For the welds I find the best approach is :
1. make sure everything is clean 2. get the 2 panels to fit closely together. 3. tack it all together, starting about 4"appart then slowly tacking more and more until you are down to about 10mm between the welds. 4. then fill in the gaps allowing it to cool between welds if you are worried about distortion.

I was quite liking your idea of fibreglass corners. It's quite normal on caravans to have a fibreglass or ABS nose cone and metal sides. Easier to replace if they get damaged, and once you have the mould you can easily make more! Looking good whatever you end up doing though, keep it up!

Yeah, I know what you mean about the fiberglass....that is what I was thinking...perhaps once the metal panels are on there I can cover with aluminum foil and make some molds....just in case.... JP

got some body work done to match the real deal and bombed on some primer: Since I am working on using a linear actuator (screw type lifting mechanism) on the real one, I tried to find a miniature one for the model .No luck...not that I could afford anyway...so I found these guys making their own for the robotics and RC industry out of chap stick tubes and adapted the idea for my little trailer here. I didnt go so far as to hook up a motor and potentiometer to limit travel and such like they did, but I left the screw knob attached, shortened the tube and added the "piston" by making up some aluminum tubing glued in place...... Here it is in the "down" position: The knob: and in the "up" position: Its getting there...I have the tonneau cover made from black styrene sheet....A few rounds with sanding and priming and I should be ready for paint in a few days. thanks for looking! If I can ever stop working on our daily drivers "emergency repairs" I will start back in on the trailer! The corners are calling to me...."finish the welding, finish the welding!"

Awesome thread, can the rear wheels match the car or different fitment? Recently made a scale model to match my dads driving school car... Didnt have time to paint the roof and can't find matching alloys anywhere!

Ha!...you nailed it!....great job....
I would say, let the minor details go....you definitely captured the flavor (and then some) of the real thing...
For my trailer, I would have to resin cast matching wheels from the wagon...which is possible...but time consuming. you may find suitable wheels in the RC world or styrene model world......
MRC makes several offerings (if they are still around)

Got a bit more done on the front corner....actually, I'm almost done with this one!....I wanted to do the top piece from 1 sheet of metal...so I just took my time and massaged it to fit...then pie cut the overlaps. Outside Inside and just sitting in place on the trailer I should be able to get that welded in this week and then continue to adjust the door gap....its pretty close.... thanks for looking JP

Finished the basic shape of the first corner....I have more final shaping to do on it, but its basically there. I added weld to continue the body line around the corner and I think it came out pretty good and the top of the corner I still need to adjust the door gap as it nudges the metal a bit in a couple of spots as it opens. So Ill finish up the details and its on to the other side. I think I can get this done in one piece with a few pie cuts designed in, or two pieces... thanks for looking JP

Glad you are back on this JP. It's amazing how much work goes into some little parts. Aint that the truth, Grizz! I shaped it more yesterday afternoon and wouldnt you know it?...another solid hour on it and I was only able to adjust the door gap a bit, bend over the bottom flange all the way around, and further shape the top area arch...wait, I guess thats pretty good..... amazingly, I still have a ways to go....I'm going to add more weld to the profile area and continue to shape it so it fits better and has no contact with the door's edge as it opens...I now wish I had saved the old front door from the donor car, it had the perfect shape!.....
