hard could it be? I do make an effort as I'm going to poke, prod and free-off stuff, long term plans and all that The hub adapters were bought off ebay as a complete kit of discs, hubs and calipers. They have to be one of the best mods I've done on the car, I now have confidence in the brakes as fast as I dare drive

Awesome project and great choice on the Audi V8. I can see that you are well in control but wanted to show you this link - www.motorgeek.com/viewtopic.php?t=9648If you are already aware of it then sorry, but if not, its got some great ideas for relocating engine parts to make them fit.

I see in next months PPC they're featuring a SD1 with a Lexus V8.
That Esprit is pretty incredible as well.

That's a brilliant read, it was the one that sealed the deal for me . Unfortunately I can't use the Audi manual transmission as it turns backwards from the output shaft, but it does at least have a readily available manual option which can be a project killer for this type of conversion I see in next months PPC they're featuring a SD1 with a Lexus V8. That Esprit is pretty incredible as well. Would that be the green one that was on ebay a few months back? What put me off the Lexus V8 was buying a complete ready to go unit and a manual conversion, too far outside my budget. The Audi needs more custom fabrication but that's fine for me to do

Only a small picture it's green AGF988W. Yep, that'll be the one from Ebay link. I've got the photos saved for future reference Been a busy day today, removed the original axle and slid the replacement axle in underneath. I still need to fix a leaking slave cylinder and reconnect the handbrake linkage before I can go out on a test drive to see how good the axle is I've also just found that I can buy a pair of gears ( this and this) to replace the 5th gear set in the R380 gearbox to get a taller ratio. Standard SD1 LT77 5th is an overdrive 0.77, the LDV R380 is 0.83, but I believe Land Rover V8 R380 gearboxes had a 0.73 overdrive 5th ratio which is interchangeable with the other R380 gearboxes. Doing the rough sums in an online gear ratio calculator, this change with the 2.84 ratio back axle should give a theoretical cruising rpm at 70mph of 2000rpm! Standard LT77 is about 2250rpm. The V8 is plenty torquey enough to pull that happily and as I do a lot of motorway miles it's well worth the effort to swap the gears over

For the planned gearbox ratio change I've picked up a spare R380 from an LDV Pilot van, now in the pile of spares ready and waiting I've even found the old air filter box I had on my Land Rover and dropped that into place, just need some 3" flexible hose for a cold air intake Also done a little on the cosmetics recently, making a change from all the oily stuff! The plan with the alloys was to only have black centres and a polished lip. Impatience meant that they were just blacked all over, but I've made a start un-blacking the outer rim of the wheels, looks so so much better too Fiddling about with the Megasquirt tuning over the past few weeks I've found that some of the cylinders are running richer than others. Regular checking of the plugs and tweaking of the fuel map are beginning to give good results, but it still doesn't feel quite right yet. I've been suspicious of some of the injectors being at fault for a while, either over or under fueling? Simple answer was pull them out and put my spare set in I've taken a few photos of the spark plugs for reference as I've been working on the Megasquirt fuel map. There is a consistent trend of 2 and 6 being clean, 1 and 5 sooty, 3,4 and 7 inbetween with 8 oily! I can put up with the oily cylinder, but not the variation of the other 7 After a few days driving I should be able to get an idea of whether the injector swap has worked or not...

Well that's been an interesting read. I've had a fancy for an SD1 as a long distance cruiser for a while, although my mind had drifted more toward a modern diesel and autobox.
The Audi V8 looks an interesting prospect though.

The Audi V8 looks an interesting prospect though. I'm undecided with the Audi V8 right now. Since messing around with the injectors then doing the rolling road day that Chasr organised and finding I had about 170bhp from the little 3.5 with a very rough fuel map (lambda sensor had failed a month before whilst road-tuning), I'm more tempted to stick with the RV8 and get a spare set of heads skimmed to up the CR to something more suitable like 10.5:1 and shooting for more power/efficiency. Plans are still there to fit a Salisbury 4HA axle with LSD and disc brakes (still on the lookout for a suitably wide 4HA axle case) and carry on driving. With it being winter-time and the route to work literally an off-road course of broken concrete and a flood the SD1 has done very few mile the last few months.

I was interested to read about your starter experience, I have a tr7v8 with a sd1 engine and starter which turns over quite slowly and a range rover efi which whizzes over I was worried it was lacking compression!

The little Marelli starters are great, something I'd do on any RV8 as well as ditching the dizzy for coilpacks

I was wondering if this bruiser was still around. Still rebuilding mine at the minute.

I was wondering if this bruiser was still around. Still rebuilding mine at the minute. Yep still about, not really done much with it recently apart from waking the neighbours up when I start it up Still gathering spares as and when I've got the money and I think/see something I want, now got a pair of front inner wings to go in the pile with the new rear quarters and sills, and planning on a set of door skins too Also got a replacement gearset for the R380 to put a 0.73 ratio 5th gear in, which would bring the cruise rpm down to about 2000rpm at 70mph I've been thinking about squeezing some more out of the little 3500, it's running well since I chucked an old spare cam in. I've got an idea to skim a pair of spare heads to bring the compression up (can't be bothered with the time/effort/cost of pistons) and just port match the heads and manifold to suit. It's not an immediate plan as I have a P6 and Land Rover to put back on the road first.....
