I'm sure a few of you have had the misfortune of having to fill out accident reports and draw sketches of the accident. Well last year I was hit/I hit (bit of both really) someone pulling out on me at a roundabout. With it being a company car I was sure they would try and pass the blame onto me somehow, so adament I was going to make it clear whos fault it was I may have gone a bit too far on the accident 'sketch' ... The sketch was drawn in photoshop, the 2cv was a hastily done 3d model in Maya! I remember a woman from Footman James telling me it was the most elaborate accident sketch they had ever recieved along with no less than 20 photos of the area the accident occured including an areal photograph from google earth lol Suffice to say the other insurer Norwich Union paid me out almost immediately ;D

he hee excellent, good work! I had someone try to pass the blame, and I did a similar thing. I was sent his statement which had photo's on it, so I drew diagrams all over the photographs and rubbished his account of what happened. I heard nothing back! Just goes to show a bit of effort will help on these things

Good stuff. Great to see that if you put a little effort in you can crush the opposition and get lots of ££££s

I had a very similar thing when someone drove into my Wife's car...we did a similar diagram, but also took video footage of the junction with a commentary of the accident. They paid out immediately too! ps. Why didn't you just turn left?

This happens to me all the time - people ALWAYS assume you're NOT going around the roundabout entirely and just drive onto it, vaguely hoping you won't suddenly appear, even if you're indicating and completely visible. Happens to me all the time in town, so irritating, they start crawling out and it's like "You divs, look right before you pull out ffs".....Standards of driving are so poor these days. Arg! But excellent work there, glad to hear you got it sorted out as well

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

ps. Why didn't you just turn left? Because I may have been hooning the nuts off it round that roundabout

Great sketch. The problem with insurance is that blame doesn't matter. If you claim you claim. The insurance companies work out how much each one contributes. But a claim loses you your no claim bonus even if it's not your fault.
"It's a no claim bonus not a no blame bonus" etc etc.
The only time I received a payout from another party after an accident was when I hit a drunk driver. I claimed from her insurance, not my insurance.

But a claim loses you your no claim bonus even if it's not your fault. "It's a no claim bonus not a no blame bonus" etc etc. When the accident is not your fault, isn't your stated scenario only the case when the other party isn't insured / doesn't stop etc, and so your own insurers end up paying out as there's no one / other insurance company for them to claim off. If you claim through your own insurers & get a full payout from the other party, then the ncb is unaffected. Also, if you claim direct off the other party's insurers, you still have to declare the incident to your own insurers at renewal time.

Claim off their insurance, don't tell your insurance at all. Sorted.

don't tell your insurance at all. Sorted. Even if that incident wasn't your fault, if they find out (99.9% of the time this happens at the time of a later claim), then you could quite easily find yourself uninsured, as you failed to declare it to them. Don't give them such an easy excuse not to pay out!

That diagram looks like the first Grand Theft Auto game! I think we as a country should actually consider withdrawing roundabouts completely from the road system. They're fantastic if everyone knows what they're doing and indicates properly, but unfortunately there's too many people who are just too thick to use them correctly. Roundabouts are why I swapped my horn for a louder one.

Reminds me of the hassle I had with my last claim (a long while ago thankfully). Just stopped in a queue at a roundabout. Unfortunately the following Fiat Tipo and trailer didn't, punting my poor Metro into the next two cars. The poor sod who stopped behind this mess was then run into as well! Not only did the police INSIST it MUST be my fault 'cos I was the youngest there but when it was finally paid out (a year later) the guy at the backs isurance paid for the lot, despite the fact that this had been categorized as a seperate accident !
